if i were you i'd be more worried about lidstrom retiring than "old man guerin". guerin's good but he can be replaced. lidstrom is a once in 50 year type player. you won't ever be the same and i don't think anyone on your current roster could fully replace him. stuart, rafalski (who is 36), kronwell, etc. - none of those guys have the same skills as lidstrom. we have sidney, malkin and fluery as the cornerstone of our franchise - they are all young so we'll be here for a while. NJ was never the same after another once in 50 year player named Scott Stevens retired.
-
yeah thanks for the news flash. i meant the current wings dynasty. this run began in 1995 when you got SWEPT. wings fans were arrogant back then about how great they were. they still are today. our dynasty will start - maybe not this year but soon. and we won't have the embarrasment of being swept in a SCF. at least we won two games.
-
at least he didn't get swept in his first finals like a certain team that i know.
-
who cares? is it malkin and crosby' fault that your two top scorers zetterberg and franzen suck in comparison? scoring depth is scoring depth. this means they are getting contributions from a lot of their players. i never said that the scoring is balanced - that's a different story. some of you guys are saying we are a one line team - i am merely pointing out that we are not.
-
the problem is you just assume the great and mighty wings are unmatched in depth. the stats don't tell the story. thus far in the playoffs: number of players with 10 points or more: Pens -6 Wings - 6 number of players with 4 goals or more: Pens -5 Wings -6 so there you go folks, the wings have so much depth let's just give up. last year in the playoffs, after FOUR rounds, the pens only had 6 players with 6 goals or more and 5 players with 10 or more points. this pens have no depth talk is nonsense.
-
this is stupid talk. you say the pens lose x, y and z and have only gained a, b and c so therefore they are not as good as they were last year? this is isn't a math class.
-
you people have a serious reading comprehension problem. i never said the pens were a lock for the cup. it is many of you who think the wings have this in the bag. some of you are sensible and are saying it will be a close series.
-
so who cares? all i hear from you people is your depth. you won last night without some importance pieces, right? so what's the excuse now?
-
no one plays hockey on paper. and the series was close last year if you take away the first 2 games in which the inexperience factor played a big role. bottom line is you guys were good last year but not great. by how y'all talk, you should have swept the "inferior" pens or at least won in 5. and when we got to our first final (for the current team) we didn't choke like you did against the devils. that was perhaps the biggest choke job in all of sports. remember the yanks lost in 01 to the inferior d-backs and again to the marlins. the pats lost to the giants. it can happen this year too.
-
how are we a one line wonder? we have 2 good scoring lines centered by crosby and malkin. plus the staal line can kick a few goals every now and then. some of you have no clue. now anaheim is a one line team. their strength was defense. their forwards are so so and their goalie is a new playoff goalie who looked very average at times. fluery is a very good goalie on the other hand. look no one is going to bow down to the mighty red wings. that's what you all want, right? it's as if no other team in the NHL even exists. too bad you people can't make cars the way you trash talk. you want the cup - you'll have to beat us for it....that is if you make it. but of course quenville is a retard and the hawks have no goaltending so that shouldn't be an issue.
-
lol that was last year. how about those 40 foot slap shots that osgood used to let in 10 years ago? the past is the past. move on, ok?
-
do you people have some sort of reading problem up there in Michigan? i never said the wings weren't good because they took 7 games to beat anaheim - i said vulnerable. this means that the wings are not as invincible as ya'll think. if the ducks can make a good series with detroit, we can too. that's all im' saying.
-
just because it was hard nosed doesn't mean it wasn't a fluke. that was an easily stoppable shot but because hiller sucks the puck went in.
-
and if cleary doesn't score a fluke goal on hiller the ducks would have won. so what' your point?
-
these red wings fans who think the cup is theirs are so foolish. i think we are as good as the ducks team they had trouble against.
-
ms hockey, as far as the anaheim series is concerned, we have more depth than the ducks up front. yes they have a better defense but we have better goaltending. hiller sucks- how many fluke goals did he give up to the wings? fleury on the other hand wlll be one of team canada's goalies next year. we are just as good as the ducks and perhaps better coached. believe me when i say we can make a good series out of this with you.
-
you speak with complete arrogance. what's going to happen to your wings when lidstrom retires in a few years? he's 39 - he won't keep up his stellar play forever. rafalski is 36. your forwards are fairly young but you won't have any good puck moving defensemen down the line like lidstrom or rafalski. osgood is old too.
-
the fact that you couldn't put a ducks team away in 5 or 6 shows you are vulnerable. the team has not played with the same heart they played last year. it's foolish to think that just because a team reaches the conference finals that they've played with heart and determination. maybe they have some killer instinct but not as much heart as i've seen in the past.
-
yeah and babcock won a final and he choked in another, so let's wait and see before we crown him as the next scotty. the guy could be a product of his own team. and i wasn't crowing about any numbers. if i remember correctly, i said that numbers can be misleading esp. goals against since teams can get better as the playoffs progress. i just think your analysis is meaningless - all it is is chest beating based on paper.
-
this is so meaningless it's not even funny. and you don't necessarily have a big edge in coaching. bylsma is good.
-
with all that "depth" you had last year and all the depth that we lacked, we still made it a pretty good 6 game series. the last four games in the SCF were close games decided by 1 goal. fleury was not as good as he is this year, and malkin is playing a lot better. we can make this a long series with you guys. the best team on paper doesn't always win. i'm a pats fan so i know. the team with more heart will win. detroit lacks that killer instinct and heart that they've shown in years past.
-
teams can get better as the playoffs progress. the number of goals we've allowed in the last series is much less than what we did in the first two rounds. plus we had to deal with an offensive machine in ovechkin in round 2, whereas the wings did not. toews and kane are no where near as good as ovechkin. we did what we had to do against him and moved on. plus you guys played agaqinst a miserable columbus team that shouldn't even count as a playoff team. anaheim was good but chicago is just slightly above average. we played a pretty tough flyers and caps team before meeting an average canes team.
-
you got to realize too that i believe if it weren't for the pens inexperience last year the series would have gone 7. we were shell shocked at playing in the finals and lost the first two games as a result. the last four games were all decided by 1 goal. so this pens team, which is better than last year's, can hang with the wings. they just needed some experience and better coaching. bylsma is much better than therrien and has the team playing better defensively - they are blocking shots and backchecking better than last year. detroit does not look as dominant this year. that's possibly due to datsyuk not playing well.
-
first of all let just say that i agree with the wings fans who say stats are irrelevant. to me they are irrelevant in every major sport. let me also say that detroit is not as invincible as they were last year. they beat an easy columbus team and are about to beat an very inexperienced chicago team. however, they almost lost to an 8th seeded team. they have shown vulnerabilities at times in the playoffs. this is not the 2001-2002 red wings team that was so highly skilled. you are a puck possession team who capitalizes on mistakes. pittsburgh is a team that is playing incredibly well too. your championship is not in the bag. and most of you wings fans are acting way too cocky. no team in sports is unbeatable. you too were a team that got schooled by the devils only to learn from experience to put together your run over the past 12 seasons.
