Maybe. Carcillo has definitely toned it down since the 07-08 year when he piled up 324 penalty minutes with Phoenix. At the time, he took a ton of unscrupulous penalties, but the Coyotes were far from playoff contention at the time (if I remember correctly), and Gretzky loved him, so he got playing time. He probably won't hit 300 penalty minutes again, but he is still a fireball out there. I'd take a chance on him over the summer if it was for under a mil.

Yeah. Philadelphia's roster is absolutely jammed. I definitely think he's on his way out. Maybe Burke will bring him to Toronto. They got nothing else to lose. He'll be a free agent in the summer.

Yeah I can't say i've seen anyone do something like that before. I was surprised he didn't come back on the ice to get back into the scrum, to be honest.

Yeah they seem to like one pure "goon" (Shelley this year. In years past it was Cote) and guys that can play gritty and skate a regular shift. Not to continue to bring up random trade proposals, but I wouldn't mind us picking Carcillo up and taking a chance on him, maybe he can find some chemistry in the bottom 6. Not a lot of room right now, though.

Cooke is obviously the biggest agitator this league has seen in a while. He definitely walks that line, but I mean Marc Savard's career is basically over because of the hit (Whether it was legal or not is debatable). The thing is, Cooke has repeatedly proved that he's got no respect for the league's other players. It's one thing to hit hard and finish your checks every time and get in everyone's face, but it's another thing to take knees out and deliberately attempt to seriously injure someone. As far as Gillies goes, the hit was obviously an elbow, but I don't think Tangradi was innocent. He must have said something or went after someone, because Gillies was really letting him hear it. Not jutifying what Gillies did, but I don't think Tangradi was completely innocent.

Anyone else think Dan Carcillo may be dealt before the deadline? He's been a healthy scratch on and off for most of the year. I think the Flyers were hoping for a little more offense from him. He's got 3 goals and 4 points as well as 88 penalty minutes in 33 games this season.

This was Martin's first "offense". Cooke is the definition of repeat offender. While I feel Martin deserved some sort of discipline for the sucker punch, I wouldn't say he's just as bad as Cooke. The suspension on Gillies was harsh, in my opinion.

Fights at the end of games aren't as common anymore now that there's an automatic suspension for a player who instigates a fight in the last 5 minutes of the game. Some agree with it, some don't. Anyway, Backes isn't afraid to mix it up. Clayton Stoner has quietly become a decent 3rd pairing defenseman for Minnesota.

I wouldn't mind Phillips, but I think there are better options out there. Phillips turns 33 in March, and the last thing we really need is another aging player. Ideally, i'd like a younger stay at home defenseman that we could lock up for a few years after this year, like Ladislav Smid from Edmonton, among others. Our defense hasn't been consistent this year and I think Kenny is going to shake things up, although we have looked a bit better these last few games.

Tangradi must have said something from the bench or something like that because Gilles was really letting him hear it while he was down.

Good game. Good to see the Islanders sticking up for themselves. They made a statement last night. Nobody is going to physically push them around. Talbot got his for the borderline hit on Blake Comeau. Godard should get suspended 10 games for leaving the bench, and that should be the only suspension, but I think Gilles will be suspended for the hit on Tangradi. People who are whining about this can go watch soccer. Good old time hockey!

I was just thinking about this earlier. I don't think much is going to happen at the deadline for us, but over the offseason I think there will be some changes. I think Draper and Modano are both done after this year. Maybe sign Drapes to a 1 year but only if it's a two-way deal so he can mentor the prospects in Grand Rapids. I'd like to see us let Salei walk if he decides to play again next year. I think we need to get younger. We've got one of the oldest teams in the league, if not the oldest. Both Lidstrom and Modano are 40 (Although Nick's play hasn't really dropped off), Draper is 39, Holmstrom is 38, Rafalski is 37, and Bertuzzi and Salei are both 36, so of course there are going to be injury problems. These guys that have been a part of this organization for so long are only going to be around so much longer.
