I agree on the road in the PO they did much better apart (playwise not stat wise) because the other team had to decide which line to sick their top pairing on. Damn stupid last change rule!!!
-
Well Thornton and Guerin have played on the same line together so I guess if one were inclined to be a stat person they could compare Guerin's stats from 99-00 to the stats of 00-01 and 01-02. But to ignore some one just click on their name, then in the window that pops up click profile options then choose ignore user. If you would like screen shots there is a fee incorporated and you must call the helpdesk!!! LOL, sorry I am an IT guy!!!

I fully expect him to become the next "is lazy and sucks" target for this board!!! Not so sure that Bert has more "intangibles" then Homer. I believe it was on VS when they showed Bert flinch and turn to the side, to avoid being hit by a slap shot from the point. Now I am not saying that I wouldn't go running for cover myself, however even the announcer said that with Homer there that was a goal, because by moving they way he did, not only did he let the goalie (giggy I believe) see the puck he also let him no where the puck was coming from. Let's not confuse Bert of a couple of years ago with this one, he skates around the net instead of at it, I am not sure that he is really faster than Homer, and Homer is the pest that annoys people and gets them to take penalties. Bert isn't really pissing to many people off. They may hate him because of THE INCIDENT, however it is not from his current play on the ice.

Nashville will miss Vokoun, maybe they are thinking the money they will be saving will help them not go on sale. But if you get rid of one of the main guys, if not he main guy, responsible for your team being anywhere near good, losing is not going to help you make money.

I brought this up in the other Boynton thread, how in the world can his asset be an accurate shot, but his flaw is he can't hit the net. To me that makes this scouting report void of meaning. It contradicts itself, and I agree there is no way Boynton is a 1 or 2 d-man in this league. He may play on a top pairing but if Kronwall played with lids does that make him the wings 2 know it would be cheli, schnieds, or markov before Kronwall.

Very true, everyone overlooks Dats Defensive ability because his offense is so good, then you ahve Zetterberg, while playing wing is technically a center. I think both are better in their own end then Draper, which is saying a lot!!
-
EVA, where are all the big name UFA's in your list, it can't be an off season without huge signings, I may have a coronary!! LOL
-
Because the team needs a second line center!!! LOL just kidding, Due to the success that Dats and Zatta have when on the same line as opposed to the way the team performs when they are seperate makes a lot of us want to keep them together. However, I believe that Shanny leaving and Stevie retiring will pay tremendously for these two. Now the pressure is squarely on them, they now are the team and it is their team. Where as before it was Stevie and Shanny's team, and we were saying "It will be Dats and Hank's team in the future". As a player that has to be a tough role. Where am I going with this, they both have seemed to step up their games a little last year in the new roles. I hope that this coming year they develop a game away from each other on separate lines. Of course they are going to have more success on the same line, they have a ton of chemistry together. So it works, you take a cup of Dats mix it with a cup of Hank and throw in any winger you want IE: homer, flip, hully (past reference not saying now) and you will have success. The problem is they really haven't developed chemistry with anyone else, due to revolving line mates and playing primarily with each other. But I would love a Shanny Dats Hank line. OHHH I think I soiled myself just thinking about it!!!

I think due to his nature he will always have a great interest in hockey. This man lived and breathed hockey for a long long time. Anyone that is that good at what they do will always have the game in their heart, just ask Michael Jordan, or Stevie Y. These guys like Scotty cannot get the game out of their system.

That play was all over VS for about a week, however they only kept showing Dats deke out both the D and Rolly. What I thought was far more impressive was how clean and vicious that hit was. Markov Played well and I really would like to have him back in detroit again. But alas, that is Kenny's, not my, decision.

5-7 years ago hell yeah, now mmmmmmm not so much!!

Which of the 7 'big' names get into the Hall this year?
Opie replied to BowmansBrain's topic in General
I think the issue with Neely was empathy, everyone felt like he had so much talent and he tried so many times to come back, he even scored 52 in 50 (or something like that) games I think. I think that is what got him in, I am not justifying the selection but saying I think the voters had soft hearts that year. 4 possibly 5 of those guys could make it, not first ballot but they have shots. Bure is almost an exact replica of Neely, not play wise that is a joke to compare them that way. But situationally they both had some great years (in an offensive league) and had injuries shorten their careers. -
There isn't a simple algorithm to say if you take a 6 d-man and make him a #2 multiply his current numbers by 2, or by the percent of ice time increase. There is a lot more expected of a guy defensively when he moves up to the top pairings. Priessing may be great as a two or three. However I think Eva's point (correct me if I am wrong) is that goals and good play as a #6, does not translate into success as a 2-3 dman at the same rate. For instance if he scored 10 goals and 15 assists, because he becomes the number 3 d-man he is not all of the sudden going to have 20 goals and 30 assists because of the ice time. He has to become a lot more respinsible defensively, because he will be facing top line talent.

