    Washington Capitals

I was reading through this thread and was about to post the same thing. Kolzig played great last night, and won the game 6-5. That is slightly important, so I will say it again, the goalie played great last night, and still managed to give up 5 goals. Malkin's goal was a laser beam that could not have been stopped by Kolzig, however the goal was preventable. Instead of both D-men dropping back, dropping back, until they were a very effective screen on Kolzig, then Malkin shot a frozen rope between one of their legs, maybe one of them should have picked him up at the blueline. Funny thing though, that pass looked like it was intended to go across the ice to the other wing, Malkin came flying through the center and went with the puck. Most of the goals I would say were not Kolzig's fault, the Sykora one I could have scored, that was a gimme. Pit moved the puck all around against the WAS D. BTW Malkin would be a superstar/all-star/ hero of the world on another team. Don't get me wrong he is great with Crosby, but with Crosby hurt it looks like he is taking his game to another level, gotta be hard living in the shadow of Crosby. No matter what he does, Crosby will always be the headliner.

    Osgood will start All-Star game

True, so potentially 4 of the 6 starters and if not 3 of the 6, still pretty damn impressive, not as impressive as had they all been voted starters, but it is hard to get voted a starter when your name isn't on the ballot. That is why I don't like the voting starting so early. It is like they start earlier just so some one can break the number of votes record or something. Why start the voting with 10-15 games in. Wait for at least the 1/3rd mark of the season.

Leafs fire GM Jay Ferguson Jr.

Am I the only one who thinks it should be Maurice that gets the axe first?

    Downie in the spotlight again......

I agree, well except the sheet thing, if this was his first incident no mention of this anywhere, anything he does for the next couple of years will be viewed under a microscope, someone should make sure to let him know that.

Datsyuk's fluent in the language of the ice

Nice article. I am really surprised no one has really been mentioning anything about his defensive plays. He does a very good job at back checking. That little stick lift poke check he uses so deftly.

Could Hossa come to Red Wings?

I would like to see that go down! I for some reason think that in the wing's mind that Kronner is not available, but if you are talking about this guy, anyone but Dats, Lids, Ralf, Z are open really. Flip - Kronwall - Pick/prospect (not Kindl or Ericsson) Then you go Cleary- Dats - Homer Huds - Zetta - Hossa Maltby - Draper - Sammy/Franzen Drake - Kopecky - Sammy/Franzen Lids Lilja Ralf Lebda/lKindl/Quincey/Meech Cheli Lebda/lKindl/Quincey/Meech

Could Hossa come to Red Wings?

You are forgetting that they are in the unenviable position of either taking a Hudler type player or getting nothing. From what I have seen on the net, the likelihood of him returning to ATL is damn near zilch. The other GM's in the league know that, so most of the offers they will get will be Hudler type players, plus he is a rental player, UFA at season's end. This is different than trading for a guy who has 2 years left on his deal, no one will offer up a star player with years left, to get a rental player, even if he is an all world player. Hudler (maybe flip), prospect, high draft pick or Hudler(or Flip), Sammy(or Franzen, or maybe even Lilja), prospect/pick would be the highest I would be willing to offer for him. Because like Sundin, at the end of the season there is no guarantee that you will be able to hold on to him. That is what, imo, decreases the asking price. Other wise why would anyone trade an all star or a couple of potential stars to get a guy for 2-4 months.

Wings must adjust to keep fan base alive

Oh I am 100% sure it will be, I just like using the name as a chance to honor some one. But on the other hand NE Pats naming the Razor(it is called Gillette, Razor just a nickname) helped the stadium to be built without any money from the taxpayers!

    Downie in the spotlight again......

I didn't see that as anything malicious, he was finishing a check (a clean one at that). It was one of those hits that happens 5-10 times a game and usually results in a scrum, but not usually penalties. I think two factors went into this, it is Steve Downie, and the player got hurt. If it is Chris Gratton and the player bounces right back up, we are not even talking about this today.

Wings must adjust to keep fan base alive

Well that and Fenway park or Yankee stadium, but I agree with you on the corporate naming. I know it is like the ads on this site a necessary evil that gives the team a lot more money to build with, but I still like the thought of a Steve Yzerman arena or Red Wing Place. Hey, How much do you think we would each have to donate to get it named Letsgowings.com arena. That would be cool!!!!!

Could Hossa come to Red Wings?

