When Pavel Met Evgeni--The turning point of the series
87to71 replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Well the hockey season either has 24 or 96 hours to go I for one hope it's the latter...Hold serve at home and take your chances Friday night trying to win one game out of four in Detroit... -
Well he has to start putting more pucks in the net and creating more chances much like he did in games 3 and 4.
-
I dont think that at all and I know the Penguins are going to have to as I said before rip the Wings ******* hearts out in both game 6 and especially game 7 if they are going to win this series. Im still reading on here from a lot of Wings fans and a lot of Wings fans that I know personally that think this series is over tomorrow night and that the Wings are going to roll over the Pens once again like they did in Game 5. One thing is for sure this Pens team is resilient and have been all year long. They battled back from 10th place in the middle of February all the way to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the defending champs. They have a lot of character and are a very dangerous team when their backs are against the wall. They will not hand the Wings anything especially in their own building for a 2nd consecutive season...
-
I agree it probably does which is all the more reason why I believe that Marc Andre Fleury has to be the best player on the ice for the Penguins in both Game 6 and Game 7 if there is one. If he is not then the Penguins are not going to win this series it's that simple...

It was a dirty hit and the Pens were frustrated as hell at the time it happened. At the same time Datsyuk had to expect the Penguins to target him and his foot at some point during the game. The Pens will be better and more disciplined in Game 6 and game 7 if there is one. They have to be otherwise the Wings are going to end up skating with the Cup once again... -
It sure is and Im speaking more in terms of scoring goals and setting up scoring chances then I am in terms of leading things in the locker room. You can say whatever you want too in the locker room these last 2 potential games here and it wont mean anything. If Crosby wasnt a leader he wouldnt be the youngest Captain in the history of the NHL to lead his team to 2 straight Stanley Cup Finals. I know a lot of people get on the guys ass about whining and bitching a lot but let's stop and give the guy a little bit of credit here too...
-
I agree and may the best team win the whether it be tomorrow night and if there happens to be a game 7. Believe me I know how good the Wings are and I know more then anything that the Penguins are literally going to have to rip the Wings ******* hearts out into a million pieces if there is a game 7 Friday night to win the Stanley Cup on their home-ice.
-
They probably would but too bad that isnt going to happen. This series is going back to Detroit on Friday night. The Wings might win game 7 in Detroit and hoist the cup but the Pens arent going to allow them to do it for a 2nd time in a 370 day span on their home-ice...I said at the start of this series it was destined for 7 games and Im not backing off now...

We will see how Datsyuk plays tomorrow night having the extra two days rest. The Penguins are definitely going to come after him a lot more in Game 6 I believe then they did in Game 5. It will be interesting to see how Babcock matchups up Datsyuk with Malkin and Zetterberg with Crosby again... -
It's why it would make it all the more sweeter for the Penguins to win this series in 7 games and have Crosby leading the way skating the Cup around the Joe. I wonder if the Wings fans would be chanting Crosby sucks then. I know a lot of the Wings fans on another board were complaining about how classless the Penguins fans were last year when they won at Mellon Arena. That couldnt have been further from the truth being that I was at the game last year and saw majority of the Pens fans giving the Wings and their players a lot of respect while skating the cup around.

Like I said Im not worried I expect the calls to even out more in game 6 and there to be a lot more 5 on 5 hockey. The one that irritated me was the one on Kunitz before the end of the 1st period which eventually lead to the Fillpulla goal to start the 2nd. The Penguins pretty much had no chance in that 2nd period because they spent close to half the period on the penalty kill. I know you're not going to beat a great team like the Red Wings when stuff like that is happening. I thought the Pens carried the majority of the play in the first 10-15 minutes of the game and had some golden chances until the Wings killed off that power play and Cleary got the first goal. After that it was all downhill... -

He also mentioned that the Wings could have probably had 4 power plays in the 3rd period that they didnt call. I agree with you he is very good at bitching and whining without making it real noticable. I guess if you're an opposing teams fan I guess you see that more then a Wings fan would which is understandable. And I do agree with you that Therrien was a whiner and a complainer 100 percent I couldnt stand the guy... -

I know one thing should the Pens go onto to win Game 6 tomorrow night I dont want to hear Mike Babcock coming out after the game whining and bitching about his team not getting enough power play calls as the reason why the Wings lose. I didnt hear Babcock saying s*** after the game the other night when the Wings got 9 power plays and scored on 3 of them. He has to expect that tomorrow's game is going to be more closely called and that the Penguins being on home-ice and not getting the majority of the calls in Game 5 are going to get more of the calls in their favor tomorrow night. If Babcock comes out like he did after game 3 saying they got the one power play in the 3rd and we didnt and that's the reason the Wings lost which is what he pretty much said without saying it since Babcock is very good at doing stuff like that then somebody should tell Babcock yea and you guys got 9 power plays in Game 5 so shut up and quit complaining. You cant have it both ways is all Im saying. -
True and I know him being in the lineup is going to make the Wings a much better team playing in Pittsburgh tomorrow night then the 2 games last week. The Wings have to expect the Pens to bring their absolute best tomorrow night seeing that they dont want them to skate with the cup on their ice for the 2nd straight year and the Pens should expect the same from the Wings seeing that they want to close it out in Pittsburgh for a 2nd straight year. The Wings will see a much better Pens team in Game 6 that will be more disciplined and be more focused and ready to go then the other night in Detroit...

