Players That Never Played in Detroit

Bure was unbelievable. One enforcer I always wanted in Detroit was Scott Parker. I wish Mark Recchi played here, too.

    The person below me game...

Not really. It takes a lot to really annoy me. The person below me eats at local restaurants, as opposed to nation-wide chain restaurants.

Prospects That Have Missed The Boat

I guess his future depends on how Brunner fares once there is a season to play. If Brunner is a bust, then Tatar is next in line. I could see him being traded if Brunner proves to be something worthwhile.

    Between Lockouts Quiz

Really cool quiz I found online. How many players can you name that played from 2005/06 to 2011/2012? Here is Detroit's quiz: http://www.sporcle.com/games/Andyheim/detroits-between-lockouts-players There are quizzes for several other NHL teams. The guy that is posting them seems to be adding a new team every day, so all teams should have quizzes posted soon. For the Wings, I got 61/76 on my first try. Off the top of my head. No cheating, folks

    Between Lockouts Quiz

Go to the search bar and type "between lockouts" and there are quizzes for other teams posted, as well. Pretty fun stuff. Just took Anaheim's quiz. 70/132

Prospects That Have Missed The Boat

Nyquist is having a good year in Grand Rapids. Tatar has had respectable numbers. I'm not sure where Tatar fits, either. It'll be interesting to see how Andersson and Ferraro pan out. Any predictions on Mitch Callahan? I don't think he'll be much more than a 4th liner.

    Every player a UFA?

While Zetterberg's offensive production has been declining, he is a part of our core. He is solid defensively. I'd definitely have him back. He can still put up respectable numbers. I believe he re-signed here for a bit of a discount a few years back. If I'm the GM of the Detroit Red Wings, Henrik Zetterberg is coming back here. He's shown devotion to the team, and the favor needs to be returned. Again, this whole "All players are UFAs" deal is all hypothetical, but I'd have Z back, despite his declining production. I'd take the following back here: Pavel Datsyuk Henrik Zetterberg Valtteri Filppula Darren Helm Jordin Tootoo Niklas Kronwall Brendan Smith I wouldn't mind Ian White and Drew Miller back either.

    Every player a UFA?

It won't happen. If for some wild reason it did, this is the Detroit Red Wings team I want: Benn-Datsyuk-Zetterberg Clowe-Filppula-Clarkson Glencross-Helm-Neil Beleskey-Chipchura-Tootoo -McGrattan Girardi-Enstrom Kronwall-White Bickel-Smith Howard Biron

    Between Lockouts Quiz

The biggest name I missed was Chris Chelios Also forgot Modano, too. I just took Calgary's quiz: 62/117

    Cam Barker Released

He's really fallen off. From what I saw, he looked mediocre at best in Texas.

    Why no youth injecton

Hopefully Nyquist pans out, and Brunner's impact can't really be predicted. He may be a diamond in the rough, he may be a bust. But yes, I think we need some muscle in the top 6. Isn't Ryane Clowe a UFA next summer? Jordin Tootoo adds some identity to our 4th line. I'm skeptical as to how effective Bertuzzi, Cleary, and Samuelsson will be next season. Which is why I still disagree with Ken signing Bertuzzi and Samuelsson to two-year deals.

    Why no youth injecton

So, because I say Kenny likes his soft 4th liners and call the 2005/06 team one of the softest ever, that means I believe that there hasn't been any yough players since the lockout? Gotcha. I asked you to name tough players since the lockout because you assured me that for every Leino I could mention, you could mention a Dallas Drake. So I asked you. Problem?Call BS all you want, I don't understand how you think I honestly believe that Detroit hasn't had any tough players since the lockout. Soft guys like Emmerton have played longer than May and Downey. That is my issue. If they're so plentily available, why doesn't Ken bring in younger guys that will be a constant for multiple years?

