WQF Game 2 GDT: Red Wings 4, Predators 2

I have to give Mike Babcock a pat on the back. He called the timeout after that second goal, and his message was perfectly clear: Settle down, relax and get back into the game we know we can play. It worked. He could not have timed that timeout any better or more effectively.

D-Mac! Scores the first goal of Game 2!

I have to admit it, I had tears in my eyes after he scored that goal. I was so happy for him. This is redemption.

    The Best Line in Hockey.

Like he really cares. I think he'd settle for that trophy at the end over anything else. Pasha goes out every night and does his job. Flies under a lot of people's radar, but at the end of the night, he usually has a goal or a helper, or he helped set up a goal without getting credit. If he doesn't get the Selke, I think that would be an injustice. This is a great line, and has been ever since they were put together. Injuries may have shuffled the players in and out, but Pasha's been the steady presence, and there are a lot of guys who say they feel blessed to play on the line with him. I know Dan Cleary does, Val does, and so has Johan.
  4. I like this one...nice work.

    Catfish!

My hubby tells me that in Florida they have walking catfish, but in TN they don't. All I know is that catfish when cooked the right way is pretty darned tasty. Best catfish I've had was at Mulatte's in Breaux Bridge, LA. It's a Cajun restaurant. It was awesome!

    The Yankees of the NHL?

Not unless there is a negative between them. Let's see, I think I heard we're playing 12 draft choices on our team this year... that doesn't sound like a team that goes out and buys their Cups. I mean, if you want a team that is trying to buy their way to a Cup, you need look no farther than the Rangers or the Flyers. This "Yankees of the NHL" is pure bullcrap. Now, there is another little thing you might have missed, but it's food for thought. Sports Illustrated recently did a poll among hockey players and asked which coach they would most like to play for. The majority answer - Mike Babcock. Players would give anything to be a Red Wing before their careers are over. That should tell you something.
  7. Wow - keep that up and you'll spoil me! Too bad my in-laws don't feel the same way!
  8. LMAO! that look is absolutely priceless! Even my hubby laughed at it! Bravo!

    Ducks lacking passion?

I have to admit, Terry and I watched part of that game last night, and we laughed our asses off. It was hilarious. I want to see Anaheim get their collective egos handed to them on a platter. Guys, crow goes down better with barbecue sauce!
  10. No, it's actually nice to see Mike get a cultural boost..."Alas, poor yokels, I knew them well." Nice work.
  11. Bravo! Perfect sentiment, indeed.
  12. The hell with that - Pasha looks damned good in that tux!
  13. Sweet!!!! At least I'll have a reason to watch it this year! I'm glad he will know just how some of us feel about him.
  14. I take it I am among those few...you know well that I've always been in his corner, and always will be. It goes without saying that my feelings will never change. And just so you know, there are a lot of voices around hockey that are starting to speak up and say Pasha deserves the Selke. Maybe for once he'll get some respect from the League. Dmitriy, would you do me a big favor - Tell Pasha he absolutely has to go to Toronto this year and get the awards. No chickening out this time! Does Pasha ever read this board? If he did I bet he'd get a chuckle out of this thread.
  15. Christ, that's enough to scare away any vermin! I like the Triceratrotz!

Top 10 best Russians in the game today?

Cerebral is a very good description. It fits. He sees the game so well, and like he said, he tries to keep a play or two ahead of everyone else...tries to see ahead of everyone else. It makes his game that much more intelligent. He sees angles and openings most of us can't see, and makes pinpoint passes to the player he sees open. I sometimes wonder how guys who play on a line with him at the All-Star game think when they get an unexpected pass from him - a pass they weren't looking for because they didn't see the opening he saw. But that is something you really can't get in a day or so of practice. The more you practice with him the more in tune you become, which is why guys like Henrik, Homer, Valtteri and Johan "get it". I am constantly amazed at the way he plays the game - you would almost think he has eyes in the back of his head sometimes. But it's that thinking a play or two ahead that makes that so possible. You're right, he'll never get the credit of Ovechkin or Malkin or Crosby...and it is because of that quiet way he has about him. He goes out night after night and flies under the radar. But that's okay. When it all comes down to the end, we know what a treasure we have. And he is rewarded for it.
  17. A question to all the people on this board who said not long ago that Pasha doesn't deserve to win the Selke - do you still feel that way? Or are you coming around to our way of thinking? There is a nice little groundswell movement for this to happen, and the voices are getting louder...are you listening????

Patrice Bergeron cleared for the playoffs

I heard he might come back as early as game 2. But it's the psychological lift that his return will give the Bruins. I told my friend Ellen about it (she is a die hard Bruins fanatic), and you would have thought she won the lottery. They'll be dancing in the streets in Boston.

    Your quirky playoff rituals?

I always wear a Red Wings shirt on game day. I have a chain that I wear with a Red Wings dog tag on it. That's really the only two I have. I also put a sheet on my fridge with all the matchups on it and keep track of who's in and who's out.
  20. Ever since he came to Detroit, I knew he would become something special...you could see it even then. How wonderful that we have been able to watch him grow and change, to become more than what he could have been. On the ice, he's such a blast to watch. He leaves me sitting on the edge of the chair every night. I never know what trick he's gonna pull out of his bag Off the ice, he has gone from a wallflower who didn't speak a word of English to a charming, generous, gracious, kind, sweet and marvelous gentleman. Of all the Wings I've had the pleasure of meeting, no one has come close to Pasha...he's incredible. A wicked sense of humor, a poetic way with words, generosity beyond belief...he's just amazing. Congrats, Pasha. I hope you know we are proud of you.
  21. Stan, I have to say I absolutely love your signature...that is way cool.
  22. Now that is the stuff of nightmares.

Top 10 best Russians in the game today?

You and I are gonna be in the minority on that opinion, I'm sure. Prepare to have your head handed to you for saying it. I'm sure it's gonna happen. It usually does if I say it. Of course, maybe they'll cut you some slack, but I doubt it.
  24. Now that kicks some serious ass. I love it.

    Your Top 5 Fighters

Milan Lucic. If we could get this guy out of Boston, I'd be happy as hell.
