Yzerman asks Pavel Kubina to Provide list of teams

I've heard L.A. and Toronto are gunning for Malone, but I wouldn't mind seeing him in the Winged Wheel. He's a big, physical guy with a nose for the net. I'd be gunning for Steve Downie right now if I knew Tampa was shopping guys around, which could very well be the case, with Moore being shipped out for picks. Seems St. Louis, Levacalier, and Stamkos may be the only untouchables. Then again, I'm no Tampa Bay Lightning insider. Pass on Kubina. Sure, he's big, but he turns 35 in April, and if we acquire him, that tells me he could be Stuart's replacement for next season. This team needs to get younger.

Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?

What about the 2007 Anaheim Ducks? I'm not saying the guy is the best GM in the league, but at least give him credit where credit is due. When I look at the Maple Leafs, they don't look like a Brian Burke team. Nikolai Kulemin, Mikhail Grabovski, and Cody Franson aren't players I associate with a team run by Burke. Burke's teams are notoriously one of the more physically aggressive teams, which this team is not. Granted, Teemu Selanne and Andy McDonald weren't running around hitting everything in 2007, so not every player played an in-your-face style. In 2007, Burke's top 6 guys could also play a physical game, as well. Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Dustin Penner all played a great all-around game. Their bottom 6 was filled with scrappy guys who could play a regular shift. Travis Moen, Brad May, Shawn Thornton, and Sammy Pahlsson hit everything in sight. George Parros wasn't dressed a lot, but he was inserted into the lineup when the coaching staff felt they could use him. To me, Burke isn't done remodeling this team. They lack the team toughness the Ducks from a few years ago had. Outside of Mike Brown, this Leafs team isn't awfully physically intimidating.

Do Maple Leaf fans deserve better?

Toronto has dropped 4 in a row. I think Burke intends to beef up the team a little more. These Leafs are not a Brian Burke calibre team. I've heard Grabovski, Kulemin, Franson, and MacArthur as potential trade bait. We all know he isn't shy about making trades. What do you guys Toronto to do at the deadline? Any specific targets Burke is looking at? There are a few Leafs experts on here.

    2/14 GDT : Stars 1 at Red Wings 3

No doubt we can win at home, we need to play consistent on the road. I think in order to ensure the Cup as ours, a minor change or two will help. Things tend to look real good in the regular season around here, hopefully we can step it up in the playoffs 21 in a row

    The Abdelkader hate

Abdelkader is most effective when he plays like he has lately. I wasn't impressed with his performance in the playoffs last year, though. Nobody is expecting him to put up a point per game, but in order to go deep in the playoffs, your role players need to play a hard-nosed game, while chipping in offensively, on occasion. Additionally, they need to play a disciplined game, which Abby was guilty of not doing last year. As far as Miller goes, I had my doubts there for a while, but he has really developed into a decent all-around bottom 6 player. No, he isn't very physical, but he has a great sense for the game. The puck has really seemed to find him in the right place lately. Ken would be an idiot to get rid of him with the way he has been playing lately. I'd still like to see us beef up a little more for the playoff run. I have a feeling Detroit won't be the only team looking at Travis Moen, though. San Jose needs to bulk up, same with Vancouver. The Canucks may not need to look for outside help, though. If Byron Bitz and/or Mike Duco can prove they can play a solid hard-nosed role, the Canucks could be pretty quiet at the deadline.

    2/12 GDT : Flyers 3 at Red Wings 4

I wonder if Commodore gets the nod tonight. I don't know if Philly will dress Rinaldo and Sestito, but someone is gonna be out there causing trouble. Abdelkader needs to continue to play aggressively, especially against a team like the Flyers. The Flyers have a mediocre penalty kill, so hopefully we can get the puck down low, keep our feet moving, and draw some penalties. Throw everything at the net, Philly is 23rd in the league in goals against/game. Make it 20 in a row at the Joe! LGW

    Congratulations Tomas Holmstrom

Congrats, Homer! A Wing for life. I don't care what anyone says, this guy is the definition of what you want every player on your team to be like. Complete warrior.

Scott Gomez scores a goal the same night Max Lapierre does decent in a fight. If John Scott scores a goal tomorrow night, the world will end.

    Red Wings Alumni lineup

It would be awesome to see Shanahan and Yzerman, but it seems to good to be true. Yzerman is Tampa's GM and Shanny hands out s***ty suspensions. I don't know if they'd actually be allowed to. I wish Gordie could get out there one more time Ideally, I want to see: Shanahan-Yzerman-Fedorov Redmond-Larionov-Ciccarelli Maltby-Draper-McCarty Kocur-Lapointe-Gallant Coffey-Murphy Fischer-Dandenault ?-? Osgood Hasek I wonder what Toronto will look like? At the minimum, gotta have the following: Sundin Gilmour Domi Clark Corson Tucker Roberts Wish Belak and Probie were around

What the F has gotten into these wings?

Abdelkader needs to play like he has recently, all the time. He's been very effective in finishing his checks and stirring everything up. Wasn't a fan of him going after Jones for the clean hit, though. Someone needs to just pound on Ben Eager. He's definitely one of the worst fighters in the league. He's a major spotpicker, and I was really looking forward to one of our guys going after him. When he fought Commodore, he got him down, and grabbed onto the ref, ending the fight. I think the rumor may be somewhat true that Ken is looking to get meaner, because we've been playing physical since the break. I'm looking forward to see who we pick up at the deadline. Detroit, Vancouver, and San Jose all should be looking to get a little meaner up front at the deadline. Commie should get a haircut before they play Philly

2/8 GDT: Oilers 2 at Red Wings 4

I think Commodore did alright against Jackman, and Eager got him down and clung to the ref before he could get back up to continue. Abby got smoked against Jones tonight, but smoked Yapierre, so I don't really think we've looked that bad, if you look at how we do in fights. Definitely not great, but decent.

    Scott Gomez

http://montreal.openfile.ca/blog/curator-blog/curated-news/2012/habs-scott-gomez-still-scoreless-one-year-drought-mark-approache It's been almost a year since Scott Gomez scored a goal. He last scored on February 5, 2011. He's got 5 points in 17 games this season. Can't believe he continues to make $7.5 million per year. If he plays 40 games this year, that equates to $187,500 per game, if my math is correct. No chance anyone will take him with that contract in a trade. What is Montreal supposed to do in a situation like this? And do you guys think he is the most overpaid/overrated player of all time?

Say what you want about Cleary, but he really shows up on the road. Hudler continues to play solid hockey. Good to see us start out 2-0 on the road following the All Star break. Miller is really developing into a solid 4th liner. Made up for his mistake. Bertuzzi and Abdelkader are most productive when they play the way they did tonight. No floating, they always made something happen out there every shift. Good to see Abby ditch the visor in his fight, Yapierre is one of the NHL's premier punching bags. Ballard typically picks on guys he knows won't fight back, and when faced with someone his own size, he hides behind his visor and eats a few from Bert before falling. Also, Canucks fans are so damn annoying. Every time a Canuck fell, they cried for a penalty. Seems they fail to realize this is hockey, not soccer. Bunch of whine asses just like the team they root for. Happy Birthday to Bert. Good road game. That, my friends, was Red Wings hockey.
