Wow 2010 is turning out to be a bad year for ex-Wings not named Yzerman! Get well soon!
-
Ok, well then since you changed from Star player to a future player, whom would the Wings lose in the signing of Modano who is not a gamble themselves? Ritola? Sure Modano is a gamble, he could show his age and turn out to be a horrible decision for Holland, he also could turn out to be a 40 point producer who gives the wings a serious third line. And the cost to make that move would quite simply be to let Ritola walk. Ritola could be a 40 point producer, highly unlikely, he could also turn out to be a career AHLer. Both are a gamble. It is not like they would be losing Tatar, Nyquist, or Ferraro, whom look to be the top forward prospects. And when they are ready (Tatar could be this coming season, could be next year) would be of more value to the Wings than Ritola, Meech, or Kindl (IMO). It is not like Abby or Helm are going to have to walk in order to make room for Modano.

I am hoping for either Hnidy or McKee with no particular favorite of the two, well maybe Hnidy because I saw more of him playing for the B's. Hnidy is a tough SOB and that is what Holland said he wanted. Hnidy on the third pairing would be nice, so I guess Hnidy over McKee, maybe I do have a preference after all!

Drafting first or second overall, What? Are you nuts? What player did the Wings give up that is a star? Quincey, he is not exactly Lids now is he. He is a decent 3-4 d-man, maybe top pairing on a team weak in the top 2. Flieschman? Who has become a STAR that the wings let go? What top 50 player have the Wings let get away from them via trade or before they were a UFA?

I get the Jackie Robinson in Baseball retiring, the man did something that was a huge step forward in both Baseball and the culture of America at the time. But you don't see baseball retiring the #'s 3,7 or basketball #23. Wayne is known as the best to play the game, retiring his number across the league was dumb, and should not have been done. What did he do for the teams he didn't play for, it is not like he was one of the first to fight for the players union, or took a stance for players salary. He was just the best to play the game.

According to some NHL sources I find this hard to believe, really hard to believe.

CHI just adds some toughness. Signs John Scott to a two-year contract. Sorry direct quote from Bob McKenzie

Any more insight on Bobby Ryan turning down the 5 year 25 mil deal, I know he wants three years, but any thing new on that?

Hey the sun shines on a dogs ass from time to time!

Whatever we disagree with on other topics this will always be one of my favorite post you have ever made, I refrain from making this statement here because usually people point out one or two bad plays. It is like after losing to ANA in the WCF and making a compliment about Lilja, you got hosed for it! Stuart has been imo one of KH's best acquisitions, without a doubt!

NO the longest losing streak was 5 that season!
-
What was the reason in late November early december, when Flip and Cleary were still healthy, before the D took a beating? All I am saying is to say injuries is the only reason is an excuse, imo. A Jimmy Howard playing out of his head really helped make that run at the end of the season.
-
The season before when Mule and Z were out as well as either Lids or Kronwall (can't remember which) Hossa and Pavel carried the team for stretches. Last season a hot Howard carried the team and a very solid to great Stuart played some great D at stretches. All I am saying is injuries is not the only reason the Wings slipped in the standings, having no offensive depth hurt as well. EDM was s*** before the injuries, so being #1 in man games lost did not hurt them. One injury can derail some teams, while others have depth which allows them to keep pace, CHI put themselves in a situation where this year they have no depth to deal with injuries much like the Wings last year. The difference is the Wings had a full roster.
-
About which part? Sure the Wings were 3rd in man games lost, and there was a stretch where they were starting AHLers but again they are not the first nor only team to deal with injuries.
-
Bruins grab J. Reich no terms released other than 1 year Injuries happen to every team every year. Look at the goal totals from last season as compared to the year before, to say injuries are the only reason the Wings dropped in the standings imo is being a little to rosy! Plus when was the last time Franzen played a full season? You have to plan on him missing a few months each year, at least that is the pattern he is developing.
-
And the Wings went from Pres trophy contender to almost out of the playoffs, remember the jump to fifth took one hell of a run at the end!
-
Any confirmation on this one? I left for a while and don't feel like scrolling through the TSN frenzy. Nothing on their tracker list.
-
My numbers were based off of needing a 21 man roster, that is probably why my numbers are askew!
-
TSNBobMcKenzie: Tony Lydman to Anaheim at $3M per year for three years. Done deal.
-
Very true, their offense needs a winger badly, but not a Pens fan so I am meh on their day, still have two of the top 10 players in the game up front.
-
4.093 to spend and minimum of 8 players to sign. 511,000 per player.
-
When a guy like Gonchar comes off of the books the cap drops dramatically, much like the day Lids hangs them up that is 7 mil in cap space right there.
-
Martin deal 5 years 5 mil a year confirmed
-
Do you guys think the Wings are Boogard's 1.65 4 year team??
-
Take the Hossa deal for example: 7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900 4.000 1.000 1.000 0.750 0.750 Works out to a 5.223 per year hit, the last few years have to drop down drastically for it to work. Which is why the league has rules to prevent it from dropping too much. For instance it can not go from 7.9 to 1.0, I believe it can't be more than a third of the previous years contract.
