Z. Michalek is the guy I really want to see in a Wings uniform. He will be a UFA at the end of the year and maybe a Stuart type deal can get the job done

I always liked Lang and thought he was a solid #2 center but just got a little too lazy at the end of his stay here. He was once considered a very good defensive player years ago. There are a few players I would love the Wings to have on the Phoenix team like Doan and Mihalek. Mihalek is a FA at the end of the year and if the wings have cap space for him I say go for it. Right handed defenseman who led the league in block shots last year and also has a lot of offensive potential. Shoot even if Nick retired after this season our defense would be solid..... Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Rafalski Kindl-Mihalek(this is really selling him short but the 2 czechs would compliment eachother well. My dream off season would involve us picking up Frolov and Mihalek while letting the likes of Maltby, Holmstrom, Bertuzzi, Meech and lebda go while re-signing eaves,helm,williams and lidstrom. I'd even consider bring Bert back for one year if he has a nice season and comes on the cheap. Youngsters I expect to see on the team next year are Abby, ritola and maybe even Larsson if Howard flops

Since Cheli seems like he never wants to retire from playing I came up with an idea to keep him in the wings system and for him to keep getting a paycheck doing what he loves. Why not sign him to a 2-way contract to play for Grand Rapids? He could do some serious mentoring to Kindl and Kolosov. Kindl especially needs work on his defensive game and who better to teach that then one of the best d-man to ever play? I mean seriously what's the difference between having Janik or Chelios? Neither one will ever suit up for the Wings this year but at least I would rather those young kids learning from a legend then Delmore or Janik. I really have no idea how much minor league players make but I'm sure it's a decent amount.

I want to know with what cap space can we possible sign anyone? The only way to fit someone on this team is to let somebody go. May is not a player I would want over any other player on this team. If we had a little more wiggle room under the cap then I wouldn't mind to have him as the 14th forward. I just don't understand everyones love for these "enforcers" who can't play hockey worth a damn and aren't even that great at fighting. Seriously, I would put up more points on the Wings over Downey or May.

Yeah u might just be right. He was turning into a solid role player for us before he left. The Wings still need an upgrade on Meech. There are guys like Mclaren, De Vries, Bergeron, Malik, Gauthier and even Hedican that would bring more to the table along with a guy like Delmore who can be a power play specialist

Under a million? He would be lucky to get anything more than 500,00 from a team. For the 17 g's more it would cost us to bring him in and dump Meech, I would be more than happy to do that. The two most pointless players on this team are meech and maltby. I say why not upgrade both.

They are fine. Larsson is only traveling with the team to Sweden in case of emergency and will not count against the cap. With abby in and hel injured the wings are right against the cap

Yeah exactly what I was thinking. Last year Meech was much more valuable since we couldn't get an extra winger under the cap most of the year. I actually thought he looked better at wing than he does on D. It's a shame what happened to Lilja. IMO he was the perfect 6-7 guy for this team. I love stay at home defenseman who block shots and kill penalties. If I were the Wings I would keep a close eye on what becomes available in the next week or so and see if we can pick up a guy like that.

I know I'm probably in the minority here but I'd rather see Andy Delmore as our 7th dman over Meech. I haven't been all that impress by Meech for a little while now. He's small, constantely gets his shots block and seems to struggle in his own end against bigger players. Delmore is a little bigger, has a rocket shot, has more nhl experience, is RIGHT HANDED and can at the very least be a power play specialist on the second unit when he does play. Seriously, who would you rather see at the point on the power play....Williams or Delmore? I'm not saying Delmore should be a regular but I really think he should be our 7th guy

Free agents out there that might help this team are Kyle Mclaren and Manny Fernandez. Mclaren can be that 6-7th shot blocking, hard hitting, big defenseman I think this team could use since it looks like Lilja won't be playing this season. Manny has been a solid goaltender and as a backup would be ideal for a year.

I don't think this current team is good enough to make it to the finals this year let alone win the cup. Here is what I think we are missing. Top six forward Bottom pairing stay at home defenseman Physical 2-way 3rd line winger This year we will be leaning too heavily on Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Franzen to do most of our scoring. I'd love to see the Wings get Frolov even though it's unlikely with our cap situation. Cheap player I'd also like to Wings try and acquire is Shane Hnidy. He would be a nice 6-7 defenseman and a definite upgrade over Meech. Abdelkader can be that banging 3rd line winger. My ideal team would look something like this...... Hey guys just wanted to know if anyone had an idea on what the roster for Grand Rapids wil be. So far this is what I came up with GOALIES MCCOLLUM LARSSEN DEFENSE KINDL KOLOSOV DELMORE JANIK PYETT LEFT WING RYNO RITOLA OULAHEN VIGILANTE LEMIEUX CENTER ABDELKADER EMMERTON MCGRATH NEWBURY RIGHT WING WILLIAMS MURSAK PARE TARDIF

With Frolov an impending FA after this season the Kings seem willing to trade him this year. I think the Red Wings should seriously consider putting a package together to acquire him and depending on how the season goes, offer an extension. With alot of contracts coming off the books after the season we will have some cap space to sign our own kew players and give Frolov a fair contract. Here is what I've come up with to make this work....... Waive Maltby and Howard then trade Holmstrom Emmerton Meech Mursak 3rd round pick for Frolov LA recieves two solid prospects with 2nd line potential, a puck moving defenseman that they need and Holmstrom can be a nice mentor to some of their younger players along with the pick. Backup goalie I would either offer Cloutier a 500,000 contract or offer 600,000 to Gerber, Fernandez or Nittyamki. Depending on which way we go we will save some money and we upgrade this position albeit just a little.
