Peters, Kaleta, Lapierre... all cheapshotters themselves! He's just handing some justice that's all. It's kinda different when you take out the other team's star player. And BTW Ruutu did fight after that Lapierre hit. So obviously the fighting didn't solve anything there.

Personally I think it would be just outrageous that you could just start beating the s*** out of other player without them agreeing to a fight. This would basically mean that without the instigator penalty you could send your "Boogaard" to just beat the hell out of the other team's "Datsyuk" for example. If you wanna see fighting just for the sake of fighting go watch boxing or wrestling. This is hockey and IMO the fights are part of this game when two men agree to fight each other.

He has been good in those games he has played for them so far. Doesn't really matter what he did here.

Well I think he just has been changed. And I think he was never comparable to a guy like Cooke. Ruutu is actually a wise player.I can't even remember many examples of actual cheap shots by him now that I think about. Other than the Jagr hit in some international game. I think biting someone's finger nowhere near cheapshotting when you compare it to those headshots.

You probably remember last year, when I wanted us to pick that Finnish kid Rajala. But this Granlund. This guy is definitely someone we'd like to have. Even though Rajala managed to put up record-high points in WJC, he never proved much in Finnish league. But Granlund has been one of the best players here in Finnish SM-liiga this season. Started the season as a 17-year-old playing with MEN in the toughest league in Europe. He has 37 points in 39 games which is remarkable for a rookie. He has already broken some of the earlier rookie records by guys like Saku Koivu, Olli Jokinen and Teemu Selanne. I don't know if he will be there when our turn comes. Some projections has him in the top5 and most in the top10. But as said, he's a small Euro so he could well be available later.

So you mean that it's OK you can just start hitting someone even if they don't wanna fight or what is it? Removing the instigator penalty still means that both men have to drop the gloves. I don't think the 2min penalty there is a big deal. You can still do cheap shotting, even if afraid of fighting. Because there will never be a rule that says it's OK to start punching someone who doesn't wanna fight you.

It was an EXAMPLE. DON'T YOU GET IT? Counter arguments like "Boogaard is not a dirty player" or "Richards can also cheap shot" don't mean s***. The point was that you can still do it like that without the instigator. It doesn't remove anything. There are still plenty of players who can take your star player out who aren't afraid to get beaten after it. Don't you get it? The referees and the league are there to hand the justice. Just if you don't have players who can fight, doesn't mean that you have to stand s*** like that. You don't have to "defend" yourself against acts like that. Getting a beating is nothing compared to missing playing entire games. The players wanna play. Suspension is the only real punishment. I know you tough guys like watching hockey fights, but they solve nothing. It's like in some Asian countries were crimes have actually increased after death penalty. Removing the instigator penalty may decrease the amount of dirty hits, but you still shouldn't be alone defending your team from s*** like that. Like I said, the referees are there to make justice happen.

I love how stupid you're to pick only Kesler and compare him with Filppula.I have proven statistics of all players with about the same ppg - not just one underpaid guy - which proves that Filppula is nowhere near overpaid.

We're talking about rules here. I bet they don't make the rules thinking what Boogaard does or doesn't. It's just an example of how stupid it would be to remove the instigator - like it would change or help anything. That's just not justice. I don't. A guy like Boogaard for example can just cheap shot who ever he wants, because he usually don't have to be "afraid" figthing. And I don't think that's an excuse.Cheap shots should always be punished with suspensions. This is ice-hockey, not last man standing wrestling or something like that. The refs and the league is there to take care of the punishments. No team should be having to do that themselves. No team should be having to whitstand cheap shots just because they don't have a guy who takes care that "justice" happens.

So basically you're saying that it's OK that you can use your 4th line goon to "remove" some other team's (division rival for example) star player for let's say rest of the season for example. AND your goon would be away even less time. Just taking a beating after the dirty hit is nowhere near enough of a punishment.

If I was seriously injured I don't think it would make me feel any better even if someone did beat the hell out of the player that hit me.

That doesn't mean he couldn't be overpaid. You have to compare him with other players, not with himself.

You say Filppula is overpaid right now, but you don't have anything to prove that argument. I prove that he's not overpaid by comparing him to other players' cap hit of similiar ppg. The point remains the same. If you look only at the points, then Franzen with 7 points earning 4mill is overpaid. If you look at the PPG - AS YOU SHOULD - you'll see that both of them are good deals. You don't really have anything to back up your own arguments. Yet you keep ignoring what other people say. What a joke.

No it isn't. As I already proved to you STATISTICALLY, Filppula isn't overpaid when comparing him to other players in the NHL who have about the same ppg this season. Not to mention he's great defensively. And YES, we do have to look at ppg, not points. Otherwise Franzen would overpaid too. Because putting up X amount of points in earlier seasons doesn't really help if you put nothing this season. If you say that we should look points and not ppg, then Franzen is overpaid this season. If we look ppg - as we should - then Franzen and Filppula are both good deals. Period.Oh, just remembered you were the guy who said something and whenever a counter-argument was presented you claimed it didn't matter anything. So this is probably just a waste of time trying to speak some sense to your head.

Blame Franzen. I though we decided between him and Hossa, not between Flip and Hossa. Franzen has 5 goals this season, and as RedWingsAbner says: "Projections don't matter s***!". So blame Franzen.
