we are assuming the players vote to kick the inflator in. i've read that there has been a delay in the vote (should be out yesterday) but there is a feeling there is an equal number of players who don't want the inflator for the cap

Top 10 UFA RWs looking at this list, will anyone take any of these clowns over Bert?

this is just pure evil. i would have absolutely lost it if my girlfriend ever did this to me

thats a big IF, if price fulfills his potential. potential is the most dangerous word in sports. how many prospect ever really fulfill their potential. They basically traded away a guy they called the 2nd coming of Christ; the pressure on Price will be insane.

well, given the year Toews had, i think its a no brainer.
-
i also think a lot of players had career years in terms of goals and points right after the lock out. teams were not sure how to defend with the new rules. Players like Cheechoo, Briere, Gomez, Gionta really benefitted and inked big deals as a result.

there is no chance the wings will be able to sign a top 6 forward. we already have hudler coming back.

thats what i thought. they cant make Huet's contract disappear.

anyone other than me thinks there's a slight chance that Kane either a) gets into some kind of (legal) trouble partying this offseason, or b) gets big headed and hits the banquet circuit and reports to camp out of shape or at the very least, still thinking he is top of the mountain and isn't focused for the season? i actually think b) is a possibility. It happened in Philly after they won the World Series 2 years ago. Cole Hamels won MVP honors but stunk it up the following season. he later admitted he was too busy celebrating and thinking he was the best and just wasn't in shape and not focused to play the next season. i wouldnt worry about Toews.

isn't unconditional waiver just a pre-cursor to a buyout, if the player is unclaimed?

there are separate rules regarding cap hits for the season, and cap hits for the offseason In the offseason, Huet's contract will still count against the cap, even if they plan to send him to the minors. I've been reading on the HF boards that in the off season, if a player is on a one-way contract, his cap hit will still count against the salary cap, even if he is stuck in the minors. during the offseason, teams can go over the cap, but by no more than 10% of the salary cap (section 50.5,( c )(2)(B). now look at this is under section 50.5, (d)(i)(A) of the CBA, here is the link CBA from NHL.com there is a lot more to it, but this explains that Huet's contract (since it is one way) will still count against the cap in the offseason even if he is buried in witness protection. it's only when the season starts will Huet's contract not count against the cap. but by then, most of the players would have signed with other clubs, and i don't think a team wants to sign players after training camp ends. so, as to why Ottawa is buying out Cheechoo's contract, my guess is its to free up cap space to sign players this offseason. If they want to bury him in the minors, his cap will still count against the cap in the offseason, and they lose the $3.5 million in space to sign someone else in the offseason. Buying him out now gives them some cap space that they will not get until after the end of training camp, if they sent him to the minors This is the first i've heard of these separate rules for the offseason, but if its true (and i think it is since its written in the CBA), the hawks cap is even more screwed than i initially thought

i will think that owners who are willing to spend the money will have no hesitation doing what the hawks did. i'm laughing mainly at the fools in the media who are throwing the 'dynasty' word around so loosely.
-
the players do get rewarded and get a raise by playing well to win the cup; they just get the raise from another club. this isnt an idea that is easily to implement. so if they get a $2 million raise in the cap for the next year, and they don't win the next year, they will be over the cap and have to purge players?
-
look at the Penguins. They won and people in the media threw the dynasty word around. Crosby and Malkin's huge contracts kicked in and they had to let go of 'role' players like Gill and Scuderi. They are still a good team but not as good as the team that won the Cup, and i think if they were in the west they would have barely made the playoffs. Its going to be the same with the Hawks. They won't tank, but they won't be the most stacked team in the league. in fact, chicago has worse contracts than the pens Its funny how many (not on this board though lol) now think Quenneville is a good coach with this win. The truth is, he was given the keys to such a stacked and loaded team that it would have been harder not to win the Cup this year. Such stacked teams don't come along often. In the salary cap world, this only happens when you have superstars that are still on their entry level contracts.

what are the teams that have a) ample cap space and b) will be willing to spend money to bring guys in?
-
Will they be willing to send Huet down to the minors and pay him his $5 million? they will be raking in a lot of cash with the extra merchandise with the cup win and they'll be selling out their arena next season. i think so
-
How the hell do you solve this? They will only have about $400,000 space. This assumes the cap is $58 million. Salary Cap Chart
