I am SHOCKED. This is absolutely terrific. Lids/Raf for 2 years. Kronner and Stu for 4 years. Chelly can boss around any combination of Lebda/Lilja/Meech/Quincey/Ericsson, or Babs can experiment. THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!!!!!!!!!!!! I said this yesterday... it is a great time to be a Red Wings fan. (insert understatement comment here)

Actually, that whole post was fairly lame. Tampa's attendance was excellent this year.

Any thoughts on who will be the next assistant coach?

Thank you for putting the previous stupid post in its place. -
Some of you need to be slapped.

Yikes... ... the only thing I can agree with is that we need someone who can match size and fighting against Anaheim, Calgary and (to a much lesser extent) San Jose... none of which we had to face this year (and in consecutive order, no less). Can we get a Bertuzzi-type player, without the cancer?

Yeah, but many idiots on this board don't see that big picture. They just assume that he's too old, and therefore is lazy and sucks. I wish we could have seen just how much better Jiri Fischer would have improved, because I loved watching him pair with Chelios in 2002. That said, I absolutely love the rare occasions where Chelios and Lidstrom are paired together.

Such short memories people have. One bad series against Dallas and that's all we hear about. Turn in your Red Wings Fan card and get off of this message board. We have enough members with severe ADD here.

This post is SPOT-ON. I had just moved to California after the Habs won the Cup, and watching the Kings flounder was pretty bad. Worse was they beat the Wings 10-3 at the Forum.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=11413 No Red Wings players, but we're heartless, anyway...

Great post. Very well put.

Pretty much what I was getting at...

Michigan player that will fistfight with Z this year. Mark my words.

Awesome! I love the Professor. How's his wine? I can't find any reviews.

It was I, and what's wrong with changing names? This one is very appropriate.

Someone needs to clock that punk. Is it too early in the celebration for the "Wings need toughness" threads?
-
That about sums it up for me. Thanks for stopping by, folks. Nothing more to see here. Have a good night.

And you do NOT want Kalinin here.

You people saying that he is finished piss me off. I think he was EXCELLENT on the penalty kill this season, and while the mistakes he made in the playoffs this year were both noticeable and atrocious, to say that he is finished is just untrue. Why NOT have players in part-time roles? I don't even like seeing Norris Nick playing as many games as he does. Why not let some guys play alongside Chelios and cycle out as the 6th D-man?

Slam-dunk post of the week. I agree. I was very impressed with Derek Meech when the Wings were here in Buffalo. I'd love to see a rotation of Chelios/Ericsson/Meech/Quincey (should he/they stay) for the 6th man. Chelios will be a great mentor to these guys, and I see more potential in them then Brett Lebda, who may only fill the role of speedy D who improves on his outlet pass and puck control through traffic.

Outstanding.

Agreed. While I agreed with some of you that Draper and Maltby should have received 2 year deals instead of 3, they were simply awesome this post-season. McCarty WAS great against Nashville (I'm glad one of you remembered that), and I'm so sick and tired of Chelios' value (especially his solid play during the regular season) being overlooked by the announcers, that when I read it on this forum, I automatically equate your hockey value to that of Doc and Eddie. So suck on that.

No pic, no believy. /fail

I am already sick of this thread, and I'm only 5 posts in. "Trade Sammy." "I'd rather trade Maltby." Look, I had my doubts about Dallas Drake midway through the season, but the fact is our depth players stepped up in the playoffs, and did so big-time. Even McCarty had flashes of brilliance with Huddles and Helmer. There's not much I'd change about this team right now. We can improve in size (we all saw how well Stuart made Kronwall more effective), and even Lillypads was a solid (though he had his moments) replacement for Chelios. This team continues to move in the right direction. Be happy.

Not true. He took some penalties, but for a guy who has hardly played was very good in the Nashville series, and had good chemistry with Huddles and Helmer on the 4th line against Pittsburgh. He, like Chelios, can play a reduced role, and improve Downey and the young D. Have people forgotten how well the Osgood/Hasek combination worked? Why not do this with Downey and the D?
