Good for Florida. I really like what he brings to the table.

    The person below me game...

I've been fortunate enough to say that I've never had chicken pox. The person below me feels obligated to return the favor when someone gets them a gift.

    <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="GMRwings1983" data-cid="2340959" data-time="1358450112">

I always wanted to have an Erskine type player here. A guy who regularly dressed on defense for the Capitals, and was an enforcer to boot. Sheldon Brookbank is another such player.

These types of bottom pairing D-men clear the crease, stick up for teammates, and are tough to play against in a playoff series. And they're bone-fide tough guys/enforcers. Also, these kinds of players don't cost a lot of money.

Agreed. We missed out on Jim Vandermeer. He signed a one-year deal with Vancouver. I don't think it was more than $600,000. Might have been $550,000.

    Sean O'Donnell Announces Retirement

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/16/sean-odonnell-announces-retirement/ One of my favorites and one of the classiest players out there. 1,224 total games played, plus 106 playoff games. He had a long career for a rugged shutdown defenseman. Won the Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007. True class act. Congrats on a great career and best of luck down the road, Sean!

Nope, especially not NHL tickets. The person below me cries when they're really excited/happy.

Detroit Red Wings Impact Players: Jonathan Ericsson

I agree with Crymson. He's got all the tools. Hopefully he can kick his game up a notch this year. He could really be a force on the blueline if he used his size more often.

TooToo - the lovable little Tasmanian Devil

Tootoo only fought 5 times last season because Nashville had other guys around him, like Brian McGrattan. He'll be the main guy here in Detroit, so he'll definitely fight more than 5 times this year.

I'm with you, Kip. However, I'm sure we're the minority in this case.

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

It'd be fun to watch, no doubt. New Jersey is desperately looking for offense. I think they'd pull the trigger on a deal like that. Would it be worth it for us? Volchenkov is only 30, so he's got a few solid years left in him. Also, he's a Russian native, so Datsyuk could feel a little more at home.

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

It would definitely be something to consider. I've always liked what Volchenkov brings to the table. He's one of the most physical defensemen in the league. Blocks shots. Kills penalties. What's not to like?

Mark Fistric traded to the Oilers

    They'll look something along the lines of this to begin the season: Hall-Nugent Hopkins-Eberle Yakupov-Gagner-Hemsky R.Smyth-Horcoff-Hartikainen Eager-Belanger-Petrell Hordichuk/Jones (On IR) Smid-Petry N.Schultz-J.Schultz Whitney-Fistric Peckham/Potter

Agreed. One of those players you hate to play against, but you'd love on your team. He'll provide the 4th line with some snarl and physicality. He's not big, but he's a decent fighter, too.

    Training Camp

Some updates: -Colin White is in St. Louis for the Blues' training camp after signing a tryout contract. -Jim Vandermeer has signed a one year deal with Vancouver. -Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond (PL3) has signed a one year, two-way contract with Anaheim.

Alexei Kovalev-Florida Brad Winchester-Calgary Jay Pandolfo-Boston Marek Svatos-Florida Mathieu Darche-New Jersey Mike Knuble-Detroit (Obviously) Steve McCarthy-Calgary The following are unsigned free agents that aren't (to the best of my knowledge) attending any training camps. Jason Arnott Jim Vandermeer Chris Campoli Tom Kostopoulos Marty Turco Brian Rolston Brendan Morrison Darryl Boyce Radek Dvorak Marco Sturm Daymond Langkow Dominic Moore Kent Huskins Colin White **Ex-Wing watch: Mike Commodore will be at Montreal's training camp. He's played with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL this season. Any additions to these lists would be great.

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

I really like idea of bringing Dmitry Kulikov to Detroit. He's only 22 years old. I haven't watched enough of him to really say how defensively sound he is. Definitely has some offensive upside. 28 points in 58 games last year. On top of all that, his presence may make Datsyuk feel a little more at home, since Kulikov is Russian.
