    The 2008 Trade Deadline Thread

The longer this goes, the more I think we're going to get Feds and Stuart. Or possibly Feds and Foote. We'll see. I just think Sergei is in our future.

What happened, Holland? Cap space for what?

Just calm down...remember, the Bert trade was late last year so I expect that again. Around 2pm, watch for the Trade.

    Pulling an all-nighter?

lol not to be a kill joy to anyone...but does anyone really think any trades will be pulled off between like 2am and say 6 am? GM's have to sleep too ya know. lol although I am tempted to stay up as well. Watch now that I said that, a flurry of trades will happen about 4 am

Where Can I Go For Trade Info?

I agree with everyone above, and also go to mlive.com - they're extremely fast at reporting breaking news. Much quicker then the Freep or Detnews

    Hal Gill late scratch?

For being a big guy, he's not exactly physical. If the Wings get him, it better be for next to nothing.

Pronger leaves game with jaw contusion

...I had Pronger as much as the next guy/gal but ummmmm why are we wishing such pain/suffering/death upon him? lol I mean, sure I'd love to see him get the s*** kicked out of him in a game but I don't want him to die exactly

    OFFICIAL: Sundin Staying Put

Well this closes that chapter. Time to focus on Hossa Kenny!

    Can Detroit Win The Cup?

Can Detroit? If healthy, yes. If not, then no.

    how bout mike cammalari

He's too small, and not what this team needs. They need someone with size and scoring touch (Sundin/Hossa/Feds) otherwise you'd see Kenny all over that.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

I agree completely with what Matt said above. For those of you Tiger fans around here, think about their blockbuster deal for Miggy and Willis. You gave up two guys who MAY be starts for two guys that are stars. Same kind of principle applies to lets say Flip/Huds and Hossa. You've got a proven player that, when given even better talent around him like Dats and Z would become even better, while giving up a guy who has shown that he's got the skill to be an NHLer, but there's nothing that he's done to prove to me he's a 40/50 goal a year guy (Flip). So, if I'm Kenny, I seriously consider trading someone like Flip or Huds to Atl for Hossa IF and only if I could sign him on long term at a reasonable price. But you definitely take proven all-star talent over potential all star talent, when the guy were talking about is still very young and technically not even in his "prime."

Simon Gagne out for remainder of the season

Thats brutal for them. And sad for Simon, he's a great player.

    Flip traded to Atlanta?

Eh, sounds like a load of crap to me.

    Fedorov back on the wings?

I gotta imagine it will take a starter/high level prospect and a draft pick. Sergei is on a team right now that has a shot at making the playoffs, yet they probably know deep down that they have no chance to win it all with the team they have. It'll surprise me if Sergei ISN'T moved before the deadline, seeing as how they want something for him rather then nothing, but they won't dump him for free neither. IMO, I'd be willing to part with a solid draft pick and a prospect. Obviously that depends on how high of a pick and how high of a prospect but Sergei really can't cost THAT much, nor should the Wings spend that much.

Holland to offer McCarty a contract?

Hold on there...you can't put Drake and Downey in the same category of Toughness. Sure you can say Drake is tough because he plays hard in the corners and ain't afraid to get dirty (so to speak) but they definitely don't compare. You ask anyone in the league who they would rather fight and they'll take Drake over Downey any day because they know they'd win. And I really don't think the Wings are going to get Hossa. Sundin, after what I heard yesterday, is sounding more possible - but Hossa I just don't see. I'd love to be proved wrong though, that would make my day

Holland to offer McCarty a contract?

Just remember everyone - If Mac gets this contract, and the Wings want to make sure he stays as their property, they're going to need to put him on the roster OR only send him back for a 2 week conditioning stint. If they sign him and send him back to GR, he'll need to pass through waivers, and I'm not sure if anyone would really want to sign him but I don't want to take the chance and I don't think Holland does either. So regardless, if Mac gets this offer, we'll see him in Detroit within 2 weeks of the deal. I just really hope they put him in right away, let him get his feet wet and legs back, and maybe he can play on the Grind Line again. Man that would be sweet.

Holland to offer McCarty a contract?

I've seen this coming from a mile away, but I'm glad its finally being talked about. Get him signed, get him ready and use him for depth. Also if we gotta play "bigger" teams, umm I'd rather have Mac in then Hudler or someone smaller that can't get past the big guys.
  22. I agree...I'd love to have Mats at that price. His talent size and skill would go great on this team, definitely.

    Lidstrom injured: "Not too serious"

Anyone else on here think that if he was hurt for the season, we'd have no chance at winning the cup? Because when he got hurt, I really didn't think it was that bad cuz he was walking fine but in my mind all I could think about was how theres no way our D will hold up without Lidstrom in the playoffs.

    Lidstrom injured: "Not too serious"

I was right I'm kind of proud of myself right now lol

    Lidstrom injured: "Not too serious"

If its his knee, I don't think it is that bad. The way he got hit suggests to me a knee sprain rather then a tear of the MCL or ACL. If you think of how Stevie hurt his in the past or the way other guys tear their knees up, its a lot different. I'll be really REALLY surprised if its more then a bad sprain, from the way he went in and down.
