I have no hard feelings toward Shanny, he knew exactly when to walk away from this team, he knew that his staying would inhibit the teams ability to move forward towards its next set of championships. His team first attitude it was had him walking away, sure he could have stayed a wing until he was no longer of any use (looking at you Malts) and the team would have given him the same loyalty they have others before him. He was able to see that Dats and Z were ready to take over and that they never really could as long as he was around. Or at least that is how it appeared to me, so I have no ill will towards Shanny at all, having said that I do not want him coming back to the Wings. I know it is the thing on this board to want every former wing back, but a 39 year old Shanny is not what this team needs, a 39 year old Dallas Drake (edit: from the post season) is a different story all together!

Sure but Raycroft is 2-2 with an .886 sv% and the team is 5-4-0, you honestly don't see Ozzie as better than Raycroft, honestly!

If he isn't stealing the games who is, the team has 3 losses and 7 wins, not the other way around. Your posts make it seem like you expect them to go undefeated and win every game 5-1 from the preseason until the end of the season. The D is struggling, Ozzie has made saves and even won a game or two in the shootout, well what in the hell is stealing a game if stoning 2 people in the shoot out for the win isn't? You said he wasn't stealing games, you said he should be able to steal a few I believe was a direct quote. If he didn't steal any of the wins, what was there for him to steal?

A win is a win is a win, unless you don't like the way it was won?

So being 7-1-2 doesn't constitute stealing a few? Sorry Oz is not 7-1-2 he is 4-1-2

Thank you for telling me what to expect. The D is bad, team wise not just the 6 d-men, the PP and the Offense are about the only thing working right now. Too many pks, way too many for this team. But sure lets blame the 7-1-2 record on him, wait we are blaming some one for being 7-1-2 or are we giving them credit, I can't tell because the record says, we are finding a way to win. I guess the other blame Ozzie thread wasn't good enough for you?

Listen for all the steroids in baseball I haven't see a baseball player throw a real punch since Nolan Ryan put a hurting on Robin Ventura. No one gets hurt in baseball fights, just like no one throws a real punch with any intent, it is more like the fight in Dazed in Confused where the nerd thinks he can punch the cool kid and before the fight gets to far it will be stopped so he won't get his ass kicked.

Good point and to piggy back off of that idea, what about a guy like Abdelkader. Sure one fight and a couple of good games are not going to make him Milan Lucic or Shanny, but in the same aspect is another year in GR going to turn him into Shanny or Lucic? I can't imagine they view him as a future top 6 forward, maybe they do, but if he is being groomed to be a 3rd or 4th liner anyway, those are the minutes he will see in 2 years, 3 years, or 1 week. I will admit I have not been Maltby's biggest fan for a while now, but if Abdelkader can hack it on the 4th line now, why not. Again not sure if Babs thinks he can hack it or not, just saying.

What is this Calm rationale thought??? Surely you jest!! OK on the serious side, you guys and others have it right, what is always the most important is wins and losses. Yes certain elements (not goaltending) are not up to par (otherwise known as our standards) the good news is that other aspects are picking up the D right now. And as happens in most sports there will come a time when the offense hits a snag, and true champion caliber teams find a way to win whether it be O or D that is struggling. Currently that is what they are doing, Ozzie plays great in the SO, the O does its best to score, this team may not be firing on all cylinders, but hey they are winning, for now good enough in my book, as long as they find a way to win. Now if they were 3-4-2 or 1-7-1 something along those lines than yes I see it as a problem, because the team is not finding a way to win and therefore relying on the D to win them games. Right now they are winning as a team and hopefully the D will right the ship.

I agree 100% both Bure and Moginly had their careers cut short by injury, but Bure, man that guy was going to score an amazing number of goals, he was a goal scoring machine.

Ben, Obviously that post was so well thought out that the poster had to include salary cap hit, position, level of play, BLAHHH AHAHAHAHAHA sorry I couldn't keep going. Seriously the amount of thoughtless posts that have nothing resembling realistic feasible options have hit a record high here!!! Back to the topic at hand: Holland is hamstrung right now, and Sammy may be traded to clear cap space (doubt it), Lilja may be traded to clear cap space (a little more likely), however I really think Holland is going to need to trade a player making at least 1 mil some time soon. He has basically no cushion to deal with injuries. Here is a name that not a lot of people have mentioned in possible trades (with good reason, but follow my logic): Cleary, at this point in time he is underused on this team, granted he is not complaining nor do I think he is playing badly. He could step in on most 2nd lines in the league and would clear a bunch of space. Don't get me wrong I really like having Cleary on the team, but he would garner a pretty nice pick in return, or at least a good prospect. I just can't see Holland and Co being this hamstrung by the cap all season.

I am sorry Getslaf over Savard, come on. I know this board loves him because he is North American Grit/toughness grrrr but come on, Savard is on a similar level to Dats when it comes to setup, something Getslaf is no where near!