Now you're putting words in my mouth. I never said Detroit hasn't used gritty players under Holland. Good luck finding a quote of me saying that. I don't want goons that take dumb penalties on this team. Again, good luck finding a quote of me saying that. I used post-lockout because it seems to me, since the lockout, that Ken has been reluctant to keep scrappy guys around. I (like many folks on here) loved Brad May and Aaron Downey in their short tenures here. There's no denying we had incredibly well-rounded teams under Holland before the lockout. I like the acquisition of Jordin Tootoo. Finally we'll have a guy that can put up some points, play physical, and fight. Ever wonder why I don't harp on guys like Drew Miller, who don't play physical? He serves a purpose. He's a solid part of our penalty killing unit. Guys like Emmerton are expendable. He's quick. Okay, well he doesn't play physical, doesn't kill penalties, and isn't particularly valuable offensively.

Holland uses tough guys just as much as anyone else in the league? Really? Which is why we had arguably the softest NHL team of all time in 2005/2006. Lots of grit on that team. Same with 2006/2007. You're saying for every soft player Ken employs, there's a tough guy? Jiri Hudler-409 GP Robert Lang-159 GP Jason Williams-455 GP Ville Leino-55 GP Johan Franzen-472 GP Brett Lebda-326 GP These guys played the majority, if not, all of their games with Detroit post-lockout. In addition to the guys I mentioned that played less. So, name some other tough guys Ken has played in the post-lockout era. I'm happy we got Tootoo. However, claiming Ken plays tough guys just as much as anyone else is laughable.

No, I mean like Mark Mowers, Josh Langfeld, Cory Emmerton, Mark Hartigan, Mattias Ritola, and Kyle Calder.

Coming from the queen of bad arguments. Its okay, Cory. You probably won't get traded, anyway. Kenny loves his soft 4th liners. Don't expect to play in front of Tootoo, though.

I should've listed the extra forwards. Yeah, I think Brunner will see some time as an experiment with Zetterberg. Obviously, at least one of Mursak, Miller, Emmerton, and Eaves has to go. We simply have too many forwards right now. But yes, I see a lot of alternating going on, as well. I'm not at all confident we're gonna see hockey this year, however.

You're finally catching on. How about we compare these 4th line centers: Kyle Chipchura-16 points in 53 games. Physical, but very disciplined. Cory Emmerton-10 points 71 games. As said before, he's fast, but he isn't physical at all and doesn't provide a whole hell of a lot offensively. Not sure what it would take for Phoenix to send him here, but it needs to happen.
  19. Bring Back The Bruise Bros

    Linus Omark

I don't know if I can handle another soft, underachieving forward. If it was all up to me, this is what we would look like: Tanguay-Kessel-Huselius Leino-Bouchard-Hudler Tlusty-Miettinen-Kulemin Wellwood-Emmerton-Dvorak Corvo-Kaberle Martin-Bouwmeester Lebda-Kuba

    Why no youth injecton

You're just derailing every thread you possibly can at this point. Emmerton is the most expendable. I'd like to see him traded for a legitimate 4th line center. Kyle Chipchura comes to mind.

    Why no youth injecton

    Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Franzen Nyquist-Filppula-Samuelsson Cleary-Helm-Bertuzzi Miller-Abdelkader-Tootoo Kronwall-White Quincey-Smith Ericsson-Colaiacovo I'd rather see Abdelkader at the wing.

Nope. The person below me uses organic personal care products (Deodorant, lotion, shampoo, etc.)

13 pro teams running out of fans

Good luck getting people to NHL games in Dallas, Columbus, Florida, and Phoenix following the 189th lockout in 20 years. The only places that won't see any legitimate decrease in attendance will be the Canadian markets and NYR. I think Detroit will have a hard time getting 20,000+ back into the Joe consistently after all this horse s***.

Has your opinion of kenny changed?

A 4th line of Williams-Emmerton-Wellwood would be great. Nevermind physical play and scrappiness on our 4th line, at least we'll be quick!
  25. Bring Back The Bruise Bros

Has your opinion of kenny changed?

*Jordin Tootoo-30 points in 77 games. Hits like a truck. Solid fighter. *Justin Abdelkader-22 points in 81 games. Plays fairly physical. Fights, although he's not good at it. *Drew Miller-25 points in 80 games. Not very physical, but he's a big part of our PK unit. *Cory Emmerton-10 points in 71 games. Pretty fast, but not physical at all. Hmm. Who should go?