Thanks to the both of you, this is what I love about this board sometimes. I was reading the posts that say "You are stupid if you don't want Hossa" or "How can you not want him"! So as I am reading through the thread thinking up my reply, I find two posts that sum up my thoughts exactly. And it has nothing to do with not wanting Hossa in Detroit, hell I would want Crosby, Ovechkin, Thornton, Nabakov, Phaneuf, Regher, Kovie, Heatley, Spezza, and maybe Malkin, but what Detroit can fit under the salary cap and what I want are two different things. I would rather hold on to home grown products like Z and Dats, than I would sign Hossa to lose one of the two. Those of you that argue how can you not give up Huds and Flip for Hossa, this is not 2002. You give those two up and you now have a really good 1st and 2nd line and then the 3rd and fourth lines come into play. Even if the 3rd line is mediocre the 4th is still going to be weakened by this deal. So glad Holland doesn't have the quick trigger some of you would have!

Could Hossa come to Red Wings?

Even worse scenario Hossa on Thornton's wing, if he can turn Cheechoo into a star what do you think he could do with an already all star.

    Lidstrom is like Flavor Flav

You, me and Chuck D agree. Public Enemy, more specifically Chuck is very upset by the music industry glorifying the gangsta attitude and life style.

    Lidstrom is like Flavor Flav

Not trying to play music critic here but Flav was never a gansta nor did he profess to violence and guns. Actually Public Enemy's message was quite the opposite, while yes they did have the PE Soldiers, they were more of a figurative reference. They were about changing the way Young, well all, Black people were thought of and the way they thought. Chuck D especially was all about educating Blacks as well as trying to change the violence and alcohol induced life style that was running rampant in the black community. Flav was the hype man, that is why more often than not he was only heard yelling things like "Yeahhhh BOOOOYY". However when he was actually given a song like "Yo ****@" or "911 is a joke" he suprisingly carried his own quite well, not as well as Chuck D but better than say Fat Joe or a lot of the rappers out there today. Sorry for that but thought I would share, as a 31 year old white guy that grew up on early rap(I was made fun of by my friends in elementary school a lot, as they were listening to Megadeth and Metallica I was listening to Run DMC, PE, LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee) hopefully I didn't offend anyone by using the word Black. Not my intention. BTW it is scary how natural that pic of Lids looks though!!! Maybe he grew up on PE and LL as well, that would be cool as hell!!!!!

    Pavel Datsyuk pwning goalies

What in the hell does pwning mean? At first I thought it was a typo that they had hit the P instead of O seeing as they are right next to each other! And if someone says it means Owning, that is ridiculous you do realize that the O and P are next to each other and that pwning is no shorter than owning. Why people feel the need to invent words so that the internet can have its own net lingo is beyond me, Kewl = annoying!!!!

    Forsberg again...

I for one would take almost all former Avs if they could help the team, Forsberg could if that big bad H word is true right now it is not a certain that he will be healthy, that is my one worry.

    Forsberg again...

With Heatley out I was thinking the same thing, they have about 3 mil to offer him but that puts them up against the cap. But they have had a sluggish middle of the season after starting like a house of fire! EDIT: I am a dumbass!

Sat. Hotstove: Rob Blake to the Wings?

OH man IF, only if, the wings could find a way to land him without losing Hudler and Flip that would be a great line. I have always like the way Rolston plays the game, I think under Babs and the way this team plays he would be a good scorer but also work in the corners and play a very solid two way game. Cleary would be another great linemate for him, so maybe if one of Huds or Flip would be required to get him that would not be bad. Maybe Sammy (cheap with a few years left) Quincey/Meech (neither will crack the Det lineup any time soon) late rd pick for Rolston (UFA at season's end, 34, 2.4 current salary). If Sammy is not enough I would throw Huds in there (maybe Franzen but I don't think they would want him anymore than Sammy) and remove the Pick. Or Sammy with Huds for Rolston. Move Cleary up to the 2nd line, Franzen to the third. What do you think, viable trade options or no? I think Blake is not what the wings need, Danny Markov from last year is exactly what this team could use, Rob Blake is not that guy, was never big on this guy to begin with. But I wouldn't be terribly upset if they got him, neither would I do a touchdown dance!!!

    Forsberg again...

I will always be skeptical of a Forsberg deal, I just cannot trust he will be healthy. But I guess if Holland and Co. think it is worth it, how can I argue. BUT IF he is healthy man what a weapon to have, especially if the Ducks get Selanne back any time soon. That team will turn it around, barring a major set back to Teemu.

    hudler-filppula-cleary-franzen

Franzen _____________ Huds Cleary Flip Franzen was the easy choice as he offers little in the way of offense and guys like him can be picked up cheaply through free agency or a low level trade. The other three it is hard to order them, but if you get rid of Huds you must keep flip and vice versa. Cleary has, what I think some who want to keep Franzen over Huds are hoping Franzen can become. He has the potential but just hasn't started to develop.
