OsGod, I agree with you some what, I agree this is just another thing that goes on in the NHL that is just bush league or shows a lack of respect. Elbows to the head, Late hits, crushing a guy when he is obviously in a very dangerous position. Are these things illegal, not always, but they show no respect. I bet in the old days Avery would have been the first guy to intentionally launch slappers at the face of a unmasked goalie on every shot. Because hey why not, it isn't illegal, it is just against the code of ethics. There was ethics in the game once, guys like Tootoo, Avery, and others have started playing a style of game that has no respect for others, including their teammates. I will reference "What it means to be a red wing" again, when they talk about Richard (who is one of the best players ever) and how he would light guys up (same with Howe), or use their elbows to protect themselves but would not go after a guy with elbows, or their stick. Sure there were some guys who did it then too. But they faced as much scrutiny in the locker room as they did on the ice. Now did Howe or Richard do things that were against the rules or dirty, yeah sure (did you say yeah sir, or yeah sure, Super Troopers anyone) but they would never try to injure some one. I think if Avery could find a way to sneak a chainsaw in he would, I know the poster was being Sarcastic, but what have any of us seen of Avery that makes us think otherwise. Between his mouth, his actions, and his complete lack of respect for the game, he has shown the only thing he has respect for is his bank account! I don't care if he scores the cup winning goal against the wings and wins the Conn Smythe I still don't want him anywhere near the winged wheel!!

I have a distinct problem with what he did, it was disrespectful and made him look like an ass, is it illegal not by a long shot. But I am not the only one that had a problem with it. Ask Scott Gomez Drury who skates over and gives him a little chuck in the side, imo to say hey cut the s*** you look stupid and you are making the rest of us look that way. I am one of the few who doesn't want this guy anywhere near the winged wheel again, he is what is wrong with the game. He respects no one in the game and does whatever he can to screw with people. I am not sure he even respects himself. Part of me thinks in his head, hey if I do this I will make it on TV and get another hot G/F.

Actually the difference lies in two things: 1: Rock, Chappelle, Mencia are known comedians who never pretend to be legit media members, Imus is portrayed as a legit news media member, his comment was supposed to be funny, but seeing as he tries to be taken serious so often it was hard to tell he was being funny. Rock, Chappelle and Mencia are so off the wall they are too sarcastic to be serious. 2. Rock, Chappelle, and Mecia's people/ancestors didn't enslave the group of people they are making fun of. I hate double standards however this is one that will stay with us for a while, as white folks we have for generations used words like the N word, or remarks regarding the looks or styles of minorities for years as a way of degrading people of color. However until white people around the nation stop using those words as degradation how are people supposed to know what white person is being funny and which is being degrading. If Imus had used the word ***, or turd knocker or something degrading towards homosexuals it would have been taking the same way. As white people we are not exactly known to be the most accepting society. The only difference between Slavery and the Holocaust is the ending, instead of burning and killing all of the Black people, slave owners were only able to lynch a few before they got to the north and safe ground. To portray what Imus did as just humor like Rock or Chappelle is to understate what he did. HE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER!! To paraphrase Jason Lee from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back: Here is the pulse (puts forefinger on his wrist checking pulse) and here is your head, Don, (points to his ass) far way from the pulse of racism!! Edit: that pic is funny as hell, that had to be done on purpose I can not imagine how they mixed that dude up for Draper. My question is where in the hell are the editors for these online articles. It seems like more and more typos/mistakes on these web articles. Do they just let these guys post their articles with out an editor.

I think Babs has told Mac to save it. If they wings are down in a game late, pick and choose your moments, Because if he throttles Tootoo when up 2 goals it does nothing, losing at that point does a ton for the Preds, even if he loses the fight and the wings are down, it can still be an emotional burst. Even if on the road you have to imagine there will be a ton of Wings fans there, that will be one of the biggest jolts of energy, even more than the goal he scored!

About time!
-
Flip is young Dats struggled when he was young too, have patience.
-
I have never seen a team offsides so many times. The weird thing is most of the time det has given them the line and they are still offsides!
-
Great play Sammy! Lucky Bounce!
-
IS that homer's or lids'
-
You have got to love the internet!
-
Which is making Dats and Z's passes stand out even more. The one before the end of the 1st Dats made a saucer pass over two preds and Z took it out of the air it just stuck to his stick like it was a receiver catching a pass!
-
Why are they talking about Nashville like they are the 1 and Det is the 8? Mcquire just said if Nashville wants to hoist the cup Arnott has to get going. They are the ******* 8 seed playing a 1, they should be losing, it would be impressive if they weren't losing, especially in Det!
-
Erat should not have pumped Hasek, I think he set him off and now Dom is going to be a brick wall!!!! I hope!
-
I think he has be brutal, he repeats himself over and over and over and over again. The goalie needs to make big saves, I think. I think the goalie needs to make big save. They're gonna need big saves from the goalie. Oh so you think the goalie is going to need to make big saves Manny. He is not very good, I am sorry, he should not make a career of this.
-
That save was sick!

