Yeah that is closer to Nyquist and Tatar than Pulkkenin, but maybe that is just me!. The Ducks got rid of a malcontent (from all reports) and got two really good prospects, really good prospects!

signed Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

Weiss averages 74 games a season, and that is also after only playing 17 last year. He is a high 50 to low 60 point per season player. Flip just got more money than Weiss, Weiss has a better track record and stats. Weiss played in a horrible Florida organization with very little help. Hockey may be the third sport in Det, but it is still a top tier hockey market, if Det is a second tier market than there are maybe 2 top tier market teams. Boston is a fair weather fan market, where were all the Pitt fans 10 years ago, same with CHI. Other than Mon what hockey market is more under a microscope than Det? Van? nope, Tor? Nope. Ott? nope. Win? Nope. If Alfie replace Cleary, upgrade. If Alfie replaces Abby who replaces Cleary, Upgrade! Weiss replaces Flip, Upgrade! I am not assuming anyone makes the decisions I am asking how it is that people are able to say Nill is responsible for the good that came to Det and Holland is responsible for the bad. And how it is that Nill can be a savior when he has made limited trades. Did signing Dan Ellis make him the GM of the year? THIS! Although I am looking forward to a Nyquist Andersson Tatar Line up! -
Not hard to forget about, it was 08-09!

That just seems like a weird combination of wishes, get tougher or sign a somewhat soft Euro. -
I agree with Goalie Man Pat, Weiss moves a lot better than Vinny does. And I think Brunner himself was just interested in finding out what he is worth, his agent on the other hand I think is interested in getting him the most for his client (there is my no crap post for the day). I think Brunner put himself in a position the Wings didn't want to be in.
-
Right because half of the top 6 isn't going to be Red WIng's draft picks? Weiss is not old (I apologize if you meant former not old as in age).
-
I love how everyone who is all over Brunner apparently forgot about Brunnstrum. He had a good year too, went for money and then when was the last time we heard from Fabian? I can find some of the same posters saying the same things about Brunner they were saying about Brunnstrum.
-
I still take Weiss and Alfie for the terms and $$$ over Flip and Brunn for the term and $$$ they are asking for.
-
You have an issue with a guy who averages 74 games a year, .602 ppg and is 30, for 5 years at 4.9 a year?
-
Miller may not offer much as far as goal scoring and points go, but him on the PK, gives Z and Dats a chance to rest instead of having to play in all facets of the game. Sure in a big moment you want Z out there killing penalties. But with Miller, Andersson, and Eaves killing Penalties the way they have, with Helm back the PK should be very strong. And at about a million a year Miller makes sense to me. Not the most important signing but a very good one and cheap nonetheless!
-
They still have one compliance buyout left. But I am of the thinking that at this time only Smith gets over a mil and very little over a million at that. So you are looking realistically at about 2.5 being used up on all of 3 of them.
-
Not a cap-ologist myself and unfortunately Cap Geek is on overload. Someone else will have to help out. But I think this leaves them in the neighborhood of 4 mil.

The press box? Seriously though, they need to buy out one and hope the other can be on LTIR. -
WOW, Holland gets Weiss for less than Clarkson went for! Great signing for a 2nd line center that gets between 55 and 60 points a season! And contradictory to the freak out posts, it leaves room for plenty of moves and RFA signings!
-
Sweet you have inside knowledge what did the Blues say during the meetings when they were planning to screw over the Wings? What is the Weiss Dollar amount? Is it 5.25 a yr for 7 years? If so then he is underpaid compared to Clarkson!
-
AWWWW FREAK OUT BEFORE THE DETAILS ARE RELEASED! WE ARE SCREWED HOLLAND SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH THE YOUNG GUYS! OH WHAT HE DID, AWWWW WE NEED TO SIGN A SPLASHY NAME!! /sarcasm~

And my point would be that it is an organizational decision. Nill is in a second or third tier hockey market, with very little pressure to win a cup. Holland is in a top tier hockey market that looks at everyone of his moves under a microscope. Holland is in an organization that has a long standing tradition of how they treat their players, Nill is given the keys to the castle and allowed to do what he wants. He made one move, and now we are saying that his trait is to be more aggressive. Again lets give him a year or two in Dallas before we anoint him the better GM, as my original post was in reply to some one saying we let the wrong GM leave! -
I am worried about the 6m with this guy, 5, I would be ok with, 6m is a bit much, it better be a short term!

Probably, what if they are he needs to reach 70 points? You have no idea, but are willing to complain based on some preconceive notion of the contract. -

Opie replied to ogreslayer's topic in General
NO, actually it is no where near it. Vinny's contract is actually worth 4.5 a year for 5 years!!! While Alfie is 3.5 for 1 year! -
What has Brunner done that makes him not overrated compared to Weiss?

3.5 (2 in bonuses, if he reaches them) Reading is overrated! -

So you do not like Swedes on teams, are you using that for your argument????? Nill traded and All-star would have been a bit better way to start that, however that doesn't suit your argument as much does it? That 21 yr old reportedly has off ice/maturity issues, and Rich Peverly is not exactly lighting the world on fire. And that Swede has 4 times put up > 70 point seasons and was on pace for 60 last season. Seguin stock has done nothing but go down in Boston, maybe that is part of the environment, maybe that is all on Seguin. But Seguin has had one season that was as good as Ericsson's worst season. Lets not judge Nill as some awesome NHL GM, until the regular season starts, heck lets even wait until he has a season or two under his belt. Remember the should have kept Yzerman over Holland posts, everyone still want Yzerman over Holland as a GM? -
LOL, 3 guys with a combined career total games played less than one season is your best 3rd line in hockey? Really, I think Chi would have something to say about that!
