Leino I hope and it would be nice if Helmer made it too but that would have to be based on him being a complete badass and checking everything that steps on the ice, including those goddamn ice girls!
-
To me this is an avenue the league should explore, if you draft a guy you should get a discount to keep him. This would put them ahead of the curve as even the Capologists in the NFL haven't come up with this yet. Good press for the NHL as they are ahead of the curve on something, why do that?
-
And this helped the problem how? Great post, how long before a mod deletes it? 3 minutes is my guess!
-
Which means that the Hawks have about 6 mil to spend on the rest of its roster, that is not enough to sign any of their free agents unless they take a massive, and I mean 50% pay cut.
-
mainly because Basketball put it in and all that did was circumvent the cap. The Celtics for example have 0 cap space, but are signing players left and right because the fee is right. For instance if they sign a guy for 2 mil over the cap it is 2 mil to the player and 2 more to the PA. For an org with as much money as the C's that means nothing. Especially when you throw in the rules with Veteran minimum offers that count differently. Anything the NBA does the NHL should stay away from, like the lottery!

Egroen ftw!

ME, they should sign a 32 year old who is now almost 3 years removed from surgery to repair a smashed Tibial Platuea, torn meniscus, and torn PCL, with chronic shoulder and back problems I have a horrible shot, can't skate to worth a hill of beans and am probably the most uncoordinated white guy you have ever seen. However the I have Red Hair and soon the Wings are going to need another Red head.
-
Gotcha. sorry I will reread now! Sorry but I cannot get past this sentence: To me you are saying that the wings are now going to lose more games than they won last year. Thus basically turning their record around making them the worst team in the league. Did you mean, they will lose more of the close games they were able to pull out?
-
I stopped reading when you claimed the Wings will now lose more games than they won!

In that 10 are included Abby, not getting a big raise, Helm, not getting a big raise. Top 5 forwards are signed, Lids is as committed as one can get and will take a pay cut. So Detroit has roughly 6-7 Million to sign 7 players. If Abby is making over 1 mil next year than even less worries because that means he tore it up this year! The Hawks will need either 2 top 3 forwards or will need 1 top 3 and 1 top 2 D-men. Plus a real NHL goalie, the one they have now got pulled, the guy who took them to the WCF is gone! That is my point, not that Det has millions and millions to spend, that they have more cushion and are in much better shape next year. Detroit always lives at the cap, Holland and Illitch and co. are used to dealing with cap problems as they normally are up against it on purpose and they are very rarely players at the deadline for a huge move. Holland also hasn't f-ed up QO offers, let alone recently. The circumstances are about as different as it can be. 6-7 million to sign a couple of 5-6 d-men and 4th liners (as in Maltby and Homer's replacements) will not cost 2 million a piece nor the 6 mil that CHI free agents are likely to get. Detroit will once again fill out it roster with some where in the range of .5 - 2 mil in space or maybe less, but year after year they have filled out the roster with little to no room. It will happen again. EDIT: I still can't find 10 players to sign? Too me it is 8 minimum. 13+8=21

I am always up for learning new things, care to explain that.

Where did Keith come from? Serious question, I thought they drafted him high? WOW 54th my bad!

Oh I am not saying concern is not valid, I have concerns, but the freaking out on this board is over the top, not you, others. Saying that, Brunnstrom went from Euro ice to NHL, Leino went Euro ice to AHL to develop the game. I think that is the biggest difference in the Wings system, none of the rookies are ever stereotypical rookies, and I also think that is part of the "Detroit Drafts like no one else" aura. Everyone looks at the guys who make the NHL roster, how many guys bomb out in GR and never make it to the league, more than do I am wagering. But because they are not failing on the NHL level it is sort of looked over. Cleary will be the most important Red Wing not name Lidstrom, Datsyuk, or Zetterberg. Dan won't be able to be a role player who kicks in anymore, the contributions he made last year that was extra, is going to be needed from him. I am a little concerned about that seeing as the last time he was counted on was really before he wore the Winged Wheel. I mean his post season play eases my worries but still, he will be counted on this year big time!

I see what you did there, Translation of Crymson's post: He is lazy and wait for it.... wait for it..... SUCKS! ©

And your feeling of insecurity about being blatantly wrong moved you to post this reply. Instead of being mature and saying "Oh, my bad" you feel the need to be "Supercool Internet guy that will post whatever he wants because I am SUPERCOOL!" Read the forum before posting. Is it better because I am not a rookie, same message, read the f-ing board!

