first, the hockeytown thing is overrated. i would venture to say that the fans in pittsburgh, raleigh, toronto and montreal are more passionate about their teams. and as far as the caps taking us to 7, yeah they're a good team. they have a superstar like ovechkin, a kind of player you guys don't have. you may not find that 7 game series impressive for Pitt, but i don't find it impressive that you had to go to 3 OT games against the hawks, a team clearly playing over their heads. so keep the trash talk coming.

i can't understand you. you first say that the hawks are bad without khabibulin then go on to say that i am the one downplaying the wings' opponents to make myself feel better. yeah makes plenty of sense. the hawks beat you a number of times during the regular season, so they are pretty good with Khabibulin. if it weren't for the OT game (game 2), the series could be tied right now. the wings played 4 games in this series and only outplayed the hawks in 2. and the caps are decent team with a highly prolific offense. caps-pens games are tough, and varlamov came and played on his head. if it weren't for him, the series would have been over in 5 or 6. the caps defense is not that bad - they have mike greene who is a norris candidate. and we took care of a carolina team who beat a good devils and bruins team.[/

i don't know what's with you wings fans and this reading thing. khabi isn't even playing tonight, so yes the wings will have an easy win over an ahl-caliber goalie - Huet or whomever. i don't care much for stats. in fact, i have not really used many stats to back up my arguments. all i know is that fluery is playing well enough for us to have a shot at winning. it's the timeliness of his saves that are more important. the one he had against ovechkin in game 7 comes to mind.

i'm sorry but you won't go very far without lidstrom. lidstrom has a cup without stevie whereas stevie has won nothing without him. for all your "depth," lidstrom is the heart of your team. once he goes, the team simply cannot replace him...in fact no team can. these guys you draft like kronwall, etc. won't even come close to filling in for him. it is much more difficult to replace a player like lidstrom, stevens, niedermayer than it is to find someone to fill in for Stevie. there are plenty of good centermen but few(rare) really outstanding defensemen.

before you write the wings as the next cup winner, you people better win the current series. teams have come from 3-1 to win before. this would easily be a six game series if khabibulin were playing. instead, you get to shoot pucks at some AHL caliber goalie. we're waiting.

what superstars do you have other than lidstrom? daytsuk, zetterberg and hossa are stars , not superstars. there are only three superstar forwards in this league - crosby, malkin and ovechkin. those three are going to the HOF. none of the red wings forwards are.

i think that analysis is wrong. i think detroit is probably deeper up front and on D. Osgood - meh. he's good when the D in front of him is good. he'll never be a goalie like brodeur or hasek in his prime but good enough to win. i think though that the x-factor in all this is the pens desire to win. to me that's the biggest thing. you can have all the talent you want but heart > talent. i never predicted the pens would beat the wings but i do think they have a shot. i was not overwhelmed with the way detroit played in games 3-6 last year.

the western conference is not all that it's cracked up to be. the wings are good and the ducks are ok (suspect goaltending and one line). the bruins are better than the sharks. the devils are better than the blackhawks. i think both conferences overall are fairly even. this notion that the west is better than the east used to be true in the late 90s but it's just a fantasy now.

lindstrom won't do anything since there is no player named lindstrom. now lidstrom might not even play tomorrow so it would be interesting to see who picks it up. zetterberg?

who cares if playoff games are sold out? you could sell as many tickets as you want but the question is the stadium at full capacity on game day? people can buy tickets but not show up, etc. i see empty seats at the joe.

it doesn't matter which conference is stronger. all that matters is who is holding the cup at the end. last time i checked within the past 10 years, 4 cup winners were from the West and 4 from the East. i could careless how strong anaheim is unless they win the cup this year. you could have 8 strong western conference teams and 1 really strong eastern conference teams (and 7 bad ones)that beats the west winner.

all i'm saying is give the pens a chance and most of you say i'm trolling. it's as if you cannot question the red wings chances of winning the cup. the people here need to grow up and realize that the NHL is not about the red wings. the wings have only been successful for the past 15 years - before that they were nothing. even now the wings have empty seats at the Joe during playoff time.
