Hasek expected to sign by end of week.

Why doesn't anyone think he is already sacrificing??? Think with you brain and not so much your Red Wings heart, trust me I know it can be hard. How much of a sacrifice did Lids make with his contract, Datsyuk? Do you expect Zetterberg to sign with Detroit for 3 mil when his contract is up? If Hasek can play like this year he easily deserves 2.5, especially seeing as he played for peanuts last year and was one of the top five netminders in the league. I understand your point, but that comment was more meant at people who were saying he is greedy.

So when you get close to retirement age and it comes time for you annual review at work are you going to tell your boss that you would be willing to work for half of the money you deserve to help the company get better, more productive workers. Even though you just had a year where you were top 5 in you division, company, office, field, etc. ? No you are going to want to make your fair market value or be really pissed off about it. Here is the difference, Hasek is already asking for under his fair market value. As pointed out by many posters already, after last year he deserves more than 2.5 million. Let's take Giggy, we can all say that Hasek played better than Giggy in the regular season right? How much was Giggy just signed for? Granted he is younger, but in a what have you done for me lately sports atmosphere, Dom by all rights deserves the same money or more! I said it before Dom is not greedy, if he gets hurt in the middle of the season I fully expect him to give up the remainder of his salary like he did a couple of years ago!!

    Coyotes Shopping Nick Boynton

That would be an improvement over Lilja, IMHO. This is a guy with an edge, a physical game, and he still has half the PIM's of Boynton. I haven't seen as much of Regehr as I did Boynton, but what I have seen shows me he has a good game in his own zone and can help on the O side of things a little too. A good solid defensive defenseman. 5-6

    Bowman turns Leafs down

I love Scotty for what he DID for this team, he changed this franchise, however if he left to help Toronto I would not be upset. If he wants to go through the hell of rebuilding a franchise good luck to him!!

Holland: Hard desicions must be made.

D'oh my bad thought you were talking in general, so then their price tag will stay the same unless some other team does something stupid like pay a guy like Timonen out the nose. Oh s*** that already happened!!

    Tom Preissing... UFA

This may be completely way off base, I am using my not so good memory to go into the way back machine..... Didn't Scotty pair his younger D-men with Lids to give them more experience and also cover up some of their inadequacies. I know he wasn't huge on young guys, but I seem to remember him using lids as a way to break in some of the weaker or lesser d-men. My point is could Babcock do a similar thing with this team if they don't sign Markov or Schneider. Pair the other with Chelios and let a guy like Quincey, Lebda, or Lilja learn from the master.

Holland: Hard desicions must be made.

Actually it is usually the opposite the longer some one is a UFA the more their price tends to drop. Like it was stated in another thread, the guys that are picked up in the first couple of days will get their asking price then guys will lower their prices. Some don't and end up getting what they want in the end and some wait and end up getting a lot less.

Good point Harold this is the same guy who left 3 mil on the table under his own free will, Holland didn't even know he was going to do that. Dom is the least greedy Wings player, who knows about NHLers but at least in this org he is.

I think the fact that Chelios signed for another year has given Kenny the ability to not need Scheinder, if Chelios had retired I think you would have seen Kenny jump all over him.

    Dustin Penner?

LOL you know what I meant!!! Change it from unlimited to incredible, but he wings should sign him for 4mil 12 years that way if in his thirties he becomes a Bert instead of Shanny they can get rid of him. LOL

    Dustin Penner?

If there were a snowballs chance in hell that this could happen, Kenny should be on it like white on rice!!! This kid has unlimited potential, and is a force tobe reckoned with. He really needs to work with some one to develop his hands, if he could learn a little bit more advanced puck handling other than that he is a gem, and could probably be had for a good price. However if Burke lets this guy walk I will have lost even more respect for him.

    Coyotes Shopping Nick Boynton

How much of Nick Boynton have you actually watched? How many of his games did you actually sit through? I was not using his stats to base my opinion on, I was using them to show you that he is not better than Lilja. When Boynton was in Beantown, I got to watch everyone of his games. He is overrated and overpaid. You want more than stats, he is slower than Lilja. He really doesn't fight all that much. The only upside he has on Lilja is that he is 3 years younger than Lils. I am not a huge Lilja supporter but I have seen enough Nick Boynton to know that he is not better. So maybe I worded my other post wrong.... Boynton is a Push at best and IMO a downgrade from Lilja. BTW how is more PIM's a positive? On a funny note I was looking up his scouting report notice the contradiction Assets: Plays a physical game and loves a heavy workload. Is extremely reliable in the defensive zone. Is a very smooth skater and excellent puck-handler. Possesses a hard, accurate shot from the point. Flaws: May not put up the points expected of him at the NHL level, unless he starts hitting the net with his shots more frequently. How can he have an accurate shot as an asset yet his flaw is he can't hit the net??????? What???

