That is a sexy chart my man!!!

Was he forced to play in that system or did he choose to go there? Was Ana an all out offensive force before he got there? NO he chased the years of a deal (don't get confused with $$$, he wanted the extra year that Ken pulled), he wanted security, I am not saying he shouldn't have, but when he got there he knew the situation, he knew what he was getting himself into. And how different was the trap from our beloved left wing lock, I say that was damn close to being a trapping system, Bowman preached D first, the difference is that at that time he also let his players have offensive freedom where as Babs at the time didn't. But I hear a lot of excuses for why Feds didn't produce in Ana, when the bottom line is, he didn't produce and hasn't since he left Detroit, at least at the level he did in Detroit. As much as the trap hurt his stats (in your opinion) do you think playing on a team full of all stars and on a line where everyone was dangerous and had to be watched might have helped him?
-
Umm dude, he was a part of the Russian 5, I am sorry the only people on the wings that crack that line due to talent right now are Lids and Z. EDIT: That is assuming Dats is in for Feds. And even then I may still keep Fetisov in, the only linemate from that team that would be a sure fire replacable part is Kozlov. Then Feds went on to play on a line with Shanny and Yzerman, you mean to tell me that Homer is better than one of those two, that is rich my friend!!! I think your font is starting to go to your head! Edit: Plus to your last part about the 3 players, two of the three have fallen off of the shelf, Shanny and Recchi have lost a lot of their game in the last couple of years, which is a testament to what I said about Feds never being a soft Euro. However why did you not choose to compare him to Jagr, stylistically and amount of time in the league it is a fair comparison, oh but that is right Jagr blows Feds stats away. But I am sure as with everything else you had a reason for the comparisons you made, usually because when you are selective like that it proves your point! EDIT: you in general not you EVA! And to the overpaid part, for 05-06 and 06-07 Feds produced at a clip just about the same as everyone's favorite 1.2m player Sammy! So yeah 4 mil is an overpayment IF it is not this summer in which everyone was overpaid, except for about 6 players.

Even the series against LA, I know that the last goal was not his fault on his own, I am not saying the specific play. But that series was his chance to step up when Steve and Shanny were injured, hmmm that wasn't so successful. I am not saying he didn't have huge games or even huge series, but he never won a Conn Smythe, sure he won a Hart, and his Selke's he earned, he played D at a very high end, when Scotty made him, same with Stevie. To say Feds didn't benefit from Bowman is denying what Bowman is, and that first paragraph sounds like a bunch of excuses. And it also shows that he was never going to put a team on his back and carry them, if the team looked bad he wasn't going to play his hardest. So to him regular season games meant a lot less than playoffs, well the problem there Sergei is that if you don't play hard in the regular season, and you don't have a team of all world talent around you, you don't make the playoffs. Well unless you get traded at the deadline to a team already in the playoffs! He set that situation up, look at the teams he was looking to go to, Carolina, Anaheim, Columbus, he chose those teams. It wasn't like he signed and then Ana switched the coach on him. HE wanted to go some where he could be the #1, and regardless of the circumstances he was not nearly as good away from Detroit as he was in Detroit! When was Sergei successful and didn't have all stars all around him?

We disagree but for my money I take Shanny and Igor over Feds. Shanny the numbers alone tell me all I need to know, Igor, come on the guy was a major part of the best line to ever play hockey. His playmaking ability even at an advanced age was IMO better than what Feds showed on a regular basis. Feds was a player with great potential and on some nights he played up to full potential and other nights he didn't to me that is a detriment I don't want on my team. As a Red Sox fan I compare J.D Drew to Feds, the guy is a 5 tool player, when he wants to be. The difference is that JD Drew is made of the softest glass known to man kind and Feds was never a "Soft Euro"!

You know what not worth it!

Not that I had a lot of vested interest in this award, label whatever it is, but they nominated Gainsville, Gainsville, you mean that town in Florida that has the University of Florida and NOTHING ELSE!!!!!

