Anyone here ever see the Stanley Cup in person?
WorkingOvertime replied to bdavis's topic in General
I saw it in Toronto at the HHOF last spring break. Didn't touch it though (by choice). -
Although I think Leino needs to be with skilled players to reach his potential (if there is any), he has one of his better games on the forth line with May and Abby a couple weeks ago. Hopefully he can start to pick up his play.
-
I don't blame him after only being back a couple games. I'm still surprised there was no instigator.
-
Instigator? Danny couldn't even get started there. He had his glove on his throwing hand which he was also trying to grapple with.

Cleary is back! Time to put on some Greeley's Reel. The first song is about Cleary and the Wings. http://www.myspace.com/greeleysreel

Other than Meech, who was fighting last night that shouldn't have been (although I did like Meech fighting- he stood up for himself after a big/dangerous hit)? When our team is getting pushed around, I like to see guys stick up for their themselves and their teammates. Also, the guys were obviously frustrated at their play and showing it.

1/5 GDT: United States at Canada

GO USA! Hopefully the US squad can step up and put the next one in. I don't agree with that last call (he was hit just before hitting the goalie and thus couldn't change his course/stop IMO) but I'm not surprised to see it in an IIHF game. -

Great game so far. GO USA. On a side note, I'm actually working on my application to University of Toronto as I watch the game. -
Did something happen to Abby that period? After the first his TOI was relatively high, but he only got ~2 min in the 2nd.

Dats. Finally.

12/28 GDT: Red Wings 0 at Blue Jackets 1 (OT)

We were in section 210. My roommate from college and I were wearing our Clemson hockey jerserys, but we were both cheering (loudly) for the Wings with some other friends. There was a good collection of Wings fans near us. The Columbus fans even needed help cheering for a power-play, which is something the Nashville fans were very good at the other week when I was down there. -

I was really dissapointed with the level of intensity of the Blue Jackets fans. I've been to a few Predators' games over the past couple years (in addition to Wings' games), and the Nashville crowd was much more electric than Columbus. There were only a couple occasions when their fans were able to out-do out "Lets go Red Wings" chant. It was a solid game by the Red Wings. If Mason didn't play out of his mind we would have likely won. -

We Should Have Gooned it Up These Last Two Games

I'll agree with you on that fact. Abby didn't have any huge hits, but it wasn't for lack of trying. Most of the hits for the Wings were in the first when the game was close. It was 2-0 until the last few minutes, so I wouldn't want us head-hunting too much being down a couple goals. With that said, when we went down 3-0 I would have liked to see someone show frustration in the form of big-hits/fights. -

Abs registered 7 hits (most from either team by two- he doesn't derserve to be called out for physical play), Bert had 5, Pavs had 4, and Helm had 1. See this for more info http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20092010/ES020553.HTM. -
Agreed. You can't really fault Bert on that one too much. If you look for them, slashes to the hand occur frequently uncalled.
-
NHL.com has Abby with 3 hits and Bert with 4 already. We need to keep this up.
-
I think our main focus should be a natural goal scoring forward. However, without a top pick it is always hard to find one. Also, I think that we need to go for a physical defenseman (like Lilja) and an physical forward/enforcer (think McCarty, Kocur, Carcillo).
-
Terrible game so far. While the goals have been weak, the shots are 22-10 in favor of Chicago and I don't think we could expect this game to be 0-0 with any goalie in net with the way we are currently playing.
-
I love to see that nastiness from us. I know Abby, Janik, Newbury, and May have it in them. We're trying hard but it's just not working.
-
They must be on to him...time to suit him up in goal so he can get a shot off.
-
Great end to the period. Dats' line is continuing their great chemistry. I'm always surprised at how well Abby carries the puck- now he just needs to start finishing.
