It was a lot better 6-8 years ago but due to team movement and name change a few have fallen of the list like the Jets. Now that I think about it I should have used the Jets as an example as it doesn't count anymore and I wouldn't have given an answer out!

I thought the same thing, I was thinking on their Jersey but the question is logo. Here is a good one that is a little outdated. Name all of the teams that share a name (team name not city) with another team. Example: New York Rangers - Texas Rangers

Those D pairings didn't exactly strike confidence in me!!

Because of the Odds not the chances! Yes the better team is the odds on favorite I never argued that, what I argued is that upsets are not that flukey, especially in Hockey if you look at the last couple of years. Playoffs that are more than one game per round will favor the better team, but the better team does not always win, see the other post I did with playoff upsets since 2003. They are upsets because people like you or me or Barry Melrose think that one team SHOULD beat the other, that doesn't mean anything in terms of what the chances of a team winning are. When I say chances please do not correlate that to odds, those are two completely different things. Each team in the first round has 7 chances to win 4 games. The odds are that the better team will win. See what I mean!

I couldn't agree more, but when people say he will not go there they have no basis to say that. Unless they know Marion closely and know some fact that the rest of us don't. He may have talked to Kovie and heard that playing with Savard would be awesome, maybe he looks at the team and says wow with me they could be a legit contender. Besides Hossa, no one knows what is going on in his head. But yes odds are in Det favor but like the Superbowl that is why they play the game!!!!

What is so hard to understand THE GIANTS JUST BEAT THE PATS, yet I am the one who doesn't watch football! If the Lions were good enough to make the playoffs they would presumably have been a wild card team. The Giants who are a wild card team won the super bowl. Yes the odds in vegas and the betting community is smarter to put their money on the pats, however had you put your life savings on the pats you would be one broke Mo-Fo!!!!
-
Why not the Giants were a wild card team and they beat the undefeated Pats, and when the Pats won their first they were facing the greatest show on Turf, and were a wild card team. But thanks for helping me prove my point!!!!

I am being stubborn, how am I anymore more stubborn than you, I am saying the possibility exists and you are telling me no. I will agree with you that Detroit does have the talent and ability that makes them a wiser bet, yes I already said that, but to say that Detroit has better chances than Bos is mathematically incorrect. Ottawa (4) beating Buffalo (1) last year Colorado (7) beating Dallas (2) 2006 Anaheim (6) beating Calgary (3) 2006 Edmonton (8) beating Detroit (1) 2006 Montreal (7) beating Boston (2) 2004 Calgary (6) beating Detroit (1) 2004 Calgary (6) beating San Jose (2) 2004 Anaheim (7)Sweeping Detroit (2) 2003 Anaheim (7) Beating Dallas (1) 2003 IN 2003 a 7 and a 6 seed played in the WCF. Do I need to continue?

Random fluke, Really so all of the teams recently that won the pres trophy and then didn't win the cup or eliminated in the first round are flukes. Like Atlanta getting owned by the rags last year, that was a fluke, or as you stated Edm Det, Det LAK, do I really need to keep going with this.
-
While yes the odds in vegas are better on the Wings, the B's and Wings and all other teams in the playoffs have a1 in 16 chance of winning the cup.
-
He has said he wants to win a cup, because you or I think Boston is a bad place to do that, doesn't mean he thinks that. He may be arrogant and think he could put them over the edge, maybe he really wants money. Players and Orgs say a lot of things they don't mean. And if Boston makes the Playoffs they have the same chance as Det, and with Hossa they have a better chance than they do with Murray!
-
I will use a football analogy here. The Giants took a ton of momentum from the last game of the season. When they went to Tampa the Bucs looked rusty, same with Dallas whose players had 3 weeks off (some of them). The Giants players were still in rhythm, they were still at game speed. resting players too close to the playoffs is deadly, especially if it is some one like Dom who is a notoriously slow starter. You want him playing to get his rhythm back, and not be trying to get that back in the post season. Having said that I wouldn't mind seeing Ralf get a couple of more games off. Cleary is a different story, he will be activated the day before the playoffs (exaggeration) so there will be no keeping him out longer.