Eva, You refuse to give Dats (see the Selke thread) credit it is like he kicked your dog or stole your wife! Feds had two phenomenal years, and a bunch of very very good years, as of right now Dats has played very consistently at a very very good level. Feds only has 2 years that are way better than any year Datsyuk has put up. However the difference lies in consistency, Dats has played about a third of the NHL games Feds has and if his pace keeps up his numbers will average out to about the same amount of points as Feds, that is assuming his career tails off at the end like Feds' (and most athletes) did. 1196 472 674 1146 445 139 286 425 And for the record what in the hell does being the best on your team have to do with work ethic, I say raw talent wise sure he had the most talent, but Yzerman, Shanny, and The Professor were better hockey players. The guy took nights off, even Doug Brown said it in that quote, yet somehow your internet post (from a guy who never played with him) is going to sway my opinion of him, when his ex-teammate came out and said it, in what seemed to be a statement that was trying to compliment the guy. Bowman worked so many head games with that guy to get him to play, if it weren't for Bowman Feds probably doesn't have the numbers he does. Like in ANA and CLS when he is not interested his numbers show it. Edit: Wrong initials

Wings Petitioning to Have Meech's Name on the Cup
Opie replied to CanadianSwede19's topic in General
Yeah I don't know about you but I sure did hate that Surplus budget and lowest unemployment rate in years!!! -
What did Downey enforce in the reg season, nothing he stood up for his teammates when they got hit hard, which is what makes me think he is the perfect fighter for this team. Downey is smart enough not to walk out to center ice for an opening face off and drop the mitts just to fight. He played the role very well last year and in the 50+ games he got into, other than the fact the Bench got a little shorter, he wasn't a detriment to this team, he stayed out of the box and stood up for his players. However I have a hard time calling Downey an enforcer, a very good fighter, but he is not a Laraque of 3-4 years ago.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT THE F$#k Was that !!!!

Going to Beantown again, Nov 29th baby!!! Just realized that will be the day before my b-day, sat night in beantown after the wings game!! oh heavens that spells trouble!!!!
-
This one I will agree 100% on, Tyree's catch over an old and shadow of his former self Harrison (stated as a pats fan) was impressive, but there were a lot more impressive things that happened over the past year! Edit: if his catch had been like the one from 2 NCAA football seasons ago where that kid from Alabama caught the ball with the defender's helmet between his helmet and the ball and pressed the ball against the defenders helmet the two players rolled over and he still managed to catch it and score a touchdown, that was some impressive s***!
-
Eva, I wasn't criticizing his skill level, I was criticizing his work ethic, I though that was pretty obvious!

These posts have made me realize that there is not satisfying a good chuck of Wings fans!!! You want an enforcer because he will step up and hit some one when they do something deemed inappropriate or against the code. Yet when Datsyuk does it, after Roberts takes a dirty shot at Franzen's head, well that isn't good enough because of A, B, and C. Listen I would love Milan Lucic but until the boneheaded Bruins let him go there aren't many others that can throw down like he can and score like he can. Now you want a career ending hitter, why, isn't that why you want an enforcer to stop those things and now you want a guy on your team who is out there looking to end careers, no thanks. Give me Kronner and his lack of toughness every day of the week!! I ask of you EZBAKE what on earth did having Downey prevent, the hit on lids, Mclaren going after Z, no not at all he was in the line up for both games if I am not mistaken. A fighter is out there for retribution and retribution only, and to answer the question why do all other teams carry enforcers if they are not pivotal. Teams carry fighters because other teams do, and hockey is a violent sport, men get riled up and get pretty amped up, fists are bound to get thrown, in the old days every player protected themselves, that is not the case anymore because sports have become a business and if you have a guy who can pot 40-50 goals do you really want him throwing fists, no. I am sure Holland and Babcock had their hearts in their throats when Dats punched Roberts they don't want him breaking his hands. (Lets all be honest by no means did Dats destroy or even remotely hurt Roberts) However because Dats doesn't throw down at center ice at the opening face off for no reason at all doesn't make him soft or a *****. EDIT, What in the f*** does your wealthy background have to do with s***. That comment is like people who talk about how big their dick is all the time, the more you have to talk about it the less likely it is true! Let set something straight for the record, when your post is laden with misspellings it makes you look less intelligent, especially if you're doing it while insulting their intelligence! It is just a fact, basic grammar and spelling are 5th grade level skills, trust me I used to teach 5th grade, so if you are constantly screwing up homophones (3rd grade skill) your posts look like you don't have that age range skill set. You may or may not like it, but it is true!

