I'm curious to see how much cap space the Wings have when the deadline arrives. These injuries should free up some room for a last minute acquisition. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wings get one of those UFA's toward the end of the year like Kariya or Jokinen. Starting the 2nd round of the playoffs: Holmstrom-Zetterberg-Franzen Jokinen-Datsyuk-Cleary Williams-Filppula-Berrtuzzi Helm-Draper-Abdelkader Lidstrom-Meech Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Rafalski Osgood Howard I like our chances.

That's a cool story. The Steelers were so awesome back then. I liked the commercial with Mean Joe Greene. You should have told him you were the kid in the commercial!
-
I'm just going by what the announcers said. They said that when the Wings did the skills competition, Fischer was 2nd or 3rd on the team in the event where they skate around the rink. I imagine it was Sergei and/or Drapes that made it ahead of him.
-
Ok, you're right. If a team went 41-0-41 and ended up with 123 points, they'd be considered a .500 team and all the fans would be terrified if they were going to make the playoffs.
-
Dude, the announcers mentioned it SEVERAL times during his tenure in Detroit. You probably didn't watch the games back then.
-
Ok, so you've decided to rewrite the NHL scoring books. OTL's are not LOSSES that count against the .500 mark. They go down as 1 point, which means the team took HALF of the points they could that game. So out of a possible 58 points, the Wings now have 33. How is 33 below half of 58? It's not. So stop with the negative semantics and come back to reality. The Wings are about to get a few HUGE shots in the arm with Filppula, Williams, and Kronwall coming back. They are also going through a stretch of games right now that aren't as difficult. I expect things to be a lot different in 2 to 3 weeks.
-
Agreed. In addition, Johan has 2 good years of sniping under his belt. Shanahan and Neely maintained their efficiency for longer stretches.
-
Well, I guess you didn't watch much hockey back then. Fischer was reported to be the 2nd or 3rd fastest guy on the team back in 01-02. It didn't look like it because he was so big, but that guy was a great skater.
-
Or how about just not posting if they don't have anything to say?
-
Yah! I was kidding. But if you think that the "Snowsqualls" would get treatment that's any better, then I'd have to disagree! Now maybe if they were the Blistering Snowsqualls. That'd be a different story.
-
Dude, I PMS when the Red Wings lose. I'm trying to deal with it in a better way.
-
"Snowsqualls"? Come on. Saginaw Slappers maybe.
-
You're right, so technically, 4th.
-
The Wings will finish in 3rd place behind the Sharks and Blackhawks when it's all said and done. I'm not worried in the slightest.

Canadian teams stink right now. Hockey is fading faster in Canada than the ice at the poles.
-
NHL enforcers are some of the coolest players I've met so far. They're a lot different when they're not playing.
-
Fischer didn't ever regain his form after his ACL tear, and it took him a year and a half to get back to 90% of how he skated before. The good news with Franzen is that he wasn't exactly hell on wheels with his skating in the first place, so this type of injury hurts him less than it does someone that utilizes good skating (Fischer). I just hope he's in the line-up when round 2 starts.
-
Would be cool to see another team in Michigan.

"And the Winner of the Tomas Kopecky trophy, awarded annually to the player who failed most miserably at fulfilling his promise but still has an NHL job, goes to .................... ___________!" Fill in the blank
-
This is the funniest post on here in a while!
-
Anyone who thinks the Wings are going to finish in 8th has to WAKE UP.
-
I'm not concerned at all. I'm just going to watch the Wings get better and like it.

I'm siding WITH you. My response was to the other poster who commented on .500 not being good enough. Assuming we go 3-1-1 over the next stretch of games (which isn't far fetched), the Wings will have a 17-11-6 record. If you asked ANYBODY on here at the start of the season if that record would be unacceptable, I think you'd find very few who would say "yes". Most would probably say that it would be a decent start, but that a strong finish would be nice to improve playoff seeding. And that's what's going to happen.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/standings.htm?type=...id=nav-stn-conf We are 6 points out of 2nd place with 50+ games left. You go ahead and panic if you want, but I like our chances even if all our good players remained out of the line-up. I REALLY like our chances if Filppula, Kronwall, Williams, and Franzen return on pace and healthy.