They better trade Campbell for a stay at home D-man. Playing 4 guys in the o-zone will suck when it is Huet or Crawford back there. Making it to the WCF was great, however how many teams make it back the next year. Sure this year two teams did, but that is rare. Their offense imo, needed no help, Hossa is as much overkill there as he was in Detroit. They need D badly, and as it is now they are probably going to lose Sopel in order to sign Hossa and Kopecky. One less solid defender. BTW where are all the people that s*** on the Pens for having the team built by the draft by sucking for years, Chi anyone?
-
If Leino is on either line 1 or 2 he will pot 20. Playing with either or both D and Z he will pot at least 20. Playing with Mule and Fil he will pot 18-22. Line three I would see him putting in 12-15. He has great offensive instincts, on line one (which is where I see Cleary BTW) he would absolutely rake with Dats and Z. However if Babs goes big on line one and stacks it with ZD Mule, that 2nd line will suffer as Mule and Flip have great chemistry. Abby and Helm I would be surprised if they netted 10 a piece, although Abby does look a little like Brandon Bochenski a nose for the right part of the ice.

Well lets see the differences: -the Wings went into cap Purgatory knowing that Hossa was one year done, not 12 years. -the Hawks also added Kopy not on the cheap. -the Wings are against the cap this year, so is Chi. Next year Det has 16 m to work with, Chi has how much? -Detroit Free agents next season: Maltby Lidstrom Homer Lilja Meech Lebda One player in that list will be retained Lids, maybe Lilja and Homer as well. Either way not going to touch the 16m they have -Chi free agents next season with about 12 mil left (not including bonuses I believe, nhl numbers is a touch of I think) Kane Toews Madden Ladd Burrish Fraser Keith Crawford Chi has exactly 1 metminder (highly overpriced netminder) and 4 D men and 8 forwards signed going into next season, 3 of those are franchise guys. Lets say they are dumb and take a discount, that puts the 2 forwards in Dats' pay range, and Keith should get about around 5. That is about 17 mil for them next season in 3 players, 1 m more than Det has in free room. Get that Chi is going to sign 3 players to the cap space that Det has and det will probably only spend 12 of that, unless they chase another 1 year free agent. You really don't see the differences, sure Holland hamstrung the Wings against the cap for a year. Here is the difference between Holland and other GMs Holland lost none of his core group to get Hossa for one year. Tallon risks losing 2 of 3 of his future faces and 2 of 5 of his core players. You still don't see a difference? Not only that, but because he forgot to fax his QO's he is further up against the cap after signing Eager, Versteeg, and Barker. Before we start comparing what Holland has done to what Tallon is doing lets make sure Tallon belongs in the same sentence as Holland unless to say: Holland's GM skills just took a shat on Tallon's!

I love reading repeats, it is like watching all of my favorite shows on TBS!

Hell of a lot of panic going on here, is it the playoffs already? Where is the panic button!!

800k is too much you do realize the minimum is like 500k right

At less than 2.5 (meaning .500 for the other forward) if Huds leaves the Wings are not replacing him with a top 6 forward unless that forward's name is Ville Leino. Just not happening, they will add depth to the 3-4th lines and hope Leino is really top 6 ready. DZ Cleary/Leino Mule Flip Cleary/Leino Although I would Rather DZ Leino/Flip Mule Helm Cleary/Flip EDIT: I guess I should explain a rookie center on my second line huh? I just love the thought of Helm Mule and Cleary forechecking for 35-40 seconds and then again in another 4 minutes over and over again all night. That my friend is a line made of forecheckers, with a scoring touch (sans Helm)

Again very very ture, but maybe the offer didn't come until Dynamo heard he filed for arbitration and they thought, s*** here is our chance! I know less about this than you probably do, but just saying he is not being childish, which you and I agree on, well apparently we have agreed on just about everything, but there are a ton of extenuation circumstances in this deal some brought up in this thread and then some we have no clue about. Maybe they promised a family member or loved one a job, told him his best friend from Czech can come on the team as well, (Hossa Kopy) who knows.

Because everyone wants to play in Detroit for less than half of their market value! /sarcasm!
