Like I said in another post, if you like violent-beat 'em up sports, then UFC has it all in one cage. I can't fathom people who would prefer a team that finishes the bottom 20 every year and never makes the playoffs just so they can show off some male-ego / testosterone by beating up everyone else. Not that it matters, but I for one enjoy a winning hockey club over anything else. And, honestly, I have enjoyed the Wings success more during the post-lockout than the 1990s version of the Red Wings. I like to watch hockey! I don't enjoy short seasons, I enjoy long seasons.

If tough(er) guys were needed, we'd have them. They are a dime-a-dozen. Wings beat tough teams, so I guess soft/tough argument is irrelevant. Unless people like violent sports, then they can switch over to the UFC. On the flip side, I think all those Red Wings who played though the finals this year with all those injuries are pretty damn 'tough, more tough than the average scrub / goon. I remember Kurt Russell's quote in the movie "Miracle" -- "I'm not looking for the best players, Craig. I'm looking for the right ones". Bottom line, Holland is doing a ******* amazing job!

If Wings are so soft and fragile, then why have they been BY FAR the most winning and best team in the entire league since post-lockout. If it takes a soft and fragile team to walk to the WCF and SCF year-after-year as Red Wings do, then wouldn't one think building a "soft" team is the best possible way to go? If winning isn't the ultimate goal to strive for in the NHL, then what is?

Someone should take $50 rolls of dimes to a Hawks game (on their ice) and throw 500 dimes on the ice during the game. This would be a good way to give Kane his dimes back... that he is so worried about. How long would it take for them to pick up 500 dimes off the ice? Make sure it's a game when they're playing the Penguins, kill two birds with one stone. Ha

I think some people here expect Williams to be a Hossa replacement. Haha! Williams will score more goals AND points than Sammy will for $1 million less of a cap hit; for only a ONE year contract. People don't get that. Williams @ $1.5 for a whopping one year contract is a bargain.

I think it be between flip and Williams. I hope all these guys break 20 goals each.

Sammy awarded $2.5 million had 40 pts in 08/09 Williams awarded $1.5 million had 47 pts in 08/09 Of course you could argue play-off performance; Sammy had a better playoff performance in 2009, but then again, Sammy was on the best team in the league and made it to the 7th game of the finals. Whereas Williams played on an over-achieving team that was swept by the best team in the league. 1.5 mil 47 pt producer > 2.5 mil 40 pt producer. Its a no-brainer, really.

Apparently people here don't watch hockey outside of the Red Wings. Try this some time, take off your red & white goggles and watch hockey and other players (who are not on the Red Wings) objectively. You'll be amazed how much you can learn.

Because Holland is the best GM in the sport of hockey. And the best GMs finds the best bargains available (post-hudler fiasco). A 20+ goal scorer for one-year @ $1.5 is a ******* bargain. Apparently there are a lot of hockey illiterates here who can not concept it.

$1.5 million for a 20+ goal scorer --VS-- $2.5 million 15-19 goal scorer. Williams is a bargain! Sammy is WAY overpaid. Williams is the better bargain.

$500,000 is an absolute STEAL!!! This kid has great potential and worse case scenario, he'll score 16 goals. Even if he gets injured and flops, 500,000 won't break the bank. Here's to another Cleary story!!! :thumbsup:

Right on. This is how the Wings got the likes of Cleary and Sammy. This could be good for Patrick Eaves' career if he works hard and takes advantage of this opportunity.

So far off, huh? William made $2.2. And there are reports that said Red Wings offered him $2.5. Guess that isn't "so far off", now is it? Grier made $1.7, how would him sign for less be "so far off"? He's 34 and didn't play the entire season last year. But he did put up 23pts in 62 games. Mats Sundin, how much do you pay a 39 y/o with injury issues and on the decline? He's a health risk and may play 70 games if lucky. May play 40 or less, who knows...? Unless you think 3 million is too much for him? Well, I'm pretty sure he could demand $3 million from a desperate team and get it. He could still put up over a .5 pt per game. His contract is probably the most debatable of the 3, since there are players like Islanders with the cash flow to be ridiculous. Now tell me how much you think these aforementioned players will get, I want to see how "far off" you are.