Boynton is not as good as people think, he was OK in Boston, and then average after that. As stated above he is making a lot of dinero!! All I have to say: 59GP 2G 9A 11PT -13- 138 PIM 16:48 ATOI I know being on a better team would help him however if you compare him to Lilja's stats he is a downgrade: 57GP 0G 5A 5PT +6 54PIM 15:25 ATOI No one on the wings team had more than 66 PIM (according to ESPN) and that was Lang, do the wings need some one that is going to average that many PIMs. The only times in his career he has had under 90 PIMS he played 5 and 1 games in that season.

    Emery's Wrist Surgery

Story on ESPN I have no experience with wrist injuries, but I remember ozzie's hand injury, it took him awhile to get back to form, is there a possibility that Ottawa will need to pick up a goalie, or do you guys think they will go with Gerber to start the season? Or will he be fine opening day? The article just says it is for torn tendons, I have to imagine that if this is his glove hand he may not be as good as he was last year, at least to start the season. Didn't see this posted on the first two pages sorry if it is a dup!

wings should go after iginla next off season

Welll Demitra from last year had the following stats: gp 71 G 25 A 39 64 pts That would have made him 4th in goals 4th in assists and 3rd in points on last years wings team. I would have taken that, and that is with Gaborik only playing 48 games. But it is all until next year anyways.

    Latest from Shanny

I think Shanny gets a lot of credit for the 3 cups because he was the final piece that put the team over the top. The years leading up to him the D was built up, players like Federov came up through the system, and the team was on the cusp. Then Shanny filled the last remaining void. So lots of times people say he was the missing link, when he was imho the last piece to the puzzle that was being built for years.

I got to tell you if it weren't for my grandfather hating the Bruins when I was a kid, he was a laughs fan, I wouldn't be a Wings fan. I watched a lot of games in the 80's on his floor watching on the French channels. Watching this #19 guy play his ass off while his team sucked. I started to like him and my grandfather (pepere for those of you French Canadians like me) would constantly remind me, he will be nothing, his team sucks, he will be stuck there to rot. If only he had lived to eat his words!!

Using your logic about centers the wings can now let Flip or Draper man the second line because they have Datsyuk on the First line as center. I will have to disagree on that part. Guerin was a mistake, it is not like they couldn't have offered him the money he got. They are a cheap organization that fills one line with good to decent players with the occasional great (thornton, allison) and then expects guys like Stanislov Chistov, PJ Axelsson, Brandon Bochenski, Shean Donovan, Mark Mowers, and Chuck Kobesew to carry the load. Phil Kessel, Mark Savard, and Patrice Bergereon will all be out of Beantown within 3 years unless the org makes a drastic change in the way they handle the team. Especially if they are going to change coaches every year. I am not a Dave Lewis fan but come on, you give a guy skunk piss and expect him to make fine wine out of it you cannot hold him liable!!

Who will Savard have next year, he was making unbelievable passes that guys like Marco Sturm were on the receiving end of, no offense to Marco Sturm but he is not the second coming of Gretzky. I guarantee you if you put Savard on Det second line he gets more points, Just think about it, put Savard in Lang's spot, do you think he would get more points? Savard played his ass off don't get me wrong. When the B's signed him I thought he would be screwed without Heatly and Kovalchuk but he proved he is a great set up man. However in Boston, because Chara usually picks fights with weaker non fighters Savard had to step up and stand up for his teammates (not fighting but getting in the tussels and hitting guys who were making dirty plays). Murray, similar thing, it is not that he is not performing, as much as he is on the decline and cannot be there #1 option anymore, but here is another scenario. You put Murray in Homer's spot on Det top line and he scores easily 40+, however with guys knowing he is Savard's only option he doesn't get clean looks and started taking shots from some weird angles. Stats are great but they don't tell all of the story. I am not bashing the players here and I know that is what my first post read like (after I re-read it) however the org needs to do a better job with talent, how many times can they act as a farm team for others. Thornton had finally become what everyone said he would be, he was fighting, he was grinding, he was scoring, he was setting up goals, and all were happy. Until Stuart, Sturm, and Primeau came along. Three guys who combined can barely carry Joe's jock. And remember it is not like they lost him in free agency because they couldn't pay him. They just didn't want to pay him the contract he had! Bad deals or non deals by the B's Thornton Guerin Allison Lapointe to name a few.

Toivonen will never be an NHL starter, or if he is the team he starts for will not be very good. He has a painfully slow glove hand and doesn't appear to be mentally tough, he tends to let in weak goals once he makes a mistake. Watching the Bruins netminders this last season was painful, you have Tim Thomas, who btw is the stereotypical goalie the wings can't win against, he is horrible position wise, and diving all over the place, getting lucky. Then you have Toivonen who is supposed to be the future and he is struggling to be the backup. Bergereon on the other hand is a diamond in the rough and therefore will be traded out of boston in 3 years tops!!! Unless they get new management. As great as Savard played last year, he will not be the player he can be until he has a legit first line player with him. Murray has slowed down, and last year missed the net a lot.
