the comparison is idiotic and I wish everyone would shut up about it. seems the majority of this board agrees with me. Comparing the 80s oilers with today's Penguins is laughable...and buying into the Crosby hype by comparing him to gretsky is even worse. He's not even the best player on his team for crying out loud.

QF MOTHERf***ING T!!! And it's going to get worse during the games. First of all, no, they aren't. Malkin might turn out that good, but Crosby will never touch Gretzky. Please. Second of all...if you want to make that comparison, is MAF equal to Grant Fuhr? Who are Jari Kurri and Paul Coffey? Last i checked i'm pretty sure they don't have a 100+ point defenseman winning the Norris this year...nor do they have anyone close to Kurri as a 3rd forward. It's just a stupid stupid comparison that is all about Bettman's obsession with making Crosby his own Michael Jordan. And it's laughable to consider this team the equal of the 84/85 Oilers who had the second best record in the league and were the #2 overall seed in the playoffs. They had become a juggernaut and were establishing a dynasty. The Penguins are lucky the East is full of so many mediocre teams that don't play defense. So ENOUGH ALREADY!

Because the fourth lines they see in the east would never see the ice in Detroit. Our 3rd/4th lines = 2nd lines on most of the teams Pittsburgh has played...and rolling Crosby/Malkin/Satan out there as your "fourth" line is going to end up getting them burned in the 3rd period. The primary difference is they'll HAVE to play defense as well as offense against us at all times...something neither really excels at. look at the stat above...they NEVER play on the pk! Why? Because they can't!! Look at who plays on ours...Zetterberg, Dats, Hossa, etc. Completely different philosophies...and they are going to relearn real quick that they don't get to just skate up and down the ice all night....they will end up on their ass more in the first four games of this series than they have in the entire playoffs so far.

bingo. rewatch that goal...Kane was just below the face off spot when he shot that...much farther away that it looked initially...it was just an incredible shot. Lebda was right on him and DID push him wide...he just made an amazing play. Anyone who tries to put that on Lebda is nuts or just a hater.

Frankly...i far prefer lebda to Lilja...the latter was a liability last year in the finals and he would be again this year. Lebda played his ass off last night - 25 minutes!!!! - and deserves to play at this point. Word is that Game 2 will be at 8pm if the Lakers beat the Nuggets in 6. If the NBA series goes 7 games, the Wings game will be at 7pm to avoid overlap.

In the post game presser Babcock was asked about what he thought about the Blackhawks being so young and what their potential was and said to the effect: "Kane is a good kid and a solid NHL player, but the guy you build a team around is the Toews kid...he has to be the #1 priority. I know they have some cap issues and they'll decide on the goalie situation so next year isn't too bad, but I think in 2 years it gets ugly and they'll have to make some tough choices." He was referring specifically to the salary cap and the quote I recall for sure is "In two years it is going to get ugly for them"....what's the deal on all that? Will the be able to keep Kane and Toews long term? And which do you think is the higher priority? Personally, I think Kane gets more credit than he deserves and is a bit of a hot dog...he has a lot of growing up to do. Toews on the other hand is a very very good player who is going to be a star. Otherwise I'm aware of the Huet/Khabibulin issues...but what others are there? Doesn't Campbell make a ridiculous amount...someone told me the other day he made as much as Lidstrom?!?!??!

and I guess i fail to see why this is such a giant deal....both teams have to play back to back right? It's not like they've been off for 3 days already or something....just one more than us. If Lidstrom and Datsyuk are seriously hurt...having a day off between games 1 and 2 wouldn't matter anyway. :shrug:

This doesn't have anything to do with the NBA finals...it has everything to do with Conan O'Brien...as I mentioned at the end of the game thread, Bettman doesn't have anything to do with the decision in the end. it's all about NBC and Conan Obrien's debut w/ the tonight show next week. That's it. the ******* Tonight Show is dictating the schedule of the stanley cup finals. I guess you could say it is Bettman's fault to some extent since he's responsible for the tv deal...god that needs to be reworked BADLY. But as it is, if game 1 was this weekend, NBC would have to air game 2 on tuesday and run the risk of OT pushing back COnan's second night for who knows how long...and they know OT is extremely likely at least once in the series. So they put games 1 and 2 this weekend, and games 3 and 4 will be on Versus to avoid any conflict with Conan. Games 5-7 if necessary will all be on NBC. So that's it...if you want to write an letter...send it to Conan O'Brien and the geniuses at NBC.

Conan O'Brien is responsible. NBC doesn't want the games to interfere with the 11:30 start of his first week. unbelievable. But I figure both teams have to play back to back, and no one has more depth than us as was proven tonight. Yep. The amazing thing is that the refs were actually fairly restrained in the last half of the game given the incredible amounts of gooning it up the Hawks were committing. They were just plain out of control unlike anything i've ever seen.
