How's that? A puck bounced off the boards. Big deal. Fleury fumbled it. Oh well. It's not like the Red Wings can erase the fumbles of Fleury and tell the refs that they only want to win off of perfectly clean goals. Nope.

I can still picture Coffey lying on his side after blocking a puck. I'm thinking to myself: "Get up! Get up, you *****. Get up and get back in the play." He lies there 5 seconds longer than any other player in the NHL would have and BAM. Devils goal. That was the most pissed I've ever been watching a Red Wings game.

!!! I was thinking in my head: "Calm down, 71. You didn't really make a good play there, but we'll spot you that one. Just don't make a mess in your jock like you just solved world hunger or something."

I don't think this is quite accurate. I think a team can "Buy Out" contracts and then restructure them. The problem is that the buyout figure goes against the cap. For instance, Lidstrom has a buyout figure of 2.5 million or so on his contract. Thus, if the Wings are going to lower his cap it for 2009-10, his total cap hit in the new contract can't be above 5 million or so. The league won't allow a player of his calibur to sign for that type of discount. There is no way to keep Hossa unless the cap goes up to 62 million. Wings fans need to get used to him being gone after this season.

Yah, and Malkin almost creamed himself. The Pens get a goal and it's like they've knocked the Berlin Wall down. The Wings know what's up.

That picture of Nick with the Cup with the Penguin fans in the background looking like kids who just got their lunch money stolen = PWNED!!!

Even if Pittsburgh's posts go in, and both games go into overtime, there's still a good chance the Wings are up 2-0. It's stupid to say the only reason the Wings won is because they got good breaks. 6-2 goal differential. That's more than luck.

2020 Red Wings Helm - C Filppula - A Ericsson - A
-
you know how they have those youtube videos of good stickhandlers (Crosby, Datsyuk, etc) doing crazy things in practice while playing keepaway? I'd like to see a Devereaux one! That would be the shortest video EVER! forehand to backha.... wait, there goes the puck.

The Wings haven't even played well for 60 minutes yet against the Pens. That's the scary thing. Wait til they put a full game together. 5 or 6 goals.
-
The Wings have played very inconsistently for the first 2 games, and they've still managed to stifle the Penguins. So how the hell is Pittsburgh going to stack up against the Wings when the Red Wings actually get their legs back and play a full 60 minutes of good hockey? I can't believe people think the Wings are going to lose this year.

Step 1: Trade Rafalski, Holmstrom, and Lilja for picks Step 2: Lock up Hossa to the same deal Z got Step 3: Resign Hudler, Samuelsson, Leino, and Kopecky to deals that create the cap hits below Step 4: Start working on a way to keep Helm in 2010!!! Hossa (6.084) - Dats (6.7) - Filppula (3) Franzen (3.96) - Zetterberg (6.084) - Cleary (2.8) Abdelkader (.85) - Helm (.598) - Hudler (2.25) Samuelson (1.35) - Draper (1.584) - Leino (.9) Maltby (.884) Kopecky (.6) Lidstrom (7.45) - Ericsson (.9) Kronwall (3) - Stuart (3.75) Meech (.484) - Lebda (.65) Kindl (.6) Osgood (1.417) Howard (.717) Total = 56.612 million

He won't be back. Period. Broken Foot, brother. Not happening this year.

Getting a bunch of good Swedish guys helps too.

Babcock needs to crack the whip on the current cast instead of figuring out a way to get Datsyuk and Draper in there. The current squad looks impossible to beat if they can play for 60 minutes. The only knock on the Wings so far is 5-10 minute lapses in focus. The Pens have had periods of play in which they look better than the Wings. Babcock needs to just focus on shrinking those periods as much as possible with the current group, and not worry about when they can get 2 other guys back in there. The team they have now is a REALLY GOOD team.

I like Ovechkin, but that's about it.

I did see that. He's had a couple decent games in the last 3 games. My favorite play of his was the ot winner that Helm scored in game 5 of chicago series. Homer was directly responsible for that tap in, but didn't get any props on here. It slightly moved on me during that play!!!!

Mad Props.

The Red Wings will have to let go of some of their vets (Holmstrom, Samuelsson, Draper, Maltby, Chelios, McCarty) if they hope to keep the Hoss and Hudler.
-
My favorite is a Red Wings player getting slashed or hooked and the announcers calling it a "good stick".

This is accurate, I believe. He doesn't want to go out there and be 50%.

One thing I cannot understand for the life of me is how the Anaheim Ducks' goaltenders manage to gobble up shots and freeze them better than any other team in the league. I'm not trying to take any credit away from Giguere and Hiller, but why are the Ducks' goalies consistantly able to freeze pucks when the shots hit them, while other goalies we face give up rebounds all over the place? I know their goalies are great position goalies and have a great coach, but something still seems off. All the other teams we play, the pucks don't get caught up in the goalies equipmnet as much. They bounce off, fumble, rebound out to the side, etc, just like they do with Ozzie at times. With the Ducks, any shot above 6 inches just ends up in the goaltenders blanket of a jersey. I don't get why the Ducks have this advantage over the rest of the league and nothing is done about it. I got to say, it's nice to watch the Wings play Chicago and Pittsburgh because I know there's a chance of the play continuing for more than 30 seconds at a time because the goaltender isn't going to swallow every puck fired at him. Does anyone know anymore about this?

Sidney can have as many "IQ" points as he wants!!!

What nickname could be better than "the Nightmare". Pretty much sums up what he is to the opposition.
