  1. I was there last night and it took the entire intermission just to go to the bathroom and get a Coke. It was probably one of the most packed early season games I've ever been to that wasn't the home opener. A lot of people seemed to leave with about 6-7 minutes left but the arena was pretty full and it was hell trying to get anywhere on the concourse.

  2. Anyone criticizing this game doesn't know what they're talking about. Yeah there were dumb penalties but we killed off two 5-on-3s and they barely had any chances on either of them. Their only goal was a fluke on a misplay behind the net. Our goals were solid shots made possible from hard work and the forecheck. The only reason we didn't have 2 or so more goals is because Ryan Miller is such a quality goaltender. Buffalo had no business staying in that game.

  3. Samuelsson won't be waived and he won't be sent down. End story. He makes too much money to be sent down to stay on our books for no reason even though he's on our books for no reason even when he is playing for us.

  4. IMO they should get a company like ABC, NBC, CBC, ESPN, etc. to make these preview shows - a broadcaster who knows something about sports.

The problem with that is they would have to edit a lot of the footage. With HBO, they don't have to censor anything.

  5. Weiss looked pretty good but Franzen didn't want the puck and Cleary wasn't doing anything when he got it. There was a perfect play where Weiss fed the puck to Franzen and he immediately pushed it back to Weiss as Weiss was almost passing the goal. It made absolutely no sense to give it back to Weiss and it was immediately turned over. Nyquist and Andersson were pretty good, they seemed to still be in sync from the playoffs last season and got themselves a couple 2-on-1s but couldn't put it home.

  6. I guess last years predictions were we were a border line playoff team?

I suppose adding "Al" and Weiss help? Maybe. Injuries aside of course for everyone.

More I think about it I still think we are a border line playoff team.

Helm is also an addition we didn't have last year. Assuming he doesn't have yet another setback and can play this season, he's a huge part of this team.

  7. I don't see either getting their numbers formally retired but maybe both as an unspoken rule. I think Zetterberg would have more of a chance considering he has a Conne Smyth and is the captain and will be captain until he retires.

  8. I also don't agree with you. I feel that Chicago, much like the 2002 Wings vs. Vancouver, didn't take their opposition as seriously as they should have. The Sens are on the rise, and Detroit is going to have their hands full in the Division they are slated to goto. That aside, I just hope Alfie can play those serious minutes he was required to with the Sens. If he pans out like Modano, we are really up $h@! creek, and we will analyze the crap out of how we handled resigning Brunner. This upcomming season aside, if the cap does in fact go back up and we shed Alfie, Bert and Sammy, the following free-agency and the maturity of our youth will set the Wings up for success for 2014-2015. I also feel that Holland felt it was necessary to bring in some Eastern Conference regulars to help with the transition (ie. Alfie and Weiss).

Sorry but the division we're coming from is 10x harder to play in than the division we're going to and if Alfredsson turns out like Modano, then be glad it's a one year contract and his bonuses are paid out only if he plays 10 games. Other than that, we can find much better options for scoring than Brunner next offseason when Alfredsson comes off the books. The FA class is loaded.

The Philadelphia Flyers' first pick at the NHL Draft was a 6-6 defenseman who likes to fight. If that sounds familiar, it should.

Chris Pronger, currently on long-term injured reserve with post-concussion syndrome and vision problems stemming from a stick to the eye in 2011, helped scout Samuel Morin.

Not positive on this, but I don't think a player with his experience can just be optioned to the minors. He'd have to go willingly, which I don't think he'd do. Even if he went, we're still on the hook for the cap hit.

Capgeek doesn't have him listed as LTIR and he's still counting against their cap.

  10. You really think someone is going to trade a good defenseman for Tootoo, Samuelsson or Bertuzzi? Share with me what you've been smoking, please!

Holland has backed himself into a corner and our choices are trading a good young player like Nyquist or Tatar or trying to give away Tootoo, Eaves or Emmerton. Everyone knows Holland has too many players and is over the cap. Who's going to offer anything?

You can't just put a player on LTIR. They have rules. Samuelsson has told anyone who will listen that he does not need surgery. Betruzzi played last post season. Chris Pronger is legitimately injured with severe concussion symptoms. The only reason they aren't taking him off LTIR is because of the big contract. But they can keep him there because he IS hurt.

Pronger is not on LTIR yet.

  11. I thought the same, but capgeek shows the caphit at $5.5M....now whether or not that is his actual cap hit, that is why the folks are yelling about it. They look at capgeek, see the caphit at $5.5M and then react. If $5.5M is not his caphit, then why doesn't capgeek show his hit correctly?

There's a star next to it that says $2mil in bonuses. It's also not counted in our total salary as we still have $2.3mil in cap space when we'd actually be over the cap if it counted.
