    Hossa wants 6million a year

    Or 9, 7, 6, 5, 3.5, 3, 2.5, 2, 1, 1 = $40m over 10 years Or sign him 12 years at a 3.5 cap hit.

    Hossa wants 6million a year

Right. The point is Holland can work the numbers to make something work if Hossa only wants 6 million for his respective career. I'm guessing his career would end at the age of about 38 or 39. Maybe that's why Cheli persists on playing so old, to prove the "New NHL" allows players to play up to the age of 60+ years old. Lol.

    Hossa wants 6million a year

Exactly what I was thinking. Except don't forget the 50% rule. I think Hossa wants an average of 6 million per year for 8-10 years. Meaning that he couldn't care less if Holland pays him 60 million at the age 30 and one penny for the rest of his career or pay him one penny for 9 years and 60 million on his 10th year. He just want's an average of 6 million-per-year. Some might argue that he isn't worth 6 million at the age of 39, but don't forget that he's worth 8 million at the ages of 31-33. So no matter how you work the numbers, which Kenny will do, Hossa just wants an average 6 million through-out his career. He doesn't care about how it looks on paper to make the CAP work. EDIT: another example would be signing Hossa for 20 years for a cap hit of 3 million. 30: 8 31: 8 32: 8 33: 8 34: 8 35: 8 36: 5.5 37: 3 38: 1.5 39: 1 40: 1 RETIRE - CONTRACT OFF THE BOOKS 41: 1 42: 1 43: 1 44: 1 45: 1 46: 1 47: 1 48: 1 49: 1 50: 1

    Hossa wants 6million a year

That's correct. It can't decrease by a certain amount, but I don't know what that number is. I am sure 1.5 decrease should be okay. But stuff like this doesn't work - 7million then 1 million the next year. But I think Holland could easily get that cap hit down to 4.7 to 4.8 if he skims the numbers i.e 7.2mil, 7.2mil, 7.2mil, 7.0mil, 6.9mil, 6.2mil, 6.0mil, 4.3mil, 3.1mil, 1.9mil, 1mil, .900 = around 59 million and about 4.9 cap hit.

    Hossa wants 6million a year

Holland can make 6 million work for 8 years and extend his contract to 12 years. This way the last 4 years will be nickles that brings the cap hit down. 7.5mil, 7.5mil, 7.5mil, 7.5mil, 7.0mil, 6.5mil, 6.0mil, 4.5mil, 3.5mil, 2.5mil, 1mil, 1mil = 62 million / 5.15 cap hit ^Just an example. You can work the numbers any way you want, but the last 2 years will be the drop off point.
  9. Islanders are not going to let that pick get away. They are banking on that pick to turn around their organization.

    Heatley?

This is true. My accountant's son has a friend who is dating a girl that has an uncle that knows a guy who is roomates with a clerk at a gas station, and he said his friends brother knows a guy that saw a griffin player smiling like he knew some inside info You heard if first here.
  11. Can't Holland structure a contract that work with Lidstrom's contract (and some of the other guys coming off the books) next year? Do something 10 years - 2million, 7.5million, 7.5million, 7.5million, 7million, 6million, 4.5million, 3.5million, 2million, ^for example

That's the most overused line on LetsGoWings. The people who use that phrase are usually the one ones who know little about hockey. Funny how that works.

    Why are pens fans mad?

yeah, that makes sense. Fluery is a MVP goaltender because he made a save in the dying seconds of a game... Osgood must be a GOD then. Kenny, sign Osgood for a 75 year contract... he's GOD! It's also funny that you are trying to proclaim that Penguins are the strongest team in the east when next season will be an all new can of worms. Bruins will continue being the strongest team in he east. Pittsburgh will be the new Tampa Bay Lighting.

Really, take Malkin, Oprik and Talbot out of the line up... Give Crosby a bum wrist and Scrudi a torn nut sack, Gill an appendix surgery, Staal a blown knee and Gonchar a herniated disk and a separated sholder and see how well they do against a completely healthy Red Wings team... Like I said, no team in the world could accomplish what Detroit did. I challenge you to name one team that could...

    Why are pens fans mad?

Don't confuse what I said as a "conspiracy theory", instead lets look at the facts. Ask yourself this... Do you think the 2002 Wings were discussed in Bettman's private meeting when the Cap was heading into play? Do you remember the reputation the Red Wings had? People (and some media) was complaining that the Red Wings "buy their cups".... do you remember these days? Look at what Holland is doing now... what is another reason why Detroit maintains their threat? They get players to sign for "under market value", and sign players to long term contracts to level out the salary. It's GENIUS! And mark my words, it's just a matter of time till Bettman steps in and makes new rules that dampers the Red Wings methods. (edit: and had Wings won the cup again, I think it would have expedited a rule change) Is that a conspiracy theory? I don't think so, I think it's logical to think that Bettman, like he's done in the past, tries to "balance" things. People are already complaining that Red Wings get players to sign for under market value and call it "cheating".

