What are the odds of moving Helm out to a wing, keeping Modano and Fil at center on back two lines? It seems plausible.

If signing Modano means letting Maltby go ... I approve.

Ivan Vishnesky and a second for Ladd Go Marlins!!! Er ... Blackhawks.

    Bugger.

5 years, $5 mil per for Martin confirmed, via Bob McKenzie. Wow, I was slow with that ... seems a reasonable deal since Pittsburgh apparently has no salary cap.

I don't know who is going to play wing for the Pens, but their defense is stacked. Really, really strong now with Martin.

    F the Penguins.

Maybe that's why Lilja's heading out. At this rate, he's going to get like 4 years and $16 million.

I like Meszaros ... could be a nice addition for Philly. I'm kind of confused how they're fitting him in under the cap -- I think he's due about $4 million, isn't he?

    2010 NHL Draft Thread

Michigan commit Jon Merrill at No. 38 to New Jersey. Pretty solid pickup for the Devils at that spot, I thought he might go first round.

1st Round Pick (21), Riley Sheahan

I like this pick quite a bit and I think mostly because he fits right into Detroit's system -- meaning that he's a two-way guy who can score some goals and get to the front of the net. They're not breaking the mold here and they're not landing another Datsyuk, but they found a guy that could contribute to this team in the future. It's hard to doubt the draft strategy of this front office, isn't it? Boychuk Re-Signs in Boston

The dream is dead. Apparently $3.75 over two years. Link

    Sharks re-sign Marleau & Pavelski

This elicited almost no emotion from me one way or the other. Pavelski's contract seems perfectly reasonable for what he did last year.

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

I mean ... yea, they got a nice haul back, but you can't quantify Byfuglien's impact on that team based on stats and money. Would they have even made the Finals without his playoff production? He's a huge, huge piece to that puzzle.

    Bufyglien traded to Thrashers

Tough for the Blackhawks to give up those three ... still a pretty decent haul in return. The balance of power in the Central's already shifting back north.

    Eklund has lost his mind!

Eklund just E5'd a Byfuglien-Sopel-Eager to Atlanta trade.

    Cap to $59.64 million?

So we can sign Kovalchuk now, right?

"Horton and another Panther for 1 Bruin" - Darren Dreger I'm intrigued.

    Nathan Horton

Horton the Bruins looks like a "done deal" according to TSN's Bob McKenzie. Nice add by Boston if true.

    Wings' Schedule

Not exactly an easy start to the year, is it? Kind of bummed there's no game in D.C. this year.

    Brad Winchester

Derek Boogard's going to be available now that Minnesota traded for Brad Staubitz. Of course, he only fills the "drop the gloves" part of that role. He can't skate. Downey-style.
