You think players around the league won't notice how they treat Campbell? Another part of Detroit's system is they built their reputation on respect and honor to their players. They treat players right, which makes players want to come here for a discount... because they know they will be treated right and shown respect. Like the Hossa situation, Holland basically told him "it's okay if you go shop around, our offer isn't that good due to the cap, we understand this and to show courtesy for you coming here and playing in Detroit (and you owe us nothing), go ahead and talk w/ teams and terms Hossa, it was great having you! While Chicago is like, ya we made a mistake, but Campbell is going to suffer and treated like an ******* for it. That's how we roll here... go to the AHL you bastard, nobody wants your lazy ass. We signed you for too much and now you must suffer for it and we're going to jump ship to the 'better' option at your expense. Notice how Havlat isn't to happy. He uses the words "loyalty" and "honor"? Chi-town is ******* themselves in the long run. Basically what you believe is Tallon and these three players (Toews, Kane, Keith) all have a "gentleman's agreement", right... See my reply above. Looks like they had some kind of "gentleman's agreement" with Havlat too, look at his comments about how he's saying Chicago/Tallon have no "loyalty" or "honor" which leads us to believe they had a "gentleman's agreement" that they reneged on ... That will HURT Chicago more than it helps. Again, Holland and the Wings approach to being a successful team is by treating players with respect and being the classy organization around the league. Players are happy to take big discounts to be part of the 'legacy' and win the cup. Chicago is turning into the NBA approach, and it's sad.

    OFFICIAL: 12y, $62.4m makes Hossa a 'Hawk

I think you and I both agree the cap sucks. We lost a solid defenseman named Kyle Quincey last year on waivers because of the cap/Hossa situation. We know how bad it sucks.

The answer is no. We already went through this, Holland attempted to sign Hossa at 4 million for 10 years, but many of us here deemed that to not being practical. Why? because 1) it means we'll lose our depth and it wasn't worth it, and 2) it was a lowball offer that we all knew Hossa would never agree to. Lastly, we would be PISSED if Holland signed someone at Hossa's age and bad playoff performance, all while costing us our future and competitiveness. I understand you want to believe your GM. That's fine, but work the basic numbers and do the simple math yourself, it's not rocket science. Chi-town has 2 choices, (hopefully) sign those three guys next year and have absolutely no room for depth players (be a 1 and half line team for many years) ... or let a couple of the Kane's, Toews' or Keith's go and have funds to employ some depth / key guys. Don't be foolish and think those guys are going to sign for 3.5 - 4.5 million.

We'd be PISSED if Holland put us in that situation! We would call him out to be fired and question his loyalty to the team. We'd also question if it's his last push before retiring or Illich selling out.... But we would never expect Holland to put the Red Wings is such a s***ty situation, he's too savvy for that.

We all believe he said that, but face it bro, unless he does manage to unload the overpaid guys (Campbell / Huet) and signs the three core guys, they'll still lack any depth. Chicago's depth is what made the team such a threat. After all six guys are signed, it will be about 36-38 million cap hit (if Tallon can get them to sign for way under their market value @ long term contracts), then he'll have only about about 17 to 19 million for the other 17 roster players. Tallon can say this stuff till he's blue in the face or till his eyes turn brown from being full of s***, it still doesn't change the crisis in Chicago.

    Blackhawks to be power house?

Chicago should make the playoffs, but how deep they go is yet to be seen. They have some gaping holes that they can no longer fill due lack of funds and their future is a complete cluster f***. How a team looks on paper and how well it meshes is two different things. As Wings fans, we know this all too well. I do think Tallon went too far and hurt the team more than he improved it, honestly. They were so close and now they went and did a big overhaul, that's not always a good thing... especially when they were as close as they were. I still can't wrap my head around the Kopecky signing. He's our trash... and Chicago (who is building a cup team) picked him, grossly overpaid him, and gave up Pahlsson?! That makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever. Now their going to lose Versteeg and some other key elements. Not sure how their offense has really improved.

would Hossa stayed if we would have won the cup?

If Wings were healthy and won the cup, Hossa would have bolted to the highest bidder, probably Montreal or LA. Hossa will now destroy the Chicago organization. Godspeed.

it's quiet... A little too quiet...

I don't see any problem with posters here wanting the Wings to get bigger... I sure don't. Bell is only 28 years old, picked 8th overall and had some promising 45+ point seasons. I think the kid deserves a second chance even if it's not with on the Wings. But I do think he would sign a 1 year deal for $750 - $800,000 and could potentially score as many goals as Sammy. Lets face it, there's not a lot out there that Red Wings can afford and we do need to fill a couple of holes.

    Blackhawks to be power house?

Very plausible. Wings are still the team to beat since we have arguably the best trio in forwards in the game and possibly the best defense in the NHL, not to mention Osgood is an absolute playoff beast.

What's up with all these stupid blackhawk threads popping up? Surely your post NEEDED a new thread... c'mon dude.

