It's on NBC in the US. If you're out of the country, try the wizwig forums- there should be a few streams. -
Did you watch the video in the first post? Most of your points are addressed by the person in charge of discipline for the NHL. Cole made a rookie mistake. He needed to being the check earlier in order to catch Abdelkader's body. However, Cole overskates the check and has to throw himself into Abdelkader. If you watch the video, you can see that the position of Abdelkader's head does not change significantly. Cole likely said that because he perceived Abdelkader was coming at a different angle. As a result, Cole made contact (almost) solely with the head. It is a suicide pass, but that does not mean it is any more legal to have the head as the principal point of contact. If you have watched the NHL videos, you will see that a check with head contact is legal is the body is the principal point of contact. Cole obviously did not get much (if any) of Abdelkader's body. That is what the NHL believes and that determines suspensions. Essentially, a hit to the head is allowed as long as the majority of the hit occurs to the body (assuming no elbows, not vulnerable position, etc.).

No. Dats got both the head and the body. Cole did not. This is a very important detail when supplemental disciple is applied. The Dats play is a 2 min minor (much like the Jackman cross-checks before the hit), and the Cole play is a suspension. Watch the NHL videos on suspendable/non-suspendable hits and you will see this differentiation.

He was signed as a peace keeper...

It seem like a lot of the 'discussion' has taken the form of declaratory statements in both directions- i.e. the Wings will never beat Chicago in a playoff series, or this team cannot be beat when playing well. There also is the issue of a relatively stagnant roster. It is difficult to discuss the same lines, wanted players, etc. This applies more to the main board though.

I think the most the league can do is a fine- Barch did already sit for the majority of a game. This is a serious issue, but I don't know if the league can do any more considering the treatment of the Simmonds issue in the pre-season. I wouldn't be surprised if the Panthers sit Barch for a few games. It's a disappointing situation, but I honestly do not know what the league can do when it comes it setting guidelines for trash-talk. This was certainly over the line, but I'm not sure how/if the league could establish a benchmark when it comes to proper/improper trash talk.
-
I agree. Barch certainly stepped over the line, but I'm not sure how the NHL will handle the situation. In the pre-season, Simmonds made a slur to Avery that was picked up on the near-ice mics. There was no suspension. Barch was certainly out of line, but I'm not sure how far the NHL can go in regulating 'trash talk'.

Great fight be Commie. That elbow could have been bad and I'm glad Commie stood up for himself. Edit- Great fight meaning it was a good choice to stand up for himself. -

Wings haven't been getting any breaks from the refs these past two games. -

I'm assuming the reference is that with Abby not playing, he is as irrelevant as Shelley 'playing' for the Flyers (according to Rupp). Edit- Tim.D explained it. I wasn't sure how soon you'd be back to explain- sorry. -

Commie (or anyone else) needs to challenge Cole. I won't be upset if Cole declines, that there needs to be a challenge IMO. -

I stand by my opinion that Miller and Nyquist should be swapped. f*** that hit. Should be a 5 and game. Hopefully Abby is okay. -
That's an impressive lineup from a skill perspective, but that team is incredibly 'soft'.

Most of the posts are for goals, hits, penalties, etc. but it would be nice to have more hockey discussion in the GDT. Unfortunately, most of 'us' are watching, so it is difficult to post/respond to a more detailed analysis of the game.
-
I usually watch on the tv (via a computer) and post from my phone during games. As a result, I don't post much outside of cheering for goals.

Great enforcing by Rupp. Del Zotto wasn't innocent, but IMO a suckerpunch is rarely (if ever) warranted. If Kopecky was that upset, he should have dropped his gloves and fought. To me, these incidents are evidence of when fighting can be the safer alternative. Rupp was smart not to throw a punch until the ref had released Kopecky. IMO that detail should be enough for Rupp to not be suspended.

12/30 GDT : Red Wings 2 at Blackhawks 3

Do you watch the games, or just look at the box-score? As I asked before, what evidence from this game is there that the Wings don't have a chance in the playoffs against the Hawks? -

He did crash the net there. Unfortunately he got a penalty. -
