If we sign Mitchell, or any other defenseman for that matter, Derek Meech has to be the odd man out on defense.Assuming Modano signs here, Miller and Ritola will likely be traded. Unfortunately, there just simply isn't enough spots for everyone. Its always a good problem to have, rather than lacking talent and looking anywhere and everywhere just to fill a few roster spaces.

TSN is reporting Glen Metropolit has signed a 2 year deal with a team in Switzerland. Another one down...

John Erskine has to be on his way out of Washington, especially if Mitchell signs there. As much as I'd like to see Mitchell here, I doubt it. I think he signs in Washington and the Caps trade John Erskine. He'd be a nice 6th defenseman. Too bad his contract is ridiculous.

"Big announcement" is, Modano has decided to retire because his wife wants him to play in California or retire. He claims he wanted to play in Detroit, but he's too whipped. In other news, Kenny signs Arron Asham and Shane Hnidy.

He seemed like a solid prospect..Maybe the Sabres found someone more promising in free agency? Who's gonna take his place?

He'll be in an NHL jersey next year Someone will pick him up at league minimum.

Anaheim is gonna be, like every other year, tough as hell to play against. Their defense is going to be the thing that takes them down, I think. They have the offensive weapons, but no defensive gems whatsoever. Are Sutton and Brookbank good, hard hitting, shut down defensemen? You bet. Are they gonna carry the team defensively? No. The Anaheim Ducks will be tough as hell to play against, with Parros, Chipchura, Voros, Bodie, Brookbank, and Sutton. But fighting doesn't necessarily equal success. There must be a good blend of talent and nastiness. The defense will be the reason they miss the playoffs again, in my opinion.

Sign Modano. Trade Meech,Miller,and Ritola. Sign Asham. Bring Back The Bruise Bros=happy camper

Holmstrom is one of those guys that other teams fans hate, but they don't hate him because he runs his mouth or he throws cheap shots. They hate Holmstrom because you can hack and whack all you want, but he's still gonna stand in front of the net. They hate Holmstrom because he's a warrior and nothing phases him.

Well someone posted an article that said Sutton is pondering two western conference teams.

Perry is not the type of player I'd want on this team. I'd never be happy with punkasses like Cooke, Kaleta, Clutterbuck, or Perry. The last thing I want on this team is a guy who does nothing but run his mouth and hide behind his windshield when challenged.

Minnesota is still looking for a replacement for Shane Hnidy. I could see Witt heading there. I guess I wouldn't mind seeing Witt in a Wings jersey. Not my top choice, though.

I can't imagine Don Cherry is too fond of Corey Perry. When Steve Downie made a name for himself by the cheapshot on Dean McAMmond, Cherry didn't have nice words to say about him, regardless of whether he's Canadian or not.

I doubt he's looking for that much now that its early August. He was likely asking for a lot of money in the beginning of July, but I bet his asking price has significantly dropped.

I bet Canadiens fans would welcome him back. The crowd at the Bell Centre constantly chanted his name, especially after he fought.

Like haroldsnepts said, the only reason Perry runs his mouth so much is because he's got plenty of guys to back up his talk. George Parros, Kyle Chipchura, Troy Bodie, and Sheldon Brookbank fought his battles constantly last year. The prick rarely fights. Wouldn't mind seeing him get his windshield cracked and get his face pounded in.

Does he have talent? Yes. Is he a ******? Yes. Does he run his mouth and hide behind his windshield? You bet. He talks, and never backs it up. Bottom line.

A chunk of guys are gonna bolt for the KHL. Stewart and Mueller will re-sign with Colorado. Niskanen and Grossman will re-sign with Dallas. I think Lang, Artyukhin, Svatos, Kozlov, Modin, Schubert, Koistinen, Fedotenko, and Afinogenov will all bolt for the KHL. There is a lot of talent still available than usual at this time of year.