I agree a lot of the Pens fans like myself thought the Staal short handed goal in Game 4 was also the turning point of the series and look how that turned out. Like Guerin said the other day the Penguins had all the momentum going into Game 5 as well and look how that turned out. The bottom line is Game 5 while it was a great win for the Red Wings and Im sure is going to give them a huge boost going into game 6 that game is over now and come tomorrow night when the puck drops what Datsyuk did to Malkin in Game 5 wont mean anything... -
I wouldnt be so sure about that at least not in Pittsburgh anyway. The Wings both times in Games 3 and 4 had 2-1 leads late in the first period and early in the 2nd period and appeared to have taken control of the game only to see both leads vanish which lead to the Wings losing both games. This series is just destined for 7 games I believe. The Wings may win the Cup which right now I think they have an excellent chance of doing more so then the Penguins, but the Penguins lead by Crosby and Malkin will not let the Wings do it again on their home-ice for the 2nd straight year.
-
Im speaking of in terms of number of days off this series...Why does everyone have to keep bringing up the Hawks and Ducks series and who the Pens played?? Does it matter now who the Wings beat to get here?? Is it going to help them win the next 2 games they need to win?? Stop talking about the Ducks and Hawks yayyyyyy we know they were ******* awesome and unstoppable and you guys beat them....You want a cookie
-
I noticed this too that a lot of the Wings players appeared to be leaving the ice with their heads hung low and looking like they had not much fight left in them. I guess we will find out come Saturday night just how much of this is really true based on how the Wings come out and play game 5...
-
The Penguins have played the same exact schedule with only one extra day off then the Wings...People need to stop using the early schedule as an excuse to why the Wings are losing now. Funny I didnt hear anybody saying this s*** on Sunday night after the Wings were up 2-0. People were saying they won because they were the superior team then the Pens and their depth was too much for the Pens to handle. Now all of a sudden the Wings after losing two games are tired and fans are blaming the schedule...You cant have it both ways fellas...
-
I know this series is far from over man believe me. I know how good the Wings are and how the Penguins are going to have to be at the top of their game to beat them in 2 of the possible next 3 games...I can say the samething about the Wings as well. If they continue to keep doing the things they have been doing such as turning the puck over, the Pens being more physical, and guys like Hossa not scoring they will have a very hard time winning this series...I love how people just assumed cause Hossa had huge games 4's against the Jackets,Ducks, and Hawks that it was an absolute lock that he was going to light the Pens up last night and score 3 or 4 goals...There is a lot of pressure on Hossa right now if you ask me to start producing in this Final based on his comments he made when he went to the Wings...
-
They made a comment last night that this is the least penalized finals in the last 60 years. And Wings fans were the ones at the start of this series who were saying as long as the refs dont decide the outcome everything will be fine. Wouldnt you know it the Wings fans are the ones crying about the refs and not getting enough calls after 4 games. Correct me if Im wrong but didnt the Wings have 4 power plays to the Pens 2 last night?? And gave up a short handed goal too?? There are some very smart intelligent Wings fans on this site but for the ones that still keep saying that Chicago and Anaheim are still better then the Penguins are just flat out dumb. Ive even had a few Wings fans on here post me in private messages and they know who they are that anybody who says that anymore is just flat out blind...
-
Detroit looks worn down and tired to me. The Pens are starting to frustrate them more and more with their physical play. What unlucky calls tonight you talking about?? The Wings had 4 power plays and had 4 straight minutes of power play time in the 2nd when they were up 1 and let up a short handed goal. Plus, you got Draper back tonight too so does that not count for being more healthy?? Tell Datsyuk to go quit making jokes about drinking beer and quit being a ***** and suck it up and play. It still wont matter even if he does come back he wont help the Wings win this series much like Draper was a non factor tonight as well...Pens in 6
-
Fail once again...How about two 5 on 5 goals tonight and a short handed goal after the Wings got handed 4 straight minutes of Power play time up 2-1 in the 2nd with a chance to ice the game away...Keep em coming you're on a roll here...
-
Still think the Hawks are more resilient then the Pens after tonight ******?? Yea it will be nice to win the Cup on home-ice and if the Pens keep playing like they are now and frustrating and out physicalling the Red Wings the Cup will be won on home ice at Mellon Arena Tuesday night in Pittsburgh. I love the Penguins chances now of going into Detroit and stealing game 5 whether Datsyuk plays in that game or not...
-
The Wings arent going to win this series if Hossa doesnt start scoring it's really that simple. You know that Datsyuk is going to play now on Saturday night because the Wings are going to treat it like a Game 7 knowing that if they lose in Detroit on Saturday that they are going to be in big big trouble coming back to Pittsburgh for Game 6 with the Penguins having a chance to clinch the cup on home-ice. The Red Wings right now look worn down and you can tell are starting to get more frustrated with how physical the Penguins are playing. They are really starting to take it to the Red Wings...
