Stop it! Logic has no use here. Lets live in the false pretense that we are doomed.

I'm noticing this a lot here too. Many LGW posters think next season is all going to be doom and gloom. Only fair weather fans would expect all the players to have a career downside and the end of the Red Wings legacy. They don't see the positive side of the young guns and black aces will be for the future of the Wings. They don't understand that players will never have a chance to advance to that next level if never given the chance, and lastly, they don't understand that good teams with good players will step up. If the Red Wings don't have that, and the black aces and young guns don't take advantage of this awesome opportunity (which they waited all their life for), then guess what... the Red Wings were never that good to begin with, they were just "lucky" to have the success they had and Kenny Holland was only a lucky GM who could fall in a pile of s*** only to come out smelling like roses. I tend to think the Red Wings have been, are and will continue to be an elite team. Players need a chance to prove they are caliber players. Yet some fans here are afraid to give these guys a chance, they only want proven vets that are going to get paid the money we don't have to spend... Wings will be fine. They don't need big name players. The young guys just need their chance.

Here is a subject that we don't see on LGWs. Top stupidest NHL team names, ugliest logos and, for fun, the ugliest team colors. Of course this is my opinion. Summary: Top 3 dumbest names, logos and colors: 1. Pittsburgh Penguins 2. Anaheim Ducks 3. Phoenix Coyotes / Columbus Blue Jackets (you decide) Top 3 coolest: (I'm leaving out the Red Wings) 1. Colorado Avalanche 2. New Jersey Devils 3. Dallas Stars / Minnesota Wild (you decide) ----- New Jersey Devils - Probably one of my favorite team names. Awesome logo. New York Islanders - Very respectful, represent their city. I cannot disrespect the Islanders. They earned my respect. I hope to see them become the big dog in the east some day soon! New York Rangers - Again, I respect the Rangers. I'm glad to see them doing well. Philadelphia Flyers - I like their colors and their logo is legendary, everyone recognizes their logo. Pittsburgh Penguins - Okay... A penguin? Really? This is the worse name in NHL and when you think about it, how can you take a Penguin serious? Their colors and their jerseys is one of the ugliest in the league and represents nothing. Their logo looks generic, but what do you expect when their team is a penguin? Seriously, a penguins? Maybe it started off on a joke or something and it turned into a franchise. Boston Bruins - The Bruins is a cool name and makes sense. They get nothing but respect from me, they are an original team. Buffalo Sabres - Cool. I always like the Sabres name. Not a big fan of their colors, but their logo is recognizable. Montreal Canadiens - Top notch. Nothing but respect to the Canadians. If I was a Canadian hockey player, I would personally be honored to be on such a team that represents my country and the legendary history. Ottawa Senators - Unique. They don't follow the trend. The Sens form their own originality. Toronto Maple Leafs - Nothing but respect to the Leafs. Their colors are honorable. This is another team that any player should feel honored to represent. Atlanta Thrashers - Indifferent. Their colors are easy on the eyes, the logo works for them and their name makes sense. Carolina Hurricanes - I appreciate the Canes. their name, logo and colors fit their image. Florida Panthers - I've always liked Panther name. I grew up in an era where the Panther tattoo was a trend. Panthers is a better name than their success. Tampa Bay Lightning - Definitely fitting. The logo is a bit cheesy, could be made to be better, but I like the theme. Washington Capitals - Very respectful. Another team I think players should feel honored to play for. I'm Glad they have AO and are the force in the east. An honorable team, love the theme, colors and logo. Chicago Blackhawks - I always liked the Blackhawks. Always have to respect the original 6 team. The name, logo and colors are definitely fitting. I'm proud that the Hawks are coming back! Columbus Blue Jackets - Fits their State and their theme. Though I'm not a fan of the logo and name, it does represent their State. Detroit Red Wings - Since this team is mine, of course I am going to be bias. Nashville Predators - Catchy name. Not a fan of their colors. St. Louis Blues - One of the most recognizable logos in the NHL. The history of this team built more than their name can pronounce. The Blues was a great rivalry. Calgary Flames - Love the name, color and theme. Probably the top 10. Colorado Avalanche - Another team that I am fond of their color, logo and name. I think Avs have one of the best looking jerseys in the NHL. Edmonton Oilers - Respect to edmonton, but one of the most blah themes. Minnesota Wild - Another great looking jersey. Wild got my attention when they created their organization. Vancouver Canucks - It's the Canucks, what else is there to say? I think Canadian native hockey players should be proud to play on this team. Anaheim Ducks - The "Ducks" lol. Okay, this is dumb as the Penguins. The advantage the Ducks have is their jersey and logo is better looking than the Penguins. Dallas Stars - North Stars should be proud, the Stars is a great name and logo. I'm putting them in the top 10. Los Angeles Kings - Nice colors but ugly logo. The name is misleading compared to their club. Phoenix Coyotes - Probably the top 3 dumbest logos in the NHL. Sad to see their current troubles, but the way they utilize their theme has more to be desired. San Jose Sharks - I am a fan of the Sharks theme. I like their "Shark tank" and I bet this is probably one of the funnest teams to watch in their building because the way they utilize their theme. Teal in white is are cool colors.

