Didn't totally get the meaning of this. Goaltending country means more than just one good number one goaltender in the Olympics. Tellqvist plays in Finnish SM-liiga.
-
Then I believe you haven't even watched Russia play in international tournaments recently. But you'll see, you just wait.
-
LOL. I'm sorry. I really totally forgot about Miller. Somehow tought he's Canadian. But anyways, competing for the number one goalie country are Finland and Canada.
-
It doesn't really matter to me who picks him, but I'm sure he'll be in the top10. And again, the size is nothing if you don't use it. Small players can be better in corners and more physical if they use their size well, like Granlund. And I'm not biased here. I'm just telling what I know and what I've seen watching games. He doesn't play for my favourite club like Rajala did so I don't really have any kind of man love in him either. And again 'bigger' and 'better' doesn't necessarily have anything to do with each other. He's a playmaker playing in men's league - the toughest league in Europe - so point per game is really good. You can say what you want, but as you have never even seen him play, I suggest that you don't say too much.
-
They've also got good defensive forwards, but the one thing they lack is toughness. The whole team is full of soft Euros. And Finland's goalies are the best after Canada!
-
He can. KHL is a good league. An many of these players are NHL calibre. And the main reason they are there, are because they are real role players. Bykov knows these guys and always knows what to expect from them. You can't put Kovalev in a checking line.

That's the Finnish league, undestand? Same level as AHL. And the kid is almost point per game here. He isn't big, but he always goes to the dirty areas unlike many other player of that size. I'm not saying Granlund is what the Wings need. But to say that he's not even going in the 1st round is just stupid, as he's touted a top 10 pick in most mock drafts. And the difference between Granlund now and Rajala last year is that Rajala never got it going in the Finnish league. But that's men's league, and Granlund has been one of the better centers in the league so far this season. And he's a playmaker, not a scorer. And he's not even played 22 games yet. It's 20gp 5g 14a. So, please check your facts before making judgements like this one. He IS tearing it up. edit: Those two games he played last year were over a year ago. He was 16 back then, playing for an entirely different team. And again, it's Finnish national league. You can't even compare it to these junior leagues such as WHL. FNL is the toughest European league. edit2: Did you even knew what FNL stands for as you posted that?

Not only on paper, as their coaching is world class as well. Unlike USA, that has good names on paper, but coaching and playing style sucks. Finland is the opposite of that.
-
Exactly. And btw, I'd rather watch Laura Lepisto than Kiira Korpi. Or even better, watch them both.
-
If he doubles that, I'm happy with him.
-
Not entirely. If it was, then it would be for example Fjodorov, Zinovjev and Tjutin.

Meaning that Leino's problems on the ice are mental problems.

Would you take Ilya Kovalchuk if Lidstrom retires?
Finnish Wing replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
We don't need "a game breaker", just a normal pure goal scorer, who can score on Datsyuk's wing. This team already has two superstar forwards. We don't need any more. -
The Positivity of all the injuries *right now*

Kinda surprised he didn't show up earlier. -

But that's the point. This team doesn't need more defensive forwards. We already have plenty of good ones. We need a pure goal scorer instead. A goal scorer can be defensively good as well, but that usually means that the cap hit is also higher. -
I think making a poll out of this is pretty useless as this is a Red Wings forum which means the results will be pretty much biased.

Well it's good that we all know it now. No need to continue this discussion then. Thank you. -
Where's Hudler? just kidding xD

I wouldn't say you can put Franzen in the same category with those two as a franchise player. -
Kinda funny that nobody even mentioned Tretiak before this post. Tretiak could be considered by some as the best goalie ever played the game. Shame, really, that he didn't play in the NHL.
-
It was Antti Niemi you know. The "kid" already has 4 shutouts this season.

I've probably said this a number of times before already, but doesn't this look much better and even much more realistic: Cleary-Datsyuk-Frolov Franzen-Filppula-Zetterberg Abdelkader-Helm-Eaves Miller-Draper-"May" + "Maltby", "Leino" Lidstrom-Rafalski(?) Kronwall-Stuart Kindl-Ericsson + "Meech" Osgood(?) Howard Those guys with quote marks mean that guys similiar to those. Osgood could retire and Rafalski could be traded. -
Now, I'm starting to get pissed off because we didn't sign Hudler. Maybe, it's because eva has brainwashed me. We could've easily get both Franzen and Hudler.

Move this to the "Rumor mill" section.