The more I read about this the more I see him coming to Beantown. Boston is looking to get rid of Murray (impact player) and has said publicly that any trade they do will include Kessel, for some reason they don't see him as an integral part of the future. I think with Bergereon and Lucic they see that being the focal points. So Kessel, Murray, and a pick for Hossa. Murray was a hot commodity at the start of the season, it was rumored (however much you trust that) Murray and a 2nd to Dallas for Robidas, looking back on it the B's should have jumped all over that!
-
Well first of all there are a lot of obvious things that the league is missing (instigator for one), I really do not trust the top tier of the NHL. I was on the side of the players during the lockout and I think they have a better understanding of what is going on on the ice than the execs do.

The technology is the same, the padding will be the same, The helmet will still be the same size, chest protectors will still cover the whole chest, that will not change therefore the risk of goalie injury is not in question here. What is in question is the amount (think sq footage) of space that the pads will cover. The goalies have used "Safety" or "Injury" issues as a reason (I wanted to say excuse but that made me sound like an asshat) before, I think it backfired on them when the trapezoid came in to play. I have no proof, but if the goalies were arguing against it the league could have said well this prevents you from going into danger areas. But either way I still think safety is a moot point in this discussion, the equipment will still be the same materials and some goalies are currently playing with equipment the size they are talking about shrinking them to, and they do not get hurt.

I agree with EJ Hrdek and Melrose ( I can not believe I just typed those words) the pads are not designed for protection otherwise they would be rounded as most human bodies are round. They are square and protrude well beyond the legs, arms, and body of the goalie. No one is saying make the padding thinner and less protective. People are asking for narrower pads, which is similar to smaller pads. But smaller is more of a general term that could describe the thickness or the height of the pads. Plus the Chest protectors that are 3 inches above the shoulders and 3 inches wider than the ribcage are ridiculous. I am not saying that Goalies rely on their padding to make the saves, I think they use bigger pads to make the net harder to shoot at. And seriously if it is legal why not do it, it is not like they are breaking the rules of the game or cheating, well unless the stories of guys putting cardboard under them to make the flaps stand up higher are true. Plus this rule will not impact all goaltenders, sure guys like Luongo and Jiggy will be impacted, but this changes nothing about Broduer's game, and I would venture Vokoun's pads wouldn't be changed much either. This is a typical discussion board debate, one extreme to the other. If they were to take 4 inches of the max pad width it would go from 38 to 34 inches which I believe Broduer wears currently. And you know what if the best goalie in the world wears smaller pads and is still that much better (and we are talking about one of the most durable goalies in the league) why would anyone else need bigger pads. When was the last time Broduer was hurt after getting hit with a shot, he has smaller pads than Jiggy, Luongo, Snow, etc. but he still plays 50+ games a year and has gawdy stats. Anyone who argues that smaller pads will be an injury issue needs look no further than Broduer to say that is untrue!

Hey, Listen, If you are going to start to bring logic into this discussion I am going to have to ask you to leave!!!

I will tell you I think Lucic is going to be the next big thing, pun intended to come out of Boston Hockey. If Bergereon can recover, Kessel can keep developing, and Lucic well just keeps doing the things he is, this team could be respectable. But they have to get rid of Murray's and Sturm's contracts. Otherwise they will have a hard time keeping Kessel and Lucic around, they don't have a lot of cap room and paid too much for some guys Chara cough* (7.5 for 7 for a offensively deficient D-man). Especially when you consider their goaltending issues!
-
Good thing you said something, everyone would have thought I was an asshat, oh wait, well at least thanks for pointing it out!!

I tend to think Yahoo does an OK job of staying true to the sports they are reporting so I read a lot more hockey news there. Football or Baseball I go to ESPN, basketball I go to Boston.com because I only follow the C's not the sport really. If that makes any sense. Here are there rankings, plus a little tid bit on buyers and sellers: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=Auti...o&type=lgns for those of you who could give a crap about the blurbs here is a basic list: Dal Det NJ Mon Ott Min Ana Pit SJ Van Cal Nas Phx Bos Phi Was NYR STL Car Buf Col NYI CBJ CHi ATL EDM Fla TBL Tor LAK

What in the hell does that have to do with saluting the crowd??? I for one think it is a great idea if saved for the right time. End of the season/playoffs, done as an appreciation for something the fans did. Not something that is orchestrated and phony!
