Rafalski's contract kills the Wings. If Lidstrom and Rafalski were making 4 million a season each (which they should be next year), the Wings would have 5 million more to sign another good forward.

Yah, and I did the same thing to Yzerman when he started costing the Team wins. I'm not a fan of the players first, team 2nd. It's the other way around for me. I'm a fan of the Detroit Red Wings. If a player or coach is helping the team win games, then I'm a fan of them too. If they are hurting the team, yah, then I want them off the team. I'm not saying Holmstrom is a bad guy or should be kicked to the curb. I'm just saying that the coaching staff and general management shouldn't let him hurt the team.

I would just like to see them make the obvious changes that need to be made. Line tinkering and chemistry is all fine and dandy, but if you're playing players who hurt the team in 5 on 5 situations, then you're not going to win.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the Red Wings will have to be in "Playoff Hockey" mode this whole season? The announcers have said similar things in a few of the games, but this is going to be a challenging year watching the Red Wings battle during the regular season. We're all used to them being on coast during the regular season, so I wonder how we're all going to hold up watching a bunch of nail biters. Or do you think that other players will make up for the scoring from Hossa, Hudler, Sammy, and Franzen? That's a big void if you ask me.

Nope. Just time to bench some of our crappy, overpaid players (Rafalski, Holmstrom). If you guys haven't started watching how bad Rafalski is for this team, start. This guy isn't worth 2 million a season, let alone 6. He's week in the corners, slow in transition, and a big ZERO in team leadership/inspiration. The guy has power play value, but his 5 on 5 effectiveness is in the minus category. I wish the Wings could unload him first. He's a waste of money.

Watch the game again. Watch who's on the ice while the other team is cycling and draws the penalty. Yep. You guessed it. Ninety-Sux. The guy stinks 5 on 5. Watch the games, bro.

I agree. It's going to be interesting to see the way Babcock juggles the kids (Helm/Abdelkader/Kindl) with the vets (Maltby/May/Eaves). I would rather have the kids play 50/50 until the last 20 games and then have the vets finish the regular season. Then bring the kids back in after the first round of the playoffs.

Exactly. That's all I'm saying. I just think there will be a lot more intensity per game than we've seen in the past. The Wings are beatable when they don't bring it. In the past, they could squeak by on nights where they weren't on their A game. Now, I don't think so.
