Surprised that some people here think Lidstrom is looking to cash in next year. Lidstrom has always been the least greedy NHL player in the league. We signed him for 7.5 when, at the time, he could have easily have fetched 11 million per (Jager money at the time). 3 million for one year is very-very logical. Hell, he'll forty f***in one! Can't believe some people's logic (or lack thereof) here. --assuming Lids doesn't retire--

That was my point. I don't think Hossa's personality is cancer. The situation for Detroit (and Chicago) is cancerous. Holland would have to give up Filippula and Cleary to keep Hossa. That just isn't realistic as Detroit would not only lack depth, but lose some of our best playoff performers and key role players that makes Detroit "the team to beat". Red Wings would no longer be a contender in the cap world... Some people don't get that. In the cap world, teams can't have 6 superstars and 5 key role players. We're no longer in the pre-cap world when Holland can sign 76 million for a one season roster. Chicago is going to be in a world of hurt after this year. That situation is cancer. The 2011/2012 Chicago Blackhawks won't be an impact team unless they can unload some highly paid and/or overpaid players. Anyone who thinks the 2010/2011 Red Wings would have better with Hossa in the aforementioned cap situation is completely and utterly ignorant. Holland is a genius for letting Hossa walk. I still question how couch GMs can possibly think otherwise. Kenny Holland > LGW's second guessers Some people can't comprehend "salary cap". Thankfully they are not and never will be involved in any Red Wings' roster, contract or team decisions, EVER! In Kenny we trust!

At first I was thinking that NHL should blow this off, it's just a mistake and the consequences seem too harsh. But then after seeing that this happened to the Devils in 2000 with some of their players, I think it's only fair that NHL continues to enforce their rules because Devils got zapped with the same thing.

Does this confirm Holland isn't signing Hudler?

I might get ripped apart for this, but I don't think Hoss and Holmstrom was right to have together. Despite Hossa getting 40 goals last year, I never felt the Hossa-Datsyuk-Holmstrom line meshed as well as it should have (on paper). I think Homer will be much better off with Dats and Zetterberg together.

Never heard of him. I couldn't think of a new alias for LGW and that was the first one that came to mind. I liked my old username from 2001/2002 better, but I lost the email address to retrieve the password.

Nice try Strawman. As much as you would like to manipulate and skew my post, nowhere did I say Hossa was "locker room cancer". I said his situation is cancerous to the Blackhawks, and I said thankfully he's not ruining our organization, as it would dampen our depth completely (like it's doing to Chicago). You're a Hossa slappy, we get that. You'll probably be rooting for the Hawks next season, that's what bandwagon fans do. We know your kind all too well. You're the guy that was fighting with a dozen other LGWs members trying to claim that the Frazen signing was s*** and Hossa is god. You're the biggest ******* tool on the board, but that's okay, you are entertainment to all of us! You're like watching a deadly car accident, we cringe when it happens, but can't stop looking and pointing

Whoa, just took a peek over at the Hawks board and it seems that Chicago's management is having major meltdowns and powerstruggles in their management and office. Blackhawks are imploding from within... This is too ******* hilarious. Hossa is probably the main factor destroying their organization, and he will be the cause that Hawks' future is going to be f***ed. What a cancer, glad he's gone, cause that could be us right now... well doubt that since our Org is class act, but it would have been very stressful for our management to sort out all the depth issues and losses. Chicago f***ed themselves. The cancer will lead into the locker room, bank it!

I was almost going to make a new thread the other day asking WHY does Chicago seem to always want our guys? Can't they build their own legacy instead of trying to steal ours? What's next, they gonna want to steal our "Hockeytown" reputation/heritage and take our Octopi history.
-
So what you are saying is Osgood is clutch, but he can let in a goal at any moment? Who'd a thunk it??? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Luongo can let in a goal at any moment, too. Damn them goailies for letting in a goal, dammen! Just one question though, how are the Red Wings gonna afford this 3 million dollar goalie and 3-4 million dollar winger? Osgood is the best goalie in the league for his salary and experience. He is a proven championship goalie. This thread sucks! Do some basic research before making threads.