YES! Now we can stop hearing his name around here every 3 seconds!

I'm not just not keen on the lil' bugar. Never have been, never will be. Personally I would rather a 3 million Filipulla type player for the 3rd line than a 2.5 - 3 million Hudler. That is my opinion, you are welcome to flame me, but it won't change my opinion.

There's also a chance that the world comes to an end and NHL experiences the biggest lockout in the history of man kind.... There's also a chance that Howard plays out of his ******* mind and beats Ozzie for #1. There's also a chance that Zetterberg and Datsyuk get injured and sit out most of the season. There's also a chances that Chicago's goal scorers doesn't gel and fall apart from too much ego in the locker room. There's also a chance that Zetterberg, Cleary, Franzen, Datsyuk all have career years and make up 40+ goals combined and Helm and Leino become 40 point producers.... But one thing that is for sure, is there is NO certainty in HOCKEY! btw, how are you going to sign this 20+ goal scorer with 1 million? After all Holland needs to fill a few roster spots. According to CapGeek.com Wings only have 1.8 million left to spend. Even so, how are you going to sign a 20+ goal scorer with only 1.8 million?
-
What do you mean the Shanny of 2006? Shanahan just scored 23 goals in 73 games in 2008 season with the Rangers. Source to back up my claims: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/65 By they way, I don't want Shanny. But some people here seem to think that if Wings don't replace those "88" goals or score 295 goals next season, we're doomed and don't make the playoffs. Other people here think they can sign two 20+ goal scorers for under 1.5 million each. Personally, imo.. I say Holland shouldn't sign anyone outside of our prospects. I think we should run with our AHL boys and, if lucky, find a diamond in the rough during training camp (ala Cleary). Lastly, I hope somebody, anyone, signs Moen, I am getting ******* sick of hearing his ******* name. And I am getting sick and ******* tired of all these god damn useless panic threads and "Holland didn't do s***" comments. Welcome to the ******* cap world, a place where you can't s*** out more cap space! That aside, for the money, Shanny is the best option for money/goal ratio than any other UFA for the money.

"to an extent" could mean 80-some goals instead of 88 goals. So "to an extent" those guys will came up short. I see your wishy-washy post, but nobody is expecting Leino, Helm, Abdelkader, and Ericsson netting "to an extent" 88 goals. Do you think they'll add "to an extent" the goals to provide a similar offense season like 2007/08 (the year we won the cup)? That would mean they only need "to an extent" less than 5-10 goals each.
-
Bold statement, especially considering he was nearly a 20 goal scorer in the AHL.
-
Who said Leino, Helm, Abdelkader, and Ericsson will net 80-some goals respectively? I have not read anyone making such claims. Please copy & paste all the posters who are making such claims, because I don't believe there are any. Please and thank you.