I like the energy the whole team is showing right now, everyone is going at the net. D-mac made a very heady smart play, he filled the lane on the puck side of the defender so that he could get the rebound. Stick on the ice, great hustle!! Follow his lead boys!
-
Now that is something that D-mac provides that Downey doesn't. I am not saying it is a positive or negative attribute of the person, but Downey doesn't really run his gums in the media, sure after he takes care of business he may say something. I believe that trait is called humility, which I am a fan of. But on the inverse side, Mac has just planted a seed in Tootoo and the rest of the teams head. Now Tootoo will focus some energy on knowing where Mac is all of the time. And what ever energy he focuses on Mac is not on the game. Again not knocking Downey as a person, personally Humility is high on my list of people skills I look for in people, however in this instance a little brashness in the media may help, may back fire, but I think it will help!

Was Lids that sick all night, there were times were he looked like a cat toying with a 75% dead mouse!! Did Ralf struggle like that all night, he had some turnovers that were worse than what North Dakota gave BC!!! Cheli looked strong to me, this is the first game I got a good look at Kronwall Stuart and I love that pairing. Lilja made some nice plays and cleared the puck safely out of the zone using the boards. Overall how did the D play last night?

Echolalia, I really think Franzen is going to be a very good second liner before it is all said and done. I would like to see more of Cleary Flip Franzen

I think not hearing Hartigans name is like not hearing the officials name mentioned, it means they are doing exactly what they are suppossed to, I wouldn't mind hearing his name associated with scoring but I highly doubt that is what babs is looking for from him. But I am neither here nor there on who plays on that line, I have faith babs will do the right thing. Interesting side note here: some one in this or another thread that the line changes were Bowman esque, I think that is what made the wings so successful this past playoff as opposed to the previous ones. Neither Lewis nor Babs seemed like they felt they could move the lines around without either pissing players off or screwing up chemistry. There is a reason Bowman has all of those rings, and it is not because he has so many fingers!!
-
If you could guarantee me that some one anyone in the NHL will be the next Cam Neely I would trade all of Det current 2nd or 3rd line for him. A guy like that (maybe Lucic) is one hell of a commodity to have, there really aren't enough of those guys anymore, instead the league has given way to the enforcer, which I don't care about a guy like Downey he is clean, but for the most part are just dirty players looking to hurt someone who is better than them, and they make a nice living off of it too!
-
The only one that I would care about is the last one, in the post season you cannot have enough experience on the blue line, and most importantly: On Saturday he would break the record for most playoff games. The only foreseeable trouble with Nashville will lie with Kronwall, I can see the preds wanting to show him that they will not tolerate it, other than that, I don't see a big problem. And as I said before I think Z could take Tootoo in a fair clean fight (never going to happen with Tootoo). Mac or Drake should be able to handle him without the need for Downey, however if Babs thought there was a need for Downey I would not be upset in the least.
-
JWO, I think they are reffering more to the fact that Z's stick hit him in the shins as he was breaking away from the D man. But like you said I think Z and Webber's feet got tied up and he was falling before the stick hit his shin pads.

You do realize that you are no longer a die-hard wings fan, because you died really easy over a trade deadline deal (that while you wanted it to happen wasn't going to, and didn't) with your team still in first place. You previous posts supersede this one and you are in fact a Die-easy wings fan! I don't know what you were like when you were rooting for the team through the 70's, 80's, 90's all I do know is that you look to be a spoiled wings fan, who didn't have things go his way and bailed on a first place team, that happened to be leading the league in almost every team stat and has multiple players win individual awards (assuming Lids gets norris, Dats gets lady bing again) and stats. You are a walking contradiction, and comparing your loyalty to a country to rooting for a sports team is a disgrace to the people who live and die protecting this country. I would lay my life on the line for the US if I felt it was just. If (not sure how this would happen) my life depended on me never rooting for the wings again, I would stop rooting for the wings, no matter what the cause just or unjust. However I would not stop because: they have gone 6 years (5 seasons) without the cup, I don't like player A, they didn't sign or trade for a player I have a man crush on, or I don't like the front office people. If you don't want to read what I typed just read this part it sums it up You, leftwinger are in fact a die-easy wings fan, or in other words a fair weather fan! Your actions, not your words, show everyone on this forum as much. But if it helps you, away from the forum you can tell everyone you are a die hard wings fan and that you root for them. Because I am not sure I know of too many "DIE-HARD WINGS FANS" that would say this about their team: Especially after their team just finished the season as the best team in the NHL!!

Hits in open ice are always going to look worse than a hit against the boards. In open ice bodies go flying, a yard sale may take place, it is just more visually graphic, where as a hit into the boards doesn't look as bad because usually the boards absorb the contact and neither player ends up flying anywhere. However the hit into the boards has a lot more danger to it, even if looks tell you otherwise. However there is no way that hit is worse than either of the two pronger suspension hits last postseason, if he gets more than one game it is an outrage, if he gets one game, meh I am ok with that, price to pay for people to re-assess if the wings are soft or not!!
