No no I'm not saying he didn't' deserve. I was just commenting on why its believed that fighting is ok but spearing isn't. I don't really have an opinnion on it otherwise.

I'm referring to after the defenseless boarding, and why it's ok to fight someone but it's not ok to spear/slash/sucker punch them. Photoshop? Please. Real pros use MS Paint.

I think the difference stems from in a fight you're squaring up on a level playing field to defend yourself and hurt your opponent. You're also risking your own well being to do so. Spearing someone in the gut doesn't risk directly risk your well being. So it can be perceived as a cowardly move.

I seriously don't understand how a team can look better at even strength as opposed to on a power play.

No but it's more accurate since it would eliminate bias if we factor in every fan base.

No it's that Quick is hands down a much better goalie. You wouldn't find a single person outside of Detroit who would think Howard is better than Quick.

Quick is better than Howard. A lot better. It's not even close.

That's awesome. I love the emotion. And I think it's apparent we could obviously use a little heart on this team right now.

I see your point. That's why I never really consider wins in any sport an individual category be it pitchers or goalies.

So what we should just never compare anyone ever because there are many different factors and variables that go into every outcome? Then whats the point of following the sport?

I agree with this. I don't know how many years are left on Howard's contract but isn't he going to be asking for a pay raise when the time comes? I think there will be a problem then, but for right now we need to focus on repairing our shattered defense.

Better yet, how about we just not give out match penalties for non blatant offenses (like sucker punch to the face) until AFTER the league has had a chance to review them. You know like the NFL NBA and MLB do.

This is a result of the lockout. Not "softness". Injuries are up all over the league because players rushed back and didn't have time to properly prepare their bodies. Playing is Europe is different and still won't have you ready for the harder hitting NHL.

Perhaps this is the Red Wing's take on "parity"?

I didn't see any head contact in there. Looked completely shoulder to shoulder. Although it did appear to me that he left his feet.

I've always thought Howard was an average goalie and it's become apparent now that we don't have a defense. Here's the difference though. If Howard wants to truly be a next level goalie he needs to make those saves when the defense leaves him out to try. Howard doesn't do that. He has a couple flashy saves that make him look like a beast and then he lets in some softies. However that said, Howard isn't as high on the list of problems as some of the other things such as lack of defense, lack of offense, complete absence of a power play, and a lack luster PK. Those are more pressing needs.

We don't have enough defense either. We really don't have much of anything right now. Our bottom two lines are non existent our defense is in shambles. This is going to be a long season ironically.

Tell that to Boise State and their blue uniforms. Maybe we need to tint our ice red so we can blend in.