I am not saying don't bash ESPN, What I said was you showed a lack of overall general sports knowledge, in your posts you had relatively no clue about two completely different sports including two of the 4 teams involved in the award you are bashing them for handing out. IF you are going to go onto a public forum and state an opinion it is a pretty safe bet your opinion will get challenged, if you then show a complete lack of knowledge when it comes to the subject you are debating you are going to come out on the losing end. If you argument is that the Red Wings were the best team, how can that be when your opinion is void of all of the details, you don't even know which team is the behemoth and which team is the cinderella. IF ESPN or the media really had a hard on for the Cinderella like you said the Giants would have won the award for beating the PATRIOTS, who were on the precipice of going 19-0, were being included in the discussion of greatest teams of all times. They wouldn't have given to Boston who from wire to wire was the best team in the NBA. I was not commenting on you, I didn't call you stupid, I simply pointed out you were in a debate in which you only knew about half of the information, that is assuming you even know who the 4th team nominated was and what they did to get there. That would be like a person who only listens to country music complaining that the Band of the year went to a different Genre but they don't know anything about the other contestants, they are just mad their music didn't win. And you APPEAR to be just upset your team didn't win the award. And yes your posts make it appear that you know very little about the major sports, I am sorry if you are a cricket expert and I offended you, the conversation was about an award show based on the major sports, which you were showing a general lack of knowledge about, if you had started bringing up Jai Lai teams that should have won I wouldn't have insinuated you had a LACK of knowledge for all sports.
-
Not that I am a Lions fan, BUT..... If you include one year that Barry Sanders was on the team in your range he should automatically be #1. Because he was the best back in the league when he was playing, had he played 2 more seasons he was easily going to be the best back the game had ever seen!!!!!!
-
This thread and that last post show your overall sports knowledge, before you go bashing a sports network about what award it gives out you should know something about more than just hockey! Edit: Crappy spelling!
-
The C's were more dominant throughout the season than the wings, because the had a crappy season last year the turn around makes the story better. Plus the C's were not a Cinderella story, as soon as they got Garnett and Allen they were a top pick before the season started. So because you don't like or watch basketball that doesn't mean the award is less valid, and for the last time: THE AWARD IS VOTED ON BY FANS, ESPN GAVE NO ONE THE AWARD!!!
-
You missed the point, last season they went 28-56, this season they won 60+ games and the championship. Last year the wings were two wins away from the SCF, this year they won the championship. His point was that the C's were a horrible team turned into a very very good team, within one offseason. They didn't go 28-56 this year and win the championship. Like the Wings, the C's were the best team in the league start to finish this season, had the best D, and one of the best O's in the league. The two teams have a lot of parallels, except for the previous seasons success.
-
BUT, but,... but then you lose the cute alliteration!!!!
-
I am sorry was this quote supposed to be in defense of feds, because it lowered my opinion, the players even admitted he played when he wanted. That quote just made me think Doug Brown thinks Feds is Randy "I play when I want" Moss, that wasn't extremely complimentary in my opinion! As a teammate I would be pissed to see him go balls to the walls one night give it all he has and then the next three games he is not working as hard, I would be pissed and say "HEY Assface, if you can play that hard last game why not tonight, just because it is not Peter Forsberg across the ice doesn't mean you get the night off!!"
-
I never treated Downey like he wasn't a part of the team, in fact I said this season he would be the perfect fighter for this team a part time player, what you stated (last offseason) was he should be a full time player, and even during the year there were threads where people (yourself included) were asking why he wasn't playing instead of Sammy, Hudler, Flip at times. Mac and Downey are at best Part time fighters, Mac had one sort of fight, and Downey had none in the post season. And as far as regular season goes, wasn't it you a couple of posts ago complaining that you didn't want the team to finish last in fights every year, but now, Downey being on the ice for 5 minutes a game 56 games a year is enough. Make up my mind, stop flip flopping. Are you entertained by enforcers, do you think they are necessary to win (last year that was your stance)? What exactly is it you want from an enforcer on this team or from this team in regards to an enforcer. Notice the places I choose to use the words fighters and enforcers, the Red Wings had 0 count them 0 enforcers last year, they had 2 guys who would fight in Mac and Downey.
-
Needless insults you were the one that started calling people *******, if you want to group all of the supposed anti fighting fans together as ******* expect some one to call you out! The reason people tell you to go root for another team is you bashed Holland, you trash the style of play because there isn't a big NA forward punching people in the face every other shift. Then when the team wins the cup do you say, man last off season or at the deadline I was wrong. NO you move and post something else. We went through this s*** all last off season, and what happened, a team you thought wasn't gritty enough, not tough enough, too Euro, too soft won the cup. You come on here months after telling all of us we have been brain washed into wanting softer or pussier hockey. Last preseason you had the same ******* and moans, or gripes. You said it would cost the team if they didn't have an enforcer, how did that work out. You come one here and preach your opinion of what a team should have and should be, the moment someone disagrees with you, they want a soft team or are pussified, yet you want people to not call you out. Pot meet Kettle!!!

I wonder if this was set in motion before the Nolan firing because if I am the Gm or owner of that young team I would rather have Nolan than Murray.