The Red Wings will net less goals next year, but we'll also have a better PK and overall tighter defense. With that said, don't underestimate the power of Franzen, Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Hossa, Hudler and Sammy netted a lot of goals but I think it's safe to say it won't be as bad as some of you think... Flip will do better with 2nd line ice time. I'm not expecting a big increase in goals from Cleary except some big clutch goals (but if he nets more than last year, great!--he's our playoff weapon). I do have a feeling that Leino and Helm will surprise us. Not saying they'll score a ton, but they'll certainly net their fair share. So we'll lose 82 goals and gain 50-55 goals (assuming Zetterberg and Datsyuk will score 5 more goals each then last year) and Leino gets 15, Helm gets 10, Abby gets 5 and the unnamed player gets 5, oh and Flip will get 10-15 more goals than last year due to his increased TOI and PP time. -- and I think my prediction is very conservative, they could all do better, but who knows. Anyhow, just improving our PK will be huge. That should make up for our 32 less goals... oh, and Ozzy should be up to the challenge. I think we'll be fine. edit: Ericsson quarterbacking the point should net some biggies too... Like he did in the playoffs (and game 7 against the Pens)

Barker isn't the caliber of Defensmen that I hope Holland is looking for. Barker wouldn't even crack our top 4 d-men, not to mention our 5th and 6th is pretty damn solid too... Not sure if he's the upgrade we'd be looking for. Unless he is willing to sign for dirt cheap for his chance to win the cup, then we might take him and move up Kronwall in place of Lidstrom. Next year the Red Wings is going to have a lot of free money for July 1st. The player that Chi-town has that I'd really like to see wear a Wings jersey is Sharp, and he'll probably be traded off your roster soon...
-
I doubt the UFA thing is going to happen. I'm sure they'll get the free pass.
-
This thread is hilarious. Wings will not be in the market for a tiny goal scorer.... we'll need a defenseman that can be solid enough to fill Lidstrom's spot (assuming he retires), if Lids does stay another year, I think we'll only be in the market for a 2nd line winger and, perhaps a a tough forechecker/backchecker with a long reach and can score. Who? I don't know. Though, I wouldn't mind seeing Sharp come here, I think he's a great addition for playoff hockey.
-
Kopecky was our worse player on the Red Wings. He was a body to fill for the price we were paying him. You guys are over paying him. Hossa was a good signing but it appears your team has actually getting worse instead of better. I read that your GM may be shopping Sharp (and maybe even Kane) for a defenseman defenseman. You already lost Bulin (which I think was your key at taking your team to the WCF next year) and Pahlsson who seemed to be a much better upgrade over Kopecky. Havlet was injury prone but he produced in the playoffs, Hossa's playoff performances have been less than stellar... so if the Stanley cup is your overall goal, you're team significantly downgraded. Though, you guys may just get more regular season points than us, but that's hard to say because of your goaltending issues...

Rules aren't always the rules... **cough**Malkin -- game 3 -- mandatory suspension waived off**cough**

After reading through all that candy coated bulls***, the fact still remains the same, Chicago is f***ed. Depth? They'll have none. Can they sign their big three next year, highly doubtful unless they can scrape away all role players and sign a whole bunch of 1 million dollar (and less) scrub players. P.S. Please provide a legit source to your claims regarding Havlat.
-
I agree with getting a top defenseman, just not Pronger. But there is going to be ONE HELL OF A FIRE SALE IN CHICAGO NEXT YEAR!, Bank it! Lol. Next offseason is going to be fun! Now Chicago is talking about moving Sharp... Wow! Hossa's already screwing their depth up and Sharp is a damn good player to have! Chicago is really starting to look worse now than they were last playoffs. They lost Bulin, Havlat and Pahlsson (am I missing anyone?), and they can pretty much say bye-bye to Versteeg and Sharp. Not a good offseason if you're a Chicago fan.

We look to be in very good shape the way you listed it. Wings (IMOH) have made the best signing in the league with the Frazen for 3.9 million. P.S. Thank god for Meech, he's a blessing to have!
-
Huh? Do you mean Fedorov? Leino doesn't even have a quarter the skating ability as feds has...
-
Is Kenny implying that Huds will be back?

Can we please start another 30 Grier thread? That would be just lovely! http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=59844

How much is Leino going to sign for ya think, 2.5 million over 2 years?
