interminded I see your point, even if he is not motivated he is an almost guaranteed 90 pts. I still go back to my original post about Z, Salary cap, and age as reasons I wouldn't want him. BTW I never wanted Roenick as a wing, I wanted him to find a team to get his 500th, but that was about it.

Jagr seems to me to be the type of guy that you would refer to as Lame Duck. Where as most guys bust ass in a contract year to get more dough, he strikes me as the type of guy who would be less motivated (therefore less of a player) if he knew he was going to be some where for one year and one year only. Just my thoughts, don't know the guy just a read I get from him.

With the facts that Zetterberg is going to get paid soon, Jagr is aging, and the Salary cap I would say no, but in NHL 08 I am all over it!!

I don't agree with a lot of rules or calls in the game of hockey today but a charge is a charge as much as instigation is instigation and goaltender interference is ..blah blah you get the point. My point is, I guess, that with how inconsistent the league is with what is and what isn't a penalty players have no idea what they can and can't get away with. But if you go by the rule book: # A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner. # When a major penalty is imposed under this Rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed, and an automatic fine of one hundred dollars ($100). # A minor, major or a major and a game misconduct shall be imposed on a player who charges a goalkeeper while the goalkeeper is within his goal crease.

Well seeing as Phanuef got away with a charge with that big hit on Hudler I would say it all evened out in the end. (Don't agree watch the footage he leaves his feet before contact, whether that be a second before or a half second he left his feet, charge!)

It is amazing how the Nashville sale grabbed so much attention, yet this one slipped under the radar, probably has something to due with the fact the sale was thought to have gone through successfully.

There was no excuse for that hit. Hartnell very easily could have turned away or let up, but he had no reason to hit Alberts. This team needs to learn a lesson, if this is another 2 game $5600 penalty, that is terrible!

First off not here to bash Downey, he is playing his role great and is having a better impact than I thought he would. Here is my worry with making him a full timer and the issue I had in the offseason with him in the winged wheel. He will not log ice time in the Post season, these type of guys usually don't nothing against him. However, how does this impact line's chemistry in the post season? It will be imperative that the wings roll 4 lines, and based on the wings record with him in the game it will be imperative for him to suit up in the regular season. Is it better to have a fourth line that grabs about 5 minutes a game, with chemistry and energy, or a 4th line that could have some potential to score be on the ice. I guess if Dats and Z are on a tear still and the second line continues to progress there is really no reason to sit him in the playoffs. Could Downey log 50-60 games, he hasn't done it in the NHL, maybe in other levels, but that is a lot of time for a guy as the season is winding down. As I said I think he gives them a ton of energy, and I was one of his staunchest proponents, but credit where credit is due. Just thinking out loud here, but I will say he is doing what he has done in the past, play limited minutes, doing the dirty work. Any other thoughts?

This game is about 6 minutes in and is a very fast paced up and down gem. If you are like me and can't watch the Wings check this game out if you can!!

Deklete this thread too much green today

Great frigging game going on here!! 3-3 9 left in the second

For the size he is he actually skate quite well. He may not be martin St Louis but he skates well for a kid that big. He is 19 and looks like he will log decent minutes with the B's due to a lack of talent they have. But I think it will help him a ton. He is starting to show he belongs in NHL and I would love to see him on Kessel's wing. Then see Detroit trade a bag of pucks and a ham Sandwich to Boston for Kessel and Lucic!

Oh I know but it shows the frustration that this is becoming.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AkBj...p&type=lgns The story that never dies, I liked this quote personally: investors' spokesman Joe Hall wrote in an e-mail, without elaborating.

So I was watching the game on versus last night and the announcers were talking about Avery and the fact that he is a fighter who has the ability to score. Which reminded me of all the things I said about him in posts when he was in arbitration. I apologize for saying he was dirty, when what I should have said was he is an agitator. Last night during the game Andy Brickley (who I have to listen to in every Bruins game) said that he liked the way Philly was playing, it makes people think twice about playing against them, and then he said Avery plays the same kind of game. Which could not be further from the truth. I am not a fan of Sean Avery but he is not dirty like the hits Philly has laid out. And I would have thought that since Brickley saw Bergeron get his face smashed into the boards by a Philly player he would have had a negative view of the Philly team. And then last night when Avery challenges a flyer to a fair fight and tosses his helmet, he had to motion to Richardson 3 or 4 times to dump his lid, and when the guy finally did he tried to stay as far away from Avery as possible. If you are going to play the type of Hockey Philly is playing right now you should be expecting people to want to have a go with you and then you should stick you head in the mix and take a punch or two. Otherwise clean up your game!!!! But the point of my topic (which will probably be deleted or have no replies) is that I called Avery dirty in the old thread, he is not dirty he is on the edge of playing hard, aggressive hockey and being dirty, but he stays within the rules.

Too Early??? I am pumped about the Game on Feb 2nd in Beantown, I am 4 rows of the ice in the corner, the end the wings will be shooting at twice!!! So I guess I would say it is almost too late to get pumped (j/k). Enjoy the game hopefully the team is playing hard and ready to avenge their loss.

I think Holland already knew that before the signing!

Realistically I think the only viable options would be in the Ryder category. IMHO I think Sundin will be too expensive as a rental player, he will pull a Tkachuk, finish the season and then back to the leafs. Hossa would be too expensive to sign next year, and the team will need to focus on keeping Zetterberg, and Lids they are big keys for the immediate future. Ryder, Gratton, and some one from another failing team would probably be a better option. A trade along the lines of the Schneider deal, where Holland thinks he has a chance to keep the guy long term, or at least sign him for a couple of years. I hate giving up a player, prospects, for a one year rental, especially if there is no chance of getting the guy back. At least with Bert last season the team thought they had a chance at re-signing him.

Not to derail this thread any further but I have to lean towards the fact that Joe T makes the linemates around him better as opposed to he needs good line mates. Cheechoo and Michalek are not exactly guys that before Thornton were predicted to do what they are/have done with him. Joe Thornton is easily one of the top 5 in the game at the forward position. Argue the power forward thing all you want because that is a stylistic assessment, saying he needs good line mates is like saying Crosby needs good line mates. Obviously the better the line mate the better performance. And when Joe came into the league he was the definition of a power forward, he fought (not so well but he did it), he scored, he threw around some big checks, and he made great passes. As he has developed he probably saw what that style of game earned Eric Lindros and has learned to play a different game, but then again he his a big strong body to try and move off of the puck. So like Eva said it all depends on your definition of power forward is. But their is no arguing that he gets himself on the score sheet, not his line mates get him on it!

Misunderstood??????? Do you mean as in the language he speaks is misunderstood by the people he is insulting, that he is not actually insulting, they just misunderstood the words coming out of his mouth? OR He is misunderstood in that no one gets him, that no one understands that he is not a complete and utter ****** Bag of a human being? That saying things that are completely disrespectful and wrong, is ok because he is just trying to get under their skin. Because if it is the first I will take back everything I ever said about him being classless (I already did about calling him dirty), but if it is the second you are a poor misguided human being much like Sean Avery is!!! Cancer is not funny, Alcoholism not funny, neither of those are acceptable for him to use as a way to draw people into a fight or penalties. You want to get under a guys skin, call him names, use a couple of your mama jokes, but illnesses are not ok. Hey even crack a joke at a guys wife (as long as she is not dying or an alcoholic) call her a ****, what ever, Reg Dunlap did it. But their are certain things that just are not ok to crap on a guy about, and any one with an ounce of human decency knows where that line in the sand is. Avery has no idea where the sand even is, he is in his on boat in the ocean looking for a line in the sand.