    Why are pens fans mad?

What some people don't get is the Penguins HAD to win. IF they didn't win the cup against a depleted and completely injured Red Wings team, they would be classified as the biggest and complete failures in the history of NHL. Had Penguins lost, it may have cost them their organization... okay, maybe a bit extreme, but it would certainly have hurt the organization and they'd probably be firing some people and making a lot of trades / changes .. fire sale. In honesty, Penguins should have swept the Wings due to all the Wings went through, but Wings just wouldn't lay down and die. They battled on like true champions. Wings are the most winning team in the NHL and if they had won it again back-2-back, Bettman would probably go under major scrutiny and be forced to make changes that would end Detroit's legacy. Bottom line, a healthy Red Wings team is downright unstoppable.

You keep saying the Penguins played better, but the fact is the Red Wings played worse (played at 60%), due to injuries and Stanley cup hangover (which was expected), yet nearly took the prize. I'm not hellbent on saying the Wings "should've" won, just that the njuries the Wings endured was the major factor and stacked against them. I tend to see the glass half full and others see it as half empty. I'm going to give the Red Wings the credit they deserve no matter who it pisses off. May as well put me on ignore if you don't like my optimism. I am going to give the Wings the credit they deserve! Wings playing through what they did (and playing down to the dying seconds) is MUCH - MUCH more incredible than the team that happen to win the prize. Like I said before, due to the fact that Wings seem groggy during the regular season at times, and they seemed to have the "hangover", I didn't expect them to get past the Ducks. Anything more was a bonus!

    Howard to backup next year

DAmn, Conklin was a bargain! I hope Conk shines as a starter on his new team... he's earned it!

    Howard to backup next year

I have not really felt confortable with Howard in net, but hopefully now that he has the chance to play for the big boys, he breaks out and proves why we have the best scouts in the world. How much cash do we save from letting Conks go and bringin in Howard? a million? That;s much needed money for the team

    Samuelsson Selling His House?

Sammy is the type of player that I would cringe and scream his head off, then just our of no-where, he'd score the biggest and most important goal of the game. My love/hate for him is a roller coaster ride

    Why are pens fans mad?

Actually, if you understood the entire situation of the playoffs, then you would express how proud you are of this team and recognize that they battled through more than their opponent and still damn near took it all. You do not seem to get this. No team in the world could accomplish what Detroit did. Wings proved that they are the real deal and will be around for a very long time and will be bringing many more cups home. I'm not going to apologize with the rest of you apologists for the way Detroit battled through and fell short. I'm a realist and understand that Wings may not seem human, but they still bleed blood and feel pain. so, for that, I congratulate them. You should to. What do you do for a living? Imagine how successful you would be at your job if your team lost all the needed elements that require you just to perform your job. Now imagine that not only has your team lost all their elements that require them just to do the job, but you somehow manage to exceed more than your company has ever seen before and come up only 1mm from taking the ultimate prize and nearly closing out the life goal of the CEO on a handicap team? I'm just saying is stop looking at the negative and look at what they accomplished. The Red Wings are a world class hockey club. The are the best in the in the NHL and nearly the best in the NHL standing on one leg with one arm tied behind their back. That's how I view the Penguins win, they barely beat a Red Wings team standing on one leg with one arm tied down... That, my friend, is something to be extremely proud of. Nobody could be as successful at their job with the magnitude adversity the Wings faced. People around here seem to forget this.

    Why are pens fans mad?

I lose my temper when people try to talk s*** about my team. I'll fight tooth and nail and to the death. Lol. I spent the night in jail in Colorado when I was there working back in 1999. I was at a sports bar watching game 6; Wings vs Avs. Some obnoxious fan started talking s*** to me (I was wearing my Yzerman jersey) and I busted him in the nose, then his friend tried to take a swing at me, I kicked his knee and he dropped like a bag of potatoes. Apparently the guys knee that I took out cost him his job because he couldn't do heavy construction work anymore. A nite in jail and the court costs & fines was totally worth it! Moral of the story is don't disrespect my team and we'll get along just fine. And I hate nobody more than bandwagon fans! Anyhow, it's good times thinking about the ups and downs and the entire history that I had in regards to my team Dam I love my team!