I think Toews will land a long term deal near Datsyuk and Zetterberg's numbers. He's the bread and butter of their team, and I can think of about 20 other teams that would kill to have him. Kane I don't think will get over 6 million, but should be locked in for 5.5 and Keith, it's hard to predict. Campbell is making 8 million, so Keith should get at least 10 million. Lol - (I kid, I kid). But Keith is a guy I wouldn't mind seeing Holland go after... Probably worth 5.5 million? That's around 17.4 million just for those three guys right there (at a bargain - long term deal - with home team discounts) and they could demand a bit more.

When Hawks put Huet in net, I was a happy-happy man. It was a blessing for us to end the series sooner so we could move on to the finals. I hope Huet is in net next year so we can destroy him again. --providing the Hawks / Wings meet up.

This post is so full of fail that I don't even know where to begin. I'm jealous that Tallon is ruining the Chicago Blackhawks future? Lol. okay! Personally I'm glad that Hossa is gone because he would have ruined Detroits future as well. To me, he wasn't worth keeping for the cost of our role players that... which is a big part of winning success. Holland had all those players signed because our big name boys weren't due for a raise last year, we had the money to burn for a 1 year deal with Hossa. Now that everyone got their raises this year, Wings couldn't afford Hossa at 4 million, let alone 5.2 million without losing our major components in the depth department. What makes you think Chicago is the exception (not to mention the cap is expected to decrease next year). Chicago will have nearly 38 million in 6 players. Let me repeat, Chicago will have damn near 38 million (80%) of their cap money in only 6 players if they resign Kane, Toews and Keith. Not to mention all the depth players that they'll be forced to lose. Like I said, yesterday was a sad day if your a Blackhawks fan. Tallon just mortgaged the future for a one year opportunity to win the cup, while completely disregarding the main issue, the goaltending issue. If that makes me jealous, then obviously you know s*** about hockey. Wings have the a very bright future for many-many years to come and they're just going to keep getting better.

    Versteeg

May as well keep Huds, both guys are equally small but Huds puts in more pucks. Versteeg isn't coming to Detroit.

The real story is Tallon is putting all his eggs in one basket and hoping for the best. They are building for a one year opportunity to win the cup even though it is going to sacrifice their future at any cost. Problem is, they just gave up any siginificant chance they had by not addressing the goaltending situation. Huet just isn't going to be able to carry this team to the finals. I love Bowman, but I think it's time he retires. I'm glad he's not in the Wings org anymore. I have a feeling Kane or Keith (or both) won't be a Hawk after this year.

    Martin Havlat Twitter/ Sun-Times Article

I fail to see the merit behind it when they mortgaged their entire future and will not only lose some of their core players, but will lose some of their depth as well. It's not a good day in Chicago if you're a Hawk fan, that's for sure. I'd be PISSED if Holland put the Wings in this situation where we could lose either Datsyuk, Zetterberg or Lidstrom. Chicago just don't seem to have it "together" and Bowman is really starting to show his age.
  17. Snazzy

    What was Chicago thinking?

Keep in mind that the cap is expected to decrease next year (the year these guys' contracts are up) and already have 20million locked up in 3 guys, two of which is way overpaid and nobody in their right mind will ever take. There's no way Chicago can sign all three of these guys. Chicago is losing at least one and they're not going have any solid depth after this year. Yesterday wasn't a good day if you're a Chicago fan, their GM just mortgaged away their entire future for a one-year-window while having subpar goaltending. When was the last time a team won the cup with a shaky and unreliable goaltender? Perhaps Tallon should have went after Conklin, too.

    Trade for Laraque!

Or we could just keep Downey for 1/2 the price. And trade Lebda or Lilja for someone else.
  19. Snazzy

Kings had exclusive negotiating rights to Hossa

Sadly, Hossa doesn't have a backbone. He should have been more open with people instead of giving false hope. Oh well, he'll never see the cup now that he's in Chicago. That's too bad really, I was hoping he'd get a chance.
  20. Snazzy

Are you content with Z and Franzen?

Well he better get busy then, because his window of opportunity is about to close.

    OFFICIAL: 12y, $62.4m makes Hossa a 'Hawk

You keep spewing this nonsense but you are yet to provide a source. I think you're hanging on to false hope that Hossa will return. Get over it, Hossa's gone.... you really do need to let go and move on.
  22. Snazzy

    What was Chicago thinking?

FYI Hossa can chose if he wants to sign the contract. So actually he does dictate what he wants. If want's a NTC, he doesn't have to sign and he can then go on to negotiate with other teams, and I'm sure there was a lot that had him in their sights. It's hard to fathom Hossa would sign a contract with a trade clause. Especially since he wants "stability".
  23. Snazzy

Are you content with Z and Franzen?

So basically what you're saying is that you're a ******* idiot. Gotcha. Keep up the good work!
