Whoa, dude.... this isn't NHL '09! Mats is gonna demand $3 - 3.5 million William is gonna demand $2.5 or go to the KHL Grier is going to get over $1.5 million s***, if Holland lived in your fantasy land; Hossa woulda signed for $4 million and Hudler for $2 million. Try again with legit contracts...
-
While Wings fan ***** about Filppula, there's probably 29 other teams that would welcome him with open arms. I'm sure glad Flip wears the Wing'd wheel!
-
Wait, weren't these guys still under contract in the NHL? KHL is having a very productive season taking a handful of NHL players. Wonder if this trend continues to grow... Could this eventually destroy the NHL?
-
The contract between Chicago and Hossa isn't the issue. The issue is did they have a gentleman's agreement under the table about early retirement? That's what is under investigation. Apparently there is a disgruntled rat in the Chicago with the inside scoop, and ratted it out. Chicago has so much front office issues that it's not even funny, it could infect the entire team if not taken care of immediately. Can NHL gather enough information to penalize Chicago? It's hard to say, this isn't the court of law... so maybe hear-say (in addition to the suspicious looking contract) is sufficient enough evidence to escalate the matter. Then again, this could just be a bluff to make other GMs weary about long term (front loaded) contracts. But one thing is for sure, this puts a damper on Chicago's next years RFA signings. They are under the scope and won't be able to pull off Toews, Keith and Kane with front loaded contracts like they had originally planned.

I've been saying all along that Flip will have a break out season when he gets a legit chance. He'll be a force! Mark my words.
-
Wow, just wow! So... does the fine count against their cap?

I think most of these rumors that people are posting on LGWs is more of an "author's opinion" to get more clicks to their website. I hold no legitimacy to any of these rumors being posted on LGWs left and right multiple times per day. I think if Kenny had a hardon to sign someone, he would have done so by now. I seriously think Holland won't be doing any signings for the Red Wings roster until after camp.
-
Yes he is. Jason Williams is a frustrating player to watch. I was never very fond of him and he was LGWs official whipping boy.
-
^ Who said I'm joking? That would be a dream come true.
-
Maybe Chicago will make a 6 million 16 year pitch for him and we get a draft pick. That would be a dream come true!
-
Rangers can have him. I expect Holland to find the missing piece at camp.... which will come at a much, much cheaper price. Wings don't need 30-40 goal scorer, they need to play overall better team defense. They were sloppy when they had Hossa. I liked the 2007/08 team better than the 2008/09 team.

$2.5 million seems a bit high for a 39 y/o on the decline.
-
Capgeek.com has Detroit at $1.8 million and Penguins at $1.8 million (after bonuses) and both teams have a 21 man roster.

So what you're saying is if Red Wings sign Prospal (at a logical salary), they'll still be over the cap limit -- even if they send Abby down and trade/waive Lebda? Wings don't need a 2nd liner. Our top six is just fine with Datsuyk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Holmstrom, Fillipula, and Cleary. Wings could use a solid 3rd liner if they want to send Abby back to GR. Oulahen and McGrath must play or clear waivers, and we could potentially lose them on waivers. So I think Holland plans to give them a shot at camp and go from there. *IF* they don't pan out, rumor has it that Mike Grier would love to come to Detroit. Wings will still be the top 3 team in our division, I don't think Holland needs to break the bank to get players we don't need. Our depth is still very strong.
-
I find that hard to believe. Hudler's cap hit was only $1,015,000. Prospal, despite popular belief, will fetch over $2.5 million+ and will likely get it. Prospal isn't going to sign with the Red Wings for under $600,000 per year. I know some here think all players are willing to take 20% of their fair market value to play on the Wings and will likely flame me for having logic, but he's not gonna sign for under 600k and there are better options for the Wings than his $2.5 million+ price tag. Not gonna happen.

Mike Grier's agent says he's 'interested' in Red Wings

Cool, a black version of Maltby. Just what the Wings need! -
He's not going to be in the open market for long. My guess he goes to the Pens to boost their 2nd line.
-
Not a big concern, really. Chicago has bigger things to worry about. Like Hossa's disappearing magic tricks he likes to perform during the playoffs. And the fact that they lost their top playoff performer Havlat for a no-show Hossa. Or getting mail sent out on time... cap space, etc.. Hossa's shoulder is the least of Chicago's worries right now.

Why do people here think Boston would want Filppula? They could Kessel for nearly the same money, but either way, neither player addresses Boston's cap problems. Boston is having MAJOR cap issues and the last thing they want is another 3.5 million dollar salary to deal with. Kessel isn't coming to Detroit. So keep playing the NHL09 where you can make unrealistic signings and trades. Cap world is real in the real NHL world, which is why Kessel isn't coming to Detroit. Holland might look for one more 1 million dollar player to fill a hole and that's it. Expect Oulahen and McGrath to fill the other two holes.
-
Manny is an UFA and without his salary, Boston only has $1.1 million with a 22 man roster. Hardly "all of the cap space in the world".
-
Kessel isn't coming folks. Stop this madness, you're setting yourself for up heartbreak. First of all, we don't have cap room. Second of all, Wings don't have the players Boston want. Remember, Boston is WAYYYYY over their cap space right now, so why would they want Fil or Kronwall and the other names thrown around on here, when they need to improve their cap space? It appears they NEED to cut their cap space and probably want top prospects. What top prospect do the Wings have that can go to Boston? Helm? Abby? Ericsson? We need those guys so WE are NOT over our cap. Drake_Markus has a very plausable theory behind Boston's madness:
