That is what I worry about Interminded. That just before or at the deadline these two will jump on board, to me that is horrible. Yes it is in the rules, just like the RFA thing, but he has a player sitting on the sidelines that no one else can make an offer to, that for all we know could be working out like Cheli does in the offseason. A guy who is doing nothing but preparing for the stretch and cup runs.

I agree 100% This guys work ethic is great, a great example to set for the young guys coming up through the org. Also he is willing to play wing, and he is the best Face off guy the team has. It sounds like in the article that the wings are pretty much letting him make his mind up on the length of the contract.

Don't get me wrong I don't want Lang back, just another player who can put up some offensive numbers, and have a few less turnovers!!!

While yes I agree they are more of a threat together, the team doesn't have the talent to keep them together. Last Year Lang got a lot of points on the second line and that allowed the team to keep them together. Not trying to knock the Flames, but playing against a team with a better 1-2 defensive punch will be able to slow that line down considerably. I think Babs should save the combo until times of trouble.

I heard Clouts is going to be wearing a pink Barbie Bicycle helmet this year while in net for the Manchester Monarchs. The reasoning you may ask.... Well it is a rule that players must wear helmets, Clouts wanted the team to cover the price of his helmet, they figured since a puck never hits him they just go right past him, why spend the money on a fancy helmet when the Barbie one won't get hit anyways.

jgagnon, I just don't think mentally he is healthy enough to do it. Although he was a grinder and a banger he played the game at a very high mental level. However I think he is physically worn out and mentally exhausted. But if he was healthy and proved to the wings staff that he was 100% back to what he was his first year in Cal, then yeah I wouldn't hate seeing him in the wheel again.

Chelios and Lidstrom should have knives in there sticks (you know like those walking sticks you can take a part and their is a knife in the shaft) and every time Iginla skates by tonight they could fall on their sticks, cutting themselves and bleeding so bad it makes Malarchuck's wound look like a scratch and then they could say Iginla did it, and after 6 of them die the league will have to do some thing about Iginla killing everyone. The wings can then draft Dick Tracy as both a defensive replacement and as a detective to figure out what is going on. But since he is on the wings payroll he will point the finger at Iginla, the league, happy to have this horrible situation over with, will award the Cup to the wings and make Dick Tracy the Conn Smythe winner.

Speaking of getting hit last night Rolly got stunned pretty good from the sammy shot, didn't look like a rocket of a shot, but I am not saying that doesn't mean it didn't hurt like a bastard/ Does he not wear a collarbone pad, I notice shortly afterwards they showed Dom and he has a red protector that covers his collarbone area. Is that pad that constrictive that a guy would bypass wearing it?

Esteef, Have you ever looked at Downey's Stats? First of all he is 5 years older than Cleary, Cleary has also shown signs of being an offensive threat, hence being a first round 13th overall pick. Downey was undrafted. Comparing Downey and Cleary shows that you just clambering for him to be in the game. Oddly enough Cleary hasn't played less than half a season since Downey's rookie year. Since then Cleary has been playing in a hell of a lot more games and in the 00-01 and 01-02 seasons he had seasons very similar to last years. So it goes to show that yes there were people out there that probably saw that coming from Cleary. However, again you comparrison is way off base. As Cleary can hit, provide energy, kill penalties, and create offense. Do you know why he is a career 13th forward, because he has a one dimensional game. He provides hitting and fighting, that is it. And apparently he doesn't do it that well or he would get more playing time.

From what little I have watched of the 3 games played so far the biggest weakness seems to be the trailer on the play. It seems like the D (whole team not just D-men) is getting caught watching the puck side of the ice with their sticks off of the ice, then a pass slides to the late guy coming through on the other side of the ice and the player is looking at a goalie moving across the crease and no one in between the shooter and the goalie. That's my opinion we welcome yours.

Well judging off of what Babcock did with Hudler last year, he is going to keep the youngster in situations that are not over his head, ease him into the game and then by next year hopefully he will be ready to log full minutes. Plus with the injury to Franzen the line shifting puts babs in a pinch, now he has Kopecky and Ellis that are young and inexperienced. He could bench one of two players who are all around type players for an enforcer who can do nothing on the ice, but fight which now limits the offense even more. Look at Downey's past, he doesn't make the line up very often at all, he is in his thirties and has yet to play even close to a full season. ! I understand that you guys like fighting find it entertaining as do I, but clambering for Downey every game is over the top. The guy has very little upside, I will say it again, I would not mind seeing him over Maltby but that is it. Besides maybe getting in a fight what does Downey do in last nights game?? How does he change the face of the game?? Was there a blatant intent to injure last night? Was there a cheap shot that he could have prevented or revenged? What does Downey provide last night? And before you answer my questions with "Well what did Kopecky/Ellis do?" they are different players and have different roles and futures with the wings organization. Kopecky/Ellis will get that valuable NHL experience that people are looking for when bringing a player in. How many times do you hear "well they have no experience so lets go another route."? Downey does nothing to change last nights game positive or negative, just like Ellis and Kopecky, difference being they are learning and Downey is who he is and that is all he will be. Therefore it is a positive having the youngsters in, maybe not today, but they are learning the NHL game and what it is like to play at this level.

That is the problem with this argument when someone mentions that Downey is a waste of a roster spot it is automatically assumed that the person saying it thinks all fighters are a waste of a roster spot. Listen as much of a hard on for Downey that some of you have does not change the fact that no matter where he has gone, no matter what the roster in front of him he gets very very few starts. He has only played half a season 2x. That to me means that a lot of other teams (5 to be specific) have also thought that he was not good enough to earn a roster spot. The reason why some one says fighters won't stop cheap shots is because others keep saying it will. So therefore if your logic is that Downey will prevent an injury and that is his value, then yes he is worthless to this team. Because as stated by many, fighters will not stop cheap shots (see Downie McAmmond for reference). And yes comparatively at this point in time of their careers Kopecky is the better player, so he deserves the ice time. This happens in every sport, a player who has experience and is questionable to make the roster will often lose a spot to a player who has potential and can develop without hurting the team. If they are fighting over the same role and one player has the potential to do a lot of things and one player is one dimensional the team will more than likely chose the player with the all around game and hope to develop him by surrounding him with vets, Like Drake or Draper.

I really think this team has a decent number of guys who are going to get 15-20 goals, guys like Cleary, Flip, Huds, etc. Seeing as that is about a goal every four games and you have to think that guys will get streaky, this team will be riding the backs of Dats, Z, Lids, Ralf, until the random game where Kopecky has a goal, Cleary has two, and some how Maltby manages to fall on the puck knocking it in the net with his nose. All kidding aside, this is the reason I think this team needs a bona fide top 6 forward. While they may be able to get sporadic scoring from guys like Cleary, Flip, Mule, Huds, Sammy, they are going to struggle to get night in and night out scoring. Dats and Z will hit cold spots and right now we as fans are hoping it coincides with a hot streak from the aforementioned guys!
