  1. I don't believe Lidstrom was speared in the nuts.

DETROIT (AP) — The general manager of the Detroit Red Wings says captain Nicklas Lidstrom missed the last two games of the conference finals because of surgery.

Ken Holland told The Associated Press on Sunday the operation was May 24, although he would not say what kind of surgery. Lidstrom told the Detroit Free Press he had testicular surgery after he was speared by Chicago's Patrick Sharp in Game 3 on May 22.

Lidstrom's operation came on the same day the Red Wings beat the Blackhawks 6-1 in Game 4. Detroit won the Western Conference finals in Game 5.

Lidstrom returned to the ice for the Stanley Cup finals, which the Pittsburgh Penguins won in seven games.

I only know what I read.

  2. Maybe it was luck. Maybe it was toughness. Maybe a grittier man would have played at a higher level through the pain that Dats, Lids et al suffered. I can't say for certain either way, but niether can you.

I personally don't think our guys would have been as banged up as they were if we had a deterrent factor like Lappy to sort things out. I know I wouldn't spear Lids in the nuts if I knew Laperriere was going to bash my skull in for doing it.

  3. I think Lappy declined the Av's offer because the Av's management is just horrible, I mean absolutely horrible. I doubt it was as much about the money instead of actually playing for a coherent management team.

I think Detroit has the best chance of getting any player at a discount. Players love the organization.

  4. You're the winning team's captain...you go out of your way to do right. I don't care about the circumstances...as my old man used to tell me, you're only responsible for your behaviour. Be the bigger (and better) man. Your celebrations can wait 30-60 seconds. Doing the right thing at the right time...can't.

He was flat-out wrong, and multiple wrongs don't make it right. He can't control what they do...he can control what he does and he should have done right even if it was behind closed doors. You extend your hand and thank your opponent. If he walks away or refuses it, then as they say, that's all you need to know about your opponent.

Agreed. It's not like anyone was watching Crosby's every move or that he had anything to prove about his perceived maturity level..

Honestly, Crosby had a chance to prove a lot of his critics wrong by showing a level of character that he apparently didn't possess.

I guess that's why Crosby handed the cup off to the actual captain of the team.

  5. Watch the NBC video and you see Crosby skating towards the line but stops to be a CAPTAIN and congratulate and celebrate with the taxi squad.

    Shame on him

It's about respect. Respect for the game, the history, and the cup. Your "captain" proved his critics right with his response to Draper anyways.

Enjoy the summer...and we'll expect the cup returned to us in the same condiction in which you got it.

  6. Win it for Bettman to shove it in his face.

Win it for the haters who said Osgood will always be a career backup.

Win it for all fans of the Western Conference who are sick of the NHL and its love for shoving Eastern teams down their throats.

And kind of personal...win it for my mom's friend whose 20-year-old son died in a car accident two days ago.

    Werd.

  7. I'll first feel joy. Joy in this season and the bright future of the greatest organization in all of sports.

I'll probably get a little weepy when I see some of the older guys skate with it and certainly when they show Stevie Y. in the arena.

I know he hasn't done much this season on the ice but I would like to see McCarty out there and on the cup. He seems to have gone through a personal hell and come back as a mentor for the future.

  8. i say charge $10... $5 goes to the charity and the other $5 goes to the pay off the fine charity.

simple as pie, they can raise a good $10,000 to $50,000 easily

or just allow the joe to have a neilson box and count all 10,000 of us watching.... der

They don't care, we're the old hockey fans.
