Sucks to see the last parts of that rivalry retiring. Aaron Ward, Kirk Maltby..There's only a few guys remaining from the rivalry (Which, in my mind, started in 1996 and ended in 2002, but that's just me). Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Draper, Osgood, and Datsyuk (entered at the tail end of the rivalry) for Detroit, and Adam Foote and Milan Hejduk for Colorado. The big pieces to the rivalry (Yzerman, Forsberg, Shanahan, McCarty, Lemieux, Deadmarsh, Sakic, Lacroix, Vernon, Roy, Yelle, De Vries, Ward, etc.) Are gone. The only guys I really still hate are Lemieux, Roy, and Forsberg.

Hits me every time a veteran retires. Guys that I always remember watching as I was growing up: Kirk Maltby, Aaron Ward, Darcy Tucker..the list keeps building.

So how much salary exactly must NJ drop? Salvador's contract is ridiculous.

Kirk Maltby was one of those heart and soul guys you need on a team. Willing to block shots, take hits, and on top of that, he killed penalties like no other (in his prime). One of the best defensive forwards this team has seen, in my mind. Malts, you'll always be a son of Detroit. Congratulations on a great career.

Leblond got a one game suspension and I believe he was put on waivers today, leading me to believe that Adam Mair will take his spot on the 4th line.

Hopefully MacIntyre gets a good amount of games under his belt this year. With him, Colin Fraser, Zack Stortini, Jim Vandermeer, Theo Peckham, and Jason Strudwick on that roster, nobody is gonna be pushing them around. They've got a pretty mean team this year. Also: If they are completely useless, why does basically every team (besides us) carry at least 1 enforcer? Many teams, like Edmonton, have multiple scrappy guys.