I am not sure we NEED another veteran D-man but I would feel a whole hell of a lot better with one. Rafalski would be awesome, rafalski and hamrlik would be a wet dream!!
-
Good Grief this deal is harder to keep track of than doing a rubix cube!!

QFT Amen, if the wings some how get a home team discount with this guy and manage to sign him for a penny less than 5 mil it is a steal!!!!

Cool I just remember hearing stories about how they had to sneak Fetisov out under cloak during some tournament or something like that. -

Not being a dick and trying to point out errors, but I thought Fetisov was the one who paved the way for the Russians. If not I have been telling lies so some one please straighten me out! -
I think for the league it is a no gain no loss type of thing, however for individual teams I think it is a big risk. You can make this trade and not end up signing the player, then you have given up a draft choice, just to say you talked to the player. Risky Business!!

That brings up a good point, the numbers allowed into the hall came up in an era when there were a lot less teams and therefore a lot less players. As we get into an era with more and more guys have deserving numbers, it brings up an interesting question. Should the Hall expand the number of people allowed in a year, or allow players more years of eligibility. You have to look at the players with eligibility getting ready to expire and the players whose eligibility has just started. -
Harold: Didn't think you were calling him greedy but many have in their posts. You and I differ on opinions from time to time, but at least you can debate with out calling me names, and you actually back up what you say with facts.

First off and foremost, I never saw him fight like that for the B's!! Alright so the first clip was the only fight that he didn't try to tackle the guy after throwing two punches, the fight against beau... hell the guy from Anaheim, he tried to tackle him and he failed. I also don't think that the last fight is the only one he didn't win, most of the others were barely fights and broken up by the refs. He looked like the guy from Dazed and Confused who thinks the fight will only go one punch and then it will get broken up. Only difference is when the refs don't step in he goes for the tackle. I am all for finding a guy who can stand up for his teammates, but at what cost, 2.95 for a guy who can hit and fight, hell lets throw 2.5 at Worrell and see if that works out for the wings. The wings need a guy who can score and make plays first, fight second, that is just how the team plays. No way Holland wastes a spot on the roster for a fighter. I am not saying he is not a good player or that he won't help some team, however at that price tag and what he brings to the table I would rather have Lilja. You can not compare what he would do for a team like Pheonix to what he would do for a team like Detroit. I think we all would agree that Detroit plays a much different game then most of the league. I highly doubt that you will see a guy on this team with 80+ PIM's for a long time, unless the refs keep changing their minds on what is and is not a penalty. And I think Detroit proved this year they are not soft, they did not break against Calgary who was dirty, cheap, and very physical, they didn't break against a team like San Jose who was very physical and tried to beat the piss out of the wings. And I don't think it was Anaheim's physical play that beat them as much as a combo of Giggy and the ineffectiveness of the pp. It is my opinion that he would not be a good fit on this team, it is yours he would. Seeing as the thread is about opinion, I am not asking you to change yours, just stating mine!

I think that Regehr at 2 mil as oppossed to Boynton at 2.95 would work out better for the wings, but I like how you are thinking. I am starting to think more and more that Schnieds will do a big deal else where. Hell it worked for Timmonen, the wings will need to resign Markov and another 3-4 Dman or sign two 3-4 dmen. I think Kronwall should be made to shadow Chelios, at his restaurant, at home, with his wife, with his kids, working out, doing whatever cheli does. He would be better off learning to play like Cheli then trying to be lids or a hitter like D hatcher.

I find it funny that people call him greedy without any evidence to back it up, but can come up with 5-10 different reasons why my analogy doesn't work, but can't dispute the facts. Blind, on the other hand disputed the facts. Blind: You are right the demand for him on the market right now is not high, however it is for Schneider, and he is getting s*** on for being greedy, when a defenseman who is below his abilities gets a huge payday. The only interest in him is the wings you are correct, however their interest is very very high, because they do need the stop gap. So he pretty much has them by the short hairs and is asking for the same amount of money as the following starting netminders: Ryan Miller (clearly will make a lot more in two years when his contract is up) Cristobal Huet Andrew Raycroft Dan Cloutier Curtis Joseph (this years numbers) Manny Legace Just another tidbit for you Ozzie is making 800k and some of you want Hasek to start for this team at 200-700k more a year, are they really that close in ability. Regardless of age he has shown he can get the job done and be an elite goalie.
