Can you please find where it says he doesn't want to play here. All I can find is that DET can not pay him right now. He is/was going to arbitration like many many other RFA's. When it looked like Det was not going to give him what he felt he went to the KHL. IF he really didn't want to be a Wing he would be pulling a Phil Kessel and waiting to see what other teams want to give him. Question as Jiri was an RFA what is his raise supposed to be?

The other threads on this have quotes or maybe in this thread where Hudler specifically says he wanted to play for Det only in the NHL. His agent mentions that KHL offers have always been out there for him. He even said himself (again quotes are in the threads around here) that this could be a way for him to get better and come back with better skill. The part you bolded is my assumption of what is going to happen, and it was more to point out that he is not deserting the Wings, just finding another option as option 1a) signing with the Wings looks out of the realm of possibilities.

The reason Huds is going to Russia is he didn't want to play anywhere else in the NHL, but Det couldn't pay him what he was owed. Let me reiterate, the man is going to the KHL because the only team in the NHL he wants to play for is DETROIT! He is going to KHL to help the team and prevent himself from playing elsewhere. Holland is saying 4 years or 5 years to Jiri's agent letting his agent pick, however at most the cap hit can be what 2 mil a year. He is way too young to take a contract with the last 3 years being 1 mil, unless it is a 15 year deal and he has not reached that point in his career yet. He is leaving the NHL because he and the team cannot come to terms, most players in that situation and at his age and skill level take a deal from another NHL team and go there. Huds is going to the KHL for 2 years with hopes of returning to the Wings. He is not deserting the team!

A small reworking of the top 6 to something like: ZDCleary Mule Flip Leino You have two very good lines, one is a shutdown line and needs a shutdown line to stop them, the other is a very good 2nd line with 2 PROVEN players and one with a ton of potential. The back 6 just got a lot weaker I will give you that, but they got better in different areas, they may not score as much as last years third line but a line of Helm Draper UFA (say Moen) and fourth Maltby UFA(Say Yelle) Homer Can be had and would be a damn good defense team. Others say it is the opposite and that Hunwick's number is being put off to let Kessel realize he won't get what he thinks. I think the benching of him, even though for the better of his hockey career, really pissed him off and he wants OUT!

I have a great outlook going into the season and you may think I am a fool, or insane, or not a real fan. But after the past 3 years if the Wings make the playoffs, honestly I am happy. NO one in the salary cap era makes 3 deep runs like that and has the ability to keep their group together and let alone continue to seek out high end UFA's. Most teams build for the cup and then collapse after it. Either due to losing players or through losing steam after 9 months of hockey including 3 months of intense playoff hockey. I have complete faith in the Red Wings, it is very similar to rooting for the Red Sox. The new front office has shown that no matter what, they want to win and they are always trying to get better (rumored to be interested in Halladay). You give them a pass, you are more willing to look at injuries and fatigue as explanations of losses when you team has won 2 championships in the last 7 years (Wings, 5 for Sox). Now The C's they better turn their s*** around, one championship year after a disastrous year and then a decent year does not make me a happy fan, I want more. Football is different, I root for the pats, but I am more of a football fan due to fantasy sports than I am football itself. I still prefer college pigskin to pro.
