That's a very optimistic cap outlook for the next three years. I would be surprised if 2.5m was the hurdle in the Brunner negotiations. The term is also important here. Either Brunner wants a longer term with the Wings (and the Wings are hesitant), or Brunner wants a short-term contract so he can earn a raise if/when he established himself in the NHL.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 5m Hearing DAL-BOS is a 5-player deal.

This trade has been rumored before. I don't see what the Wings can afford/want to give up for Ryan. Have we seen any reports on what the Ducks want for him? Also, Eklund isn't a reliable source.
-
They can, but the recent mlive reports have the Wings looking at Flip (5m+ 5+yr), Weiss (5m 5yr), Riberio (5m 5yr), and Cullen (2 yrs). If the Wings are going to sign one of these players, I don't see how Grabovski at ~4m is a bad deal.

Over the past two seasons I've watched ~1/3 of Leafs' games, and I didn't see that from him anymore than anyone else on that team. If anything, I think he plays a little too reckless. He wasn't a fit with the Leafs 1st line, and he was overpaid. With Bolland, Bozak, and Kadri (and possibly Weiss), the Leafs didn't need to keep his contract. The guy also fought Chris Neil

What don't you like about him? He (generally) scores more than Flip and he will likely be cheaper. His defense isn't as solid, but his offense is certainly better. IMO him for 2-4 years at 4m is better than Flip or Weiss for 5-6 years at 5-5.5m. However, he could command the same price and term as those players.
-
He'll probably get a longer term offer, but I'd take Grabovski for two or three years. He would (relatively) cheaply fill the second line C position, and could move to wing when Jarnkrok is ready.

Any news on what type of buyout is being used? Unless they plan to buyout Mule next season, they don't need to save the compliance buyout, but it isn't necessary to use it now unless the Wings plan to be near the cap.

With the D-men that have been waived in the past two days, I don't think there is/was much of a market for him.

Report: Red Wings out on Lecavalier - signs with Philly 5@4.5 per
WorkingOvertime replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I agree that 5 years for 5m is too long. If Lecavalier continues to decline, I think we would see a lot of topics about how Holland should not have signed a declining player for 5 years at 5m/yr. He could stop declining or elevate his game, but I don't think the Wings want/need to take that chance. -
Hawks re-sign Bickell (4 years 16 mill)
WorkingOvertime replied to TheDetroitRedWings's topic in General
Bickell is a good complimentary player, and he will go as far as his linemates take him. However, he isn't the type of player that can elevate his line. I think right now 4m/yr is a large overpayment, but it can look good if he gets time with Toews and/or Kane all season. -
Hopefully Bertuzzi is penciled in for a top-6 position next season on his team. There has to be some offensive upside the Wings see in him, and this might explain some of the reach.

Red Wings Draft 2013- Off The Board Style

Last pick a 1992 birth year player?
-
Multiple places on the internet have him at six foot now.
-
Hopefully he can develop offensively over the next few years.
-
That's what I'm thinking. If he can be Callahan+ this could be a decent pick, but I can't believe there weren't other options if he got picked early.
-
I like what I know of the player, but I wonder why they didnt wait.
-
I would have liked him on the Wings. Hopefully the Wings can find a physical player with some offensive potential tonight.

Positive thoughts sent to your family.

Hope everything is alright.

Great trade down and pick for the Wings.

17yr old hockey player charged for on-ice assault.
WorkingOvertime replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
I agree that what happened wasn't a hockey fight. However, it appears the league did not choose any discipline outside of the normal penalties for fighting in this case. Therefore, it does seem that Hockey Canada and/or the local league did feel it was a hockey fight. IMO if you want to discourage these activities, the mentality that this isn't acceptable needs to be applied by the governing bodies for the sport through the rules. My statements above are only to show that this incident was ruled, seemingly by the book, by the league to be a hockey fight. Because of the rules and league ruling, it will be interesting to see if the court feels what occurred was outside of the normal hockey environment. -

From what I am seeing in the Hockey Canada rulebook (is this league subject to this rulebook?) there is a section under fighting for when one player does not retaliate. Therefore, according to the rules Hockey Canada, a fight could be possible with only one combatant. The only mention of a match penalty in the rulebook is if a player uses any hand material (rings, tape, etc) to gain an advantage, or cause injury, during a fight. -

When I said part of the game, I did not refer to it being acceptable, ordinary, or tolerable at the minor level. I did mean that it is prevalent enough that someone playing competitive hockey through age 17 in NA is likely to witness, participate in, etc. a hockey fight, and that it is common knowledge to players at this level that fighting can occur. If consent of both players is needed for a fighting penalty to be assessed, than this should fall under a match penalty situation.
