Sorry this happened. I saw the "BLACK CHICKEN" too. I mean, seriously? They couldn't come up with something more badass like "black scorpion" or "black widow" or "black death." Noooo, it was BLACK CHICKEN! Something you get out of a bad cook's oven!

Yeah, I guess you could say it lessens the sting a little. Crosby's been kind of quiet and had a number of mistakes in the tournament, but I just knew something was going to happen and he wouldn't stay quiet, and I was right. I was totally heartbroken but thoroughly amused at the same time because of all the hell I knew that would break loose everywhere (good and bad) because it was Crosby. Still wanted it more for USA and Orpik, but what can you do. At the beginning of the tournament I would have been happy to see the USA at least get a medal. They sure got my hopes up for a while there.

Yeah, as far as I know he lives in his own house on the property. Either way, who gives a s***. As long as he plays well for my team what he does in his own life is his business. Though tonight he WASN'T playing for my team. As a Pens fan but as an American rooting hard for USA, what a mind f*** that moment was.

What I see happening is Caps making it to the finals within the next couple of years but losing, but going back to win one at some point when they're a little older. I suspect they aren't lacking on paper (except maybe on some defense) as much as it is they could use a little more deep playoff experience first. But then again for a while I thought Boston was going to win a Cup and neither Pens nor Wings would make it back, so what the hell do I know. Just a question -- what is the Wings' win streak record, and how did they do that year?

You will always find grit teams wherever Burke goes. Flyers have a respectable amount of grit and do wear the Broadstreet Bully label quite proudly but I personally think the mystique of that as part of the team's history seems to play up more than what is actually fact at times though.

Yeah, he's basically being paid to do nothing for the time being and will be for a couple more years so that's probably why he hasn't been in a hurry to get back to work.

He's still in Pittsburgh for now, he's just been focusing on spending time with his kids. I think it was mentioned somewhere that they're older kids and he's been reluctant for them to be moved from their schools for the time being. Obviously the Pens had to let him go but he would probably be a good fit for an AHL or young NHL team in need of learning disciplined work ethic and defense, though his style doesn't always get on well with veterans and has a limited shelf life.

Good question, I think we all would like to know. Fox Sports Pittsburgh wanted a "new direction" in 2006. It wasn't broken and shouldn't have been "fixed."

Heh, you caught me! I took out the snarky remark because I didn't want to come across as trollish -- I tend to agree with cmonster as far as conspiracy theories go, people are just too incompetent and FSN is proof. Steigerwald is so bad, a lot of people try to mute their television and use the radio broadcast on the play by play instead.

It's hard to compare the two because every year and team has its own story. But both played and won in the Winter Classic with Conklin, both lost in the finals, lost Hossa and Conklin, and went to Sweden in the fall so maybe the superstitious would have some fun with that... Your players probably aren't tuning out and growing to loathe playing for your coach the way ours did. After a while Therrien just became like Charlie Brown's teacher and all the players heard was "wah wah wah soff wah wah defens wah wah"

A bit of a sensationalist title, but he does have a few points. He is not playing as well as he could be and taking too many penalties, but I don't think to the extent that he is hurting the Penguins to a significant degree. I think if we were worse in the standings it might have better timing but as is it kind of seems like they're pulling yet another Crosby article out of their butt to get people talking and boost readership. I realize Malkin did have his shoulder problem, but even when he has been playing, both guys have seemed pretty quiet this fall compared to how I've seen them both play. Our power play overall DOES hurt us, though. I don't put that on Crosby alone as much as it is how mind bogglingly awful it becomes when Gonchar goes out. And even with him back in, we still have a pretty mediocre power play despite the offensive talent. I realize our players should shoulder some responsibility for that, but I'm not terribly crazy about Mike Yeo running it and kind of wish he would have been canned when Therrien was.

I seriously doubt you will miss the playoffs. It would take something pretty freakish and significant for that to happen, and I find it hard to believe there are 8 teams that are better than you and can stay far enough ahead all season that it would put you out of the race.

I understand...nobody's immune to it, especially when it's our own team. We all know within a given week a team goes from contender to not making the playoffs and back again.
