The hard working Drew Miller sits out at the expense of Hudler again.. His time is dwindling.. He needs to start producing. Dallas has a fairly scrappy team, we need to keep our heads up out there! LGW!

    Toughest line in NHL

Gillies knocked around Bissonnette pretty good tonight. Quickly becoming one of the most feared enforcers in the NHL.

    Toughest line in NHL

You can never have too many of those types of guys in the lineup. Jacques can put up some points. Vandermeer, Strudwick, and Peckham are all solid stay at home defensemen. Edmonton's got a bright future with Omark and Paajarvi to go along with Hall and Eberle.

    Toughest line in NHL

I'd say one of the toughest teams in the league is Edmonton, with Steve MacIntyre, Colin Fraser, Zack Stortini, Jim Vandermeer, Theo Peckham, Jason Strudwick, J-F Jacques. Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall won't be getting pushed around when they're surrounded by guys like that.

Early numbers: Cap could rise by $2 million

Laich would be an excellent signing. I wouldn't mind O'Donnell, but he's aged, maybe a younger guy, like Shane O'Brien?

Also, if we decide to part ways with Salei, another local guy that would fit the bill of a defensive minded 3rd pairing defenseman is Matt Greene in Los Angeles.

True. Another guy that comes to mind is Tim Gleason in Carolina. Nick is truly irreplacable..

12/15 GDT: Blues 2 at Red Wings 5

Kaberle would be an interesting pick up. Be interesting to see if he could play in a city where winning isn't only expected, its almost required to keep a job in Detroit..Polar opposite atmosphere of Toronto, in that sense, anyway.

Draper, Osgood, Modano, and Lidstrom all retire I think. Re-sign Eaves and possibly Miller. Get Hudler out of town somehow for a gritty 3rd liner. Re-sign Howard and Ericsson, assuming he finishes the year strong and plays decent in the playoffs. Salei is a toss up for me right now. Could retire possibly, he's getting up there in age. Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Franzen-Filppula-Bertuzzi Cleary-Abdelkader-UFA/Miller Eaves-Helm-UFA -UFA UFA-Rafalski Stuart-Kronwall Ericsson-UFA Howard Now, for the one or two open spots in the bottom 6, I want someone like David Clarkson, Dan Carcillo, Jason Chimera, Derek Dorsett, Brandon Prust, Brian Sutherby, Matt Hendricks, Ryan Jones, Zenon Konopka, Jared Boll, Mike Brown, Kyle Chipchura, Chris Thorburn, Nate Thompson, and the list goes on..a gritty guy who can put up a few points as well. For a replacement if Nick does indeed retire, my top reasonable choices to take his spot are Ryan Suter, Keith Yandle, or Brent Seabrook. As far as the 3rd pairing defenseman, a stay at home guy like John Erskine, Jim Vandermeer, Mark Stuart, Matt Walker, Matt Carkner, Shane O'Brien, Sheldon Brookbank, and the list goes on.

I get the weird feeling this is Lidstrom's last year..hopefully i'm wrong, but anyhow, although it will be a significant blow to the team, there will be plenty of guys we will look at to take his spot. I wouldn't mind seeing Ryan Suter or Keith Yandle in his place. Obviously i'd love to see Drew Doughty or Shea Weber in a Wings sweater, but that seems like a long shot right now.

    Jody Shelley Suspended 2 Games

I think it is a fair suspension. The league did a good job here. Message sent. The league doesn't want body contact like that on an icing call. Fair enough.

    scottie upshall for hudler

Haha its a great point I watched Dorsett when he played in Columbus' old AHL Affiliate in Syracuse and knew he was gonna be a regular in the NHL. I've always liked Jared Boll as well. Him and Dorsett play similar styles: tough and nasty, but they can play some hockey as well. With New Jersey dwelling near the bottom of the league, I think Clarkson will be on his way out. His contract is up at the end of the year, and who knows what their plans are with him. He'd add much needed grit to the lineup. I wouldn't mind any of those guys either. I've always liked Dorsett too. Guess it depends on who is buying and selling at the deadline. Chris Thorburn, Brian Sutherby, and Jason Chimera are on my wish liat, as well.

    scottie upshall for hudler

I've always liked Upshall. He's produced 12 points playing mostly on the 3rd/4th line in Phoenix. Another guy I like is Matt Martin from the Islanders. Solid hitter, and can play some hockey as well. With the Islanders most likely being sellers at the deadline, i'd love to see Hudler and maybe a pick for Martin. Another team that will be selling at the deadline will be Edmonton, and I really think Ryan Jones would be a solid pickup for us, as well. Another good two-way player that should fit right in with the bottom 6. Plenty of options out there.

In Modano's absence, Wings' trade picture murky

To Detroit: John Erskine To Washington: Jakub Kindl and Jiri Hudler

He has sunk to a -8...on a team that is in first place in their division..

    RWC's new prospect rankings

Hell, Dan Carcillo and Jarkko Ruutu have some offensive upside, as well. Now, we've gotta be careful about jumping the gun as far as how offensively gifted Callahan will be at the NHL level, but he seems like hes on the right track. He's got a while before his time in Detroit.

David Clarkson at the trade deadline=2011 Stanley Cup Championship

Bert: (One of) the most hated athletes.

As far as the NHL goes, the guys that seem the most hated are guys like: Sean Avery Matt Cooke Jarkko Ruutu Sidney Crosby PK Subban is a guy that seems to be getting some hatred, like with the Mike Richards episode. Bertuzzi doesn't seem to be anywhere as hated as he used to be right after the incident.

    If Modano's career is over...

Yeah his trade value decreases with every game, so im not sure who would be interested..

    If Modano's career is over...

I say we go after Dustin Penner. He's got 15 points in 23 games with the bottom-dwelling Oilers, who are shopping him around. Put him on the 3rd line with Cleary and Abdelkader/Eaves and that's a good, hard working 3rd line. He's got the playoff experience and would be a nice pickup at the deadline, or even sooner. He's only 28 years old, so if the trade proves beneficial for Detroit and he plays well, maybe we can try to hang on to him for a while.
