I couldn't disagree more. All the Wings need to do, as a whole, is win games and make the playoffs without getting banged up and injured. That's what they need to do. Bert is welcome to play physical in the playoffs, but right now he needs to play smart and stay healthy. Wings have more than enough bad injuries from key roster players to deal with. Let May and the grind line be the bruisers, that's what they're for.

If you think Lang and Bert are similar or remind you of each other, then you obviously never watched hockey in the Red Wing/Lang days. They are nothing NOTHING alike. Bert has been great defensively and is single handedly responsible for the puck not going in twice so far this season. If not for those defensive plays, chances are Wings would have lost those games. Lang on the other hand was single handedly responsible for losing games by his bone head plays. If he can continue to be defensively strong and if he scores 15 - 20 goals, then he's more than earned his money. Bert has been great so far. Too bad people have unreasonable expectation from everyone on the roster. Some of these new comer fans can not concept NHL as a real human sport; its not NHL10 that you can select your skill level and play on xbox.

Gr8t game tonight. Ozzy was on fire! Why was he not the first star? Wings came out sloppy and just completely droggy in the 1st. I am surprised they weathered the storm. I hope they get their s*** together. There passes were off, the puck was rolling off their sticks (did someone put grease on the blade of all the sticks?) They must have cleaned the grease off the blades of the stick for the 2nd period, cause they dominated the Hawks. The 3rd was brutal with them sitting back trying to hold the lead. Their confidence is down and the chemistry is off... hopefully they'll build on this win!

Thing is, Lebda isn't "useless", he's a good 6th dman. He does bring some offense and he has proven that he can play good in the playoffs. While I agree Lebda isn't playing great now and he's not worth a first round pick, I do believe he has value and isn't "useless" like you claim. Last year when Babcock benched Lebda, he came back solid and showed strong worth ethics. Like I said, he's a fine 6th d-man and isn't overpaid. Wings/Holland get a nice late pick for him. Maybe the kind of pick that lands us a Zetterberg-or-Ericsson-type-player (210th - 291st overall). One can hope.

Anyone remember last year when Lebda got benched by Babcock? When he came back he was solid and complimented the team very well. I hope this happens again. I don't understand all the Lebda hate, he's a good 6th d-man, and cheap. He had some big games for us in the 07-08 and 08-09 cup runs. Granted he's been aweful since the start of the season, I do trust he'll turn it around.

I think the OP's point was we'd have to give up Yzerman for Gretzky in return. I'm glad Yzerman stayed his entire career here... It worked out perfect, the transition was smooth from the Yzerman, Fedorov, Shanny days to the Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen core. That was my fear losing the 80's and 90's core. Now I hope Holland has a aolution for when Lidstrom retires.

In all fairness to the Blues fans, their team played the 'A' game and relied on special teams to win. The Blues worked their asses off and had little room for error... they played the game of the life time. Remember the movie "Miracle"? The Blues were great. On the flip side, they barely won against a sleeping / droggy Red Wings team with a rookie goalie who played his first NHL game as the backup role. Both games were the Red Wings games to lose. They did, give some credit to the Blues... they had something to prove, Red Wings do not. They are still recovering from 3 long seasons. Rest assured, they will fear when they awaken a sleeping giant.

Wings played only six 20-minute periods in the best of 82 games, and we are already deeming them to miss the playoffs. Nice. I blame Granholm for cutting the funds for Michigan education.
