Buffalo signs Ville Leino to 6-year, 27m contract
Finnish Wing replied to Lonewuhf's topic in General
I'm totally OK with that. Again as I said, "proven" isn't always the better option. Connolly has already proven what he can do and what kinda player he is. Leino is one of the better examples of these so called "late bloomers" in the recent years.Leino being younger is of course positive as well, but the potential lies more in the fact that he's only played one full NHL season.I'm not looking at statistics here, eva. I know you like to play with them in every case. I've been pretty correct about Leino from the beginning. Of course I hope success to him, but I also firmly believe that he still has potential. I don't have too much statistic data to back it up, but it just a gut feeling. To me this is the first time his given a clear and big offensive role at this level. I just smell +60 points next season. I also know by watching him play a LOT in the last nine years that he has developed a lot defensively also, particulary last year. -
I'm pumped for Mikko. They guy's finally got some good snipers to play with him. Brunette was good as well, but Miettinen was horrible. Setoguchi might already be better than Brunette and we all know what kinda scorer Heatley can be. Expect Koivu to have a career year with at least point per game.

This is the key here. They're taking a risk and paying for potential, but it could end up being a great deal. Leino is now for the first time really given a real big offensive role and not that big of a threat for getting benched if it doesn't work out immediately. He's only been in the league for one full season, so there are still things left to see. He's a 27-year-old late bloomer and is probably still improving at least slightly. The last time Leino played center was in 06-07. He's a natural centerman. Of course there are question marks, but I see his style of play fitting better for the center role. -
The bottom line is we need to get rid of a d-man if we go after Yandle, so that's why Kindl is there. I'm ok with Filppula. Though I'd like moving Franzen more. Hudler could take Franzen's role, but neither of those guys have the defensive abilities Filppula has.

I am quite serious. IF the situation is that Coyotes can't get him signed they'll likely try to move his rights. They're still rights anyway, so they can't expect getting too much out of it. Coyotes are reportedly looking for an offensive center and Hudler could have potential for that. Kindl is a promising two-way defender which every team in the league could probably use.
-
Hudler, Kindl and a 1st for Yandle's RFA rights if the Yotes feel they can't get him signed.

You don't think Buffalo improved?Regehr replaces Butler. Ehrhoff replaces Montador. Leino replaces Connolly. Plus full season of Roy and Boyes.

Wonder how good they'll be without him. They pretty much got it going instantly when Leino was put on to that line. -
Neither. If Fleischmann would've gone into a better organization with that money it could be possible that the contract might have been bought out because of an injury. Fleischmann has had issues with them lately.4,5M seems to be the new market value for that kind of players as Laich, Leino, Fleischmann and Cole all got that money. Cap is going up in the future as well. Of course big part of it was the poor UFA market this year too.

I'm happy for Ville. He's pretty much set for life now regarding financy. Now he can focus on playing and winning.
-
Kaberle and White are our top two options right know. Kaberle is the better player, but White comes cheaper and has the right-handed shot. If we sign White we'd still have cap space to sign/trade for a forward. How about signing Fleischmann, White and a backup?
-
NO there isn't! LEAVE DEREK ALONE!
-
And there's the Worlds Gold winning first pairing too, Salmela-Lepisto. We need to have those guyz!
-
I know, I know. I was just teasing you guys. xD
-
I still don't get it.
-
Maybe they roll 4 A's like they did earlier. Timonen, Briere, Giroux, Meszaros/Carle/Coburn perhaps.
-
Why? I don't get it.
-
Huge steal by the Senators.

Van Riemdsyk-Giroux-Voracek Hartnell-Briere-Leino Versteeg-Schenn-Simmonds Powe-Betts-Nodl Carle-Pronger Timonen-Coburn Gustafsson-Meszaros Bryzgalov Bobrovsky Looks pretty interesting.
-
Bryzgalov, Pronger and Hartnell better give it their best next year. Because they were probably the main reasons these two guys got traded.
-
My guess is they either trade Versteeg or keep both. Holmgren has said he wants to re-sign Ville Leino. With all that cap space and two forwards traded away why would they let Leino walk NOW?
-
It's kinda s***ty thing to sign a guy for 11 years and then trade him to a worse team before the contract even starts. If they're trading Richards as well I can only imagine what Bryzgalov's contract looks like. Holmgren being Holmgren...

This! I saw it life in the HHOF. It looks awesome.

Vokoun and Doughty will replace them.