I didn't feel like reading through all these posts, but they should penalize RFA who run off to the KHL. Meaning they should make a rule stating that if a RFA runs off to the KHL, then they forfiet any future of comong back to the National Hockey League or shall pay a fine and will be required to sign for league minimum as if they are a fresh rookie. Jm2c Edit: I don't want Hudler back. I was never keen on him, he's too small and not defensively good enough.
-
If people want a goal scorer to fill the void, then Brendan Shanahan is the man. He'll put up 20+ goals and should be a 40+ point producer. I'm sure he could be had for around $800,000 - $900,000 for a 1-year deal. He could retire a Red Wing. 40+ points for under 1 million is a ******* bargain. So that's how we make up the "88" less goals next season: Shanny 20 Leino 15 Helm 10 Abby 9 Oulahen 8 Ericsson 8 --------------------- Total 70 goals = 18 less than last year. 277 Goals For. That is ELITE! That's 20 more goals than 2007/08 -- the year we won the cup. (assuming Zetterberg and Flip both have off years and Flip doesn't increase goal production with more ice time)
-
I hope Kenny signs Moen just so LGW posters stop making these stupid ******* threads 30 times a day.
-
I agree, we should fire everyone and sell off all our current contracts and move the Red Wings to China. You are 100% correct, we are doomed. Save the embarrassment and sell the organization to China! Get it done, Kenny.

Stanley cup hangover is real, very real. Adding Hossa and his offense had given the Wings room for error, which allowed them to play much more reckless and careless. All factors combined, the defense and Osgood 'hangover' was the sole root of the problem. You don't go from best in the league to the worse in the league in defense because of players are folding and are no longer NHL caliber. Last year's defense and GAA was a fluke. Detroit is still provides the top 3 defense in the league. And the additions of Ericsson, Helm and Abby just makes it better. Defensive minded: Ericsson > Lebda Sammy < Helm Abby > Hudler Kopecky < doorknob
-
Is it fair to compare Datsyuk's rookie season to Leino? I mean Detroit was stacked with allstars and Datsyuk didn't get to play any reasonable amount of ice time. I expect Leino getting some 2nd line ice time, and he'll probably even get some chances at playing with Datsyuk and/or Zetterberg on the powerplay. I also like the way Leino and Zetterberg gel together, they seem to have some chemistry. Am I the only one who noticed this?
-
I don't expect the Wings to do any signings until training camp. That's how we got Cleary.
-
You guys are crazy if you don't think Leino will net 18-20 goals. He's going to be great. Ericsson will net us 7-10 goals, Abby will get us 8 goals, and Helm will net 10-12 goals. That is 42 goals in a worse case scenario. Also expect more goals from Cleary, Zetterberg and Filippula. The Wings will be fine!
-
I like Lebda for only $650k and I think he'd be desired by other teams because of his cheap salary and his experience. He'll never be a top 4 or 5, but I do think he's a solid 6th who is willing to jump into the play. Babcock sometimes used the torpedo system with Lebda out there and it seemed to be effective. I can't hate on the guy. Why do you always use that font? I'm too lazy to spell check, let alone change the font.
-
Not that I want Zednik, and this is a bit off topic. But if KHL wants to steal NHL players, then why can't NHL steal KHL players? If they give us any s***, just nuke their asses!
-
Indeed it didn't help that Lilja was out. I do think our PK will be better with Helm and Lilja killing'em. I hate to see Holland trade Lilja because his pay is very reasonable. But then again, Lebda's salary is irreplaceable for what he has to offer. It's a double edge sword, I guess.
-
Are you counting bonuses? I guess we can get Mats Sundin then
-
Ahhhh, the uncertainty of hockey, isn't that what makes it so great? The simple answer to your *what if* questions above is simple; we lose... then we retool again in 2010/11 with Lids, Draper, Maltby and Holmers' contracts all coming to an end and cap space opening up. Not the end of the world, really. I don't see why the Wings defense can't play like it did in 2007 and like it did in the 2009 playoffs.
-
I explained the defense 'theory'. Now explain the salary cap 'theory'. How will Holland 'magically' afford these big scorers with only $1,819,347 cap space?. Holland still has 2 more spots to fill with less than 2 million. Source: capgeek.com

Yup, I'm surprised this guy thinks tightening up the defense is impossible. Red Wings clearly blew off the regular season as they had nothing to prove. The 2008/09 defense and goaltending was "atrocious" ... However, Red Wings magically turned it around for the playoffs (how conveniently when it truly mattered the most). Like I said, there's no reason why Detroit can't win the cup next year with the arsenal that we have, all they need to do is stay healthy.
